Not what I had hopped. This was my first time visiting Dave's Hot Chicken on Costco Drive in Marana. First off the music in the restaurant was too loud. It was good music just way too loud. The counter server was very soft spoken so it was difficult to hear anything he said over the loud music. I was disappointed that their combos don't include a drink. I ordered a combo #3 that was $13.49 for a slider, a tender and a small fry. Then I had to drop another $2.19 for a small soda. That's a total $15.68 for a lunch combo meal! Way too expensive! It took me 15 minutes to get my combo. People who came in after me received their food before me. The food was marginal at best. The tender in the slider was warm and tender/soft. The side tender was dry and stringy. The seasoning they use was too salty for my taste, and wasn't very hot. Less salt and more hot would have been much better. The fries were warm but very dry. The restaurant was somewhat dirty, especially the front door that was encrusted with oil, grease and seasoning. And worst of all I was bothered by at least 4 flys throughout my lunch there. Overall, not impressed at all. Highly doubt I will ever return to this restaurant. read more

I'm have been waiting in the drive through for 40 minutes and still have a car in front of me that hasn't been served yet. Shut the drive through down next time. I can't get out because there are cars behind me- I'm literally trapped. What an absolute nightmare. I might actually end up being here almost an hour at this point. Huge customer service issue. And so...For some reason, although I have noticed the Dave's Hot Chicken restaurant from the road, I did not think that it would be a place that would interest me. What!?.. with all that Graffiti (that those "ruffian teenagers" are into) decorating the walls and all. But today, as I was finishing up some business from across the 6 lanes traffic on Broadway, the bright colors of Dave's Chicken caught my eye. Some might say the corpes of the chickens that were being prepared to become nuggets and strips were much like the sirens (half-women/half birds) of Greek mythology and began to beckon me. Other's, who are not idiots, would say, "Sometimes... for reasons we don't fully understand, you just say, 'WTF...I'll give this new place or new experience a try.' " I guess it doesn't really matter what it was that motivated me to go there,...I'm just glad that I went. So now that I sampled Dave's....Here, in no particular order, are my reasons why the place is worth a shot. Reason 1. The chicken was *fire! (*that's how kids that spray graffiti describe something that is good...like, really good.) *No cap, (more groovy talk--this time it means something like, "I'm not exaggerating--or it means I'm not going to put a bullet in you ). Anyway, no cap, the chicken is juicy. it's flavorful, and it's rolled in just the right combinations of spices to make it... dope. Reason 2. The staff makes you feel very welcomed... and they make you feel appreciated... and very much cared for. For example, the front-end person who was working the cash register...let's call her, "Kayla" (because that's really her name), was exceptional. She obviously has a heart of gold and is highly skilled in the arts of interpersonal skills. As I walked in, she greeted me with the warmest of smiles and an enthusiastic, "Hello!". I returned her warm welcome, by just looking up at the menu board. (I swear, I sometimes think I am on the spectrum. Being a child of the 70's, my mom would have given me a firm, but loving swat on the butt, and then she would have told me to speak to the nice lady). When I got to the front of the line, I apologized for my lack of grace. She laughed at my self-awareness and that I recognized my lack of social skills. She told me to not worry about it. Kayla also did stuff like made sure customers were offered extra sauce and napkins (if needed), she speaks to everyone with a kind voice, she hustles, and when a little girl came up to give her order, Kayla was patient and super nice to the kid. (You know when someone is kind by the way they treat kids, wait-staff, and animals.) 3. The ambiance was pleasing. Sometimes the music in food establishments is played too loud--or they play that annoying hip hop that those kids who spray graffiti on walls like. But the beats that were dropping were dripp'n. As I noshed on the grubs I noted the graffiti themed art and was vib'ing on it all. As I dropped the mic and walked out, I knew that I would be coming back. This place is on point. read more

Ordered medium chicken tenders for takeout. Couldn't eat them right away when we got home so put the tenders and fries in our toaster oven at 300 for about 20 minutes to keep them warm. When we finally got to bite into our chicken tenders we were not disappointed. So crispy on the outside and super moist and tender on the inside. Perfectly cooked!!! I just wish they had a better tasting coleslaw. read more

Ordering: Only 6 basic things on the menu, chicken strips or chicken sliders or a combination of both. They also have large family items as well. Most come with fries, or you can sub cheese fries, coleslaw, or mac and cheese. The chicken has about 6 or 7 heat levels from mild to reaper. If ordering reaper you have to sign a waiver. We ordered a variety of heat levels from mild to reaper. This will be the only time I say this, if you like the devil himself giving you a wet sloppy kiss then the reaper is for you! This flavor is BEYOND hot. It will make your teeth bleed. The mild were good, the medium the best. I am giving a three star rating because unless you are having chicken and waffles, chicken in no way should be sweet. Then add in the Dave's sauce, which is amazing and you have more of a candy coated chicken. This is hard to say because they are just crinkle cut fries, but, they were AMAZING! Hot, salty and cheesy. They could stand a little more cheese on the cheese fries. Decent coleslaw. Plan to wait a bit as you are handed a buzzy box after ordering which means everything is made fresh and was nice and hot ( stove hot) when it arrived. Great staff, very friendly, and the establishment was clean. The price was reasonable too. This is a review from a pregnant woman point of view. My husband got the slider and tender order. I avoided to eat the buns and indulged on the chicken and cheese fries. They were very yummy and I was able to tolerate the mild spiciness. Although I will say, since becoming pregnant my body has been very sensitive to foods that have ultraprocessed ingredients and not whole foods. So after eating I felt a bit uncomfortable but no horrible reactions (like the ones I had in chikfile) . So maybe next time I crave fast food I would get just the tenders and fries and eat moderately :) read more

The place is absolutely filthy, from the front door to the bathroom. One person on duty up front, and one, maybe two, in the kitchen. Ice machine broken. Tables dirty. Fries cold. My wife and I love the chicken sandwich but only if you can get it in a reasonable amount of time. For the second time visiting the store we were told it would be a 30-t0 40 minute wait on our order. We have had this experience on multiple occasions. We said we will never go there again and yet return only to find out there is still a long wait. I guess we are gluttons for punishment. Not sure why I visit this location. Service is incredibly slow and the staff is often rude. I'm here at 9:45 at night and all of the tables are empty and dirty. Soda machine has no ice, I had to wait at the front counter for someone to notice me, and the manager offered the snarky comment that the soda comes out of the machine cold when I asked for more ice in my cup. Just visited here today after putting it off for months after they opened just to avoid the crazy traffic. I got an extra spicy slider and subbed the fries for the Mac n cheese. Really so good! I added some honey to the slider and it was perfect. I am tempted to try the reaper next but a tad hesitant. I love heat, but not looking for my mouth to be on fire for the whole day. I just think I can handle a little more heat than the extra spicy. The gentleman who took my order was extremely nice as well (wish I remembered his name). We stopped in to check out this new restaurant after a Costco trip. They had a promotion- free milkshake with a review! The chicken was awesome- definitely a great spice rub with options for heat level. We got a slider and a tender. Love the kale slaw and sauce on both. I will definitely be back for more chicken. The only thing that wasn't great was the free milkshake. I can honestly say it was the worst milkshake I've ever had; it was a runny shake base, with WAY too much chocolate sauce that was not blended well. Didn't really taste like real ice cream, but I could be wrong. Definitely stop in, but you can skip dessert and get an extra chicken tender. read more

I was so happy that a location opened up on my side of town. We absolutely loved all the decor when you walk in, and it smelled amazing. I got the two sliders with fries and a Dr Pepper, and I tried the spicy cauliflower bites as well. It is definitely a lot more food than I expected, so the one slider meal would've been a lot better for me. The cauliflower bites were crispy and delicious, and I got them with the lowest amount of spice you can, but I will definitely be getting it spicier next time. Loved this place when it first opened. Chicken is delicious.....then they continually gave me the wrong order. I visited about three weeks ago and the drive thru screen was broken and waited for about ten minutes before the came to the drive thru and told me the chicken wouldn't be ready for twenty minutes. This visit the screen is still broken and I waited another 10 minutes before they took my order. I'm trapped in the drive thru, cars in front and back , and cannot leave. Well I showed up on the WRONG day. I'm guessing this might have been the grand opening, so take that for what it's worth. What you need to know: - Max Occupancy of the restaurant per required signage is 65; at any given time today when I was there, they were at an estimated 95 - 100 inside, so good luck finding a seat. - Took 25+ min for a single chicken sandwich and fries to go. - Soda machine had no ice, another person said they ran out before I got there and no one was willing to refill it. - Meal combos don't include a drink? For the price they charge, they should. - Beware of the Reaper sandwich. Walking from my car to go in, saw a High School kid that couldn't handle the heat and vomited in front of the restaurant and down the sidewalk. I informed management and it took them over 30min before the maintenance guy went to wash it down (Yuck!). - At the rate people were coming and going, there was not a clean table or floor in the place. They had no one walking around cleaning up or wiping down tables. - They lacked extra garbage cans for the opening and with there only being two in the seating area, people ended up just leaving their trash on the tables so strangers were having to toss other peoples garbage. As for the food? Initial impressions are it was not worth the wait. I liked the pickles and fries honestly better than the chicken. Heat level was good, but the chicken sandwich was essentially a dry, skinny chicken tender on a bun. Felt like I got shorted on the chicken. I'm sure I'll go back, but not any time soon. The customer service is awesome, id be so tired from work but the warm welcome and sincere smiles from the crew always lifts my spirit up, no kidding, theyre all nice!
