This was my first time trying this place with my bestie and I was so super excited. I had the Dave's #4, which is the tender, juicy crispy chicken slider on a potato roll combo w/cheese and w/no spice (I don't like spicy food), crunchy hot crinkle cut fries, a nice pile of chilled pickles and their tasty Dave's sauce and a packet of honey. The sandwich was really good, and the food came out hot. Dave's has flavors ranging from No Spice to Reaper. So, whether you are there for the spice or there for the chicken, then there are options for you. The chicken is served in two ways, a slider or a tender, with my personal favorite being the slider. If you're not sure which one to choose from, order the number three to get one tender and one slider with a side of fries. This place is very spacious huge and looks beautiful. Service was good and the guy working the register kept the line moving pretty well. We ate in. First time there based off our son's recommendation after he and his friends visited. I thought the slider was awesome! The slaw and sauce is what made it awesome. The chicken is nice and juicy and a good thick cut of breast. The only thing I didn't highly approve of was the chicken is coated in what seemed like chili powder. The fries were really good and nice and hot. Definitely would go back again! Honestly, I can't believe someone would actually come on social media and give a poor review in a new restaurant the first day of opening! It really says a lot about todays society. My daughter and I ate here for their soft opening and yes there were some inconsistencies and opportunities for improvement but it was the first day my goodness! The young people here were working extremely hard to get it done, service was overwhelmed by tons of people all eagerly anticipating the opening. This would be difficult for any new restaurant. Have a heart and support the effort. Why try to punish the effort. It will get better and settle down when business normalizes. They went out of their way to service the public with lots of staff, efforts in every way to keep organized and safe for their customers, and never once was there any efforts not in support of a good experience knowing it will get better with experience and support. Don't be so cruel and show some empathy for the situation. Service was excellent based on the soft opening first day and put all customers first. Not sure why this has a low rating - we had a pretty good experience here. Decent seating for a chain restaurant, relaxed environment, helpful service and some good chicken. We got the slider and tender combos which had one of each. I got the medium level spice which was a bit on the milder side (will do hot next time). Wife and I were always passing Dave's Hot Chicken as it was being built on the old Pizza Hut space on Route 30 here in York. The hype and line of customers lined up were impressive when they did open, so we decided to try them when the lines died down. Me and wife decided to give Dave's Hot Chicken an honest try and see if the food measured up to the hype. We purchased three dinners to take out on August 28 2023. Lot was sparce of cars and the drive thru was somewhat confusing to get into as it was cordoned off, only access was from the back side. Outside staff was good, and the gal at the window was pleasant with a kind hello. The line was only one car ahead of us, and we got our meal a few minutes of waiting. After paying for the three meals, thats when the sticker shock hit. Nearly $45.00 for three small meals with fries and no drinks. Holy Crap that's a wallet cramping hit right there. And online there were no prices listed, so I should have noted that. When we got home, our adult daughter joined us to eat. My wife liked everything, and said the medium heat was a good bit stronger than what she was used to. Daughter also said the medium heat was too much for her and she had to stop eating, and the chicken was absolutely slathered in dry rub. My own dinner was poor. The fries was in a small paper baskit, and nearly cold but somehow had some crunch. I had gotten two sliders, and the sandwiches were horrible. the bottom buns were completely sogged from the Dave's slaw, and barely held the long chicken slabs in the bun. I had ordered the No Spice as im a wimp when it comes to spicy food. After somehow trying to get the chicken somewhat alligned in the bun I took a bite. There was absolutely No taste at all. No meat taste or juiciness, nothing. And when I did take the bite, I couldn't separate the bite from the sandwich. Even slathering the chicken in the Dave's sauce couldn't make the meal palatable. WTH? That slabs of chicken used was so long, but no where wide enough to be called a slider, not including the bottom buns which was basically reduced to a moisture logged base. And the meat was so overcooked, it was indeed rubbery. it mustve took me close to fifteen minutes trying to salvage the meal, but sadly it failed. I don't like leaving bad reviews, but this had to be written. I LOVE going to new places and trying the food, but I just cannot try to swing a good review when one food place makes a meal so poorly for how much it cost. Sad to say, but Dave's Hot Chicken was an honest try, but a new low review from myself, nearly tying it with Cece's Pizza in Lancaster, Pa for how bad the food was, about ten years ago, but not reviewed here in Yelp. I do however have the email to Cece's still, where I suggested they stop selling pizza, close shop and open up a used car dealer, so I may post it here later. Maybe Dave's Hot Chicken can take a kind suggestion and try a new business model in selling used cars instead. The only redeeming thing were the workers there who were very pleasant to us as they got our order ready. Chik-Fil-A and Wing Stop across Route 30 shouldn't need to worry about competition from Daves Hot Chicken. My apologies for such a poor review, but honesty is the best remedy here. 12:15 on Tuesday. No line at all. Not knowing what do expected. I found the menu with few options. So I ordered number 1# 2 large chicken tenders and fries. Plus a coke. They were very friendly and helpful with my order experience. In came out very fast and you could tell it was hot and fresh. What shock me was the price. Just over $15.00. ( very expensive) The flavor was Very good. Not $ 15.00 worth . There is not a chicken tender meal anywhere in fast food that is worth that. At least in any area i deal with. Decided to give Dave's hot chicken another try on the whim since I was in the area and really glad I did. I ordered a number 1 which I believe included 2 strips, but when I got home I was pleasantly surprised to find an extra. The size of the strips were also much larger than my original experience. This time I went around dinner time as opposed to near closing time before, so perhaps better to go earlier. I ordered the hot and was also pleasantly surprised this time. UPDATED REVIEW: So, I went back to Dave's hot chicken from my last review. I learned from the last experience, so I got the medium hot, not the hot. And it was a much better experience for me. As I mentioned in my last review, I wasn't sure if it was me or the spiciness of the hot chicken. Well, it was both. The medium is much better to my taste. Now, as I mentioned in my last review, hot and above spice levels here are very hot. So, if you like spicy, then I would suggest you go hot or above. But, hot was really hot to me. I'm not sure why the reviews are bad but for day 2 opening the service was pretty quick. We got the reaper, extra hot, and no spice tenders, and the strawberry shake. The reaper was soooo spicy! I'm south Asian and we eat a lot of spicy food and this was really spicy! I couldn't handle it but it was good! Extra hot was definitely spicy too but good also! The tender sizes were huge!! Which again offers NO flavor or complimenting enhancement whatsoever. Tourist trap? Idk but nothing was worth even tasting. Typical fast-food restaurant. Food was done pretty fast, not much of a wait time. Not much variety on the menu. They basically have one kind of chicken you can get plain or on a sandwich. You choose your desired "spice" level. It comes with fries and a small container of cole slaw. Chicken is covered with a thick layer of a very seasoned coating. It was tasty; however, my stomach was upset for the next two days after eating. I do have a sensitive stomach wouldn't recommend for those with stomachs like mine. This is my husband's and my first time visiting Dave's Hot Chicken. We are huge lovers of Nashville hot chicken and often frequent a location in Lancaster that I will not mention. So we were comparing one to the other. Would love to have seen a wet sauce as the dry rub was a little too intense and thick. Now, in saying that, you would think my husband and I were at two different restaurants. I had the hot slider as well as a tender and am embarrassed to say that little beads of sweat were just all over my nose! So I loved it. The chicken was very tender and juicy. I loved the pickles, sauce, slaw so together for me it was a great combination. He doesn't really like these types of things so he ate plain chicken tender one hot and one extra hot. Now I love this man, for 25 years, but I don't know how you expect anything to not be dry if it's just a tender on a piece of bread! He did think that the coating had an odd flavor to it. The heat level was low for him because he eats a lot of very spicy foods. But you just never know until you try! So should we return, he would have to be signing that waiver for the reaper coating!
