The sliders are huge! The chicken was really crispy and moist. A previous poster said it is too spicy - not true at all. I know, you're not supposed to give a chain restaurant five stars- wouldn't be cool enough, I guess. There goes my little bit of street cred. But the Dave's Hot Chicken in Eugene earns it. The staff is friendly and goes the extra mile. The ambiance ... well, it is a chain. But it has some nice local nods, and it was spotless and clean inside. The noise level was a little high, but not unacceptable. And the food? Well, if you're only doing one thing, do it well. They have a very limited menu. Do you want a burger? Nope. Do you want a fish sandwich. Nothing going. They have chicken. You can get it not spicy, or call your level of spice, or get it hot. As tenders or in a slider. The slider is a bit of a misnomer- this isn't a White Castle or Krystal's slider. This is a large chunk of meat. So much so that when I got the two sliders, I was concerned I wouldn't finish it. Well, consider the concern allayed. It was so good it disappeared. My only regret was that I didn't get it spicier (as a wuss, I went for medium to start, and it wasn't quite spicy enough). The rest of the table had Mac and cheese (really good), kale slaw (excellent) and the cauliflower bites (great option!). They do one thing. They do it well. The interior was colorful and had a Mario theme at the ordering area above and they forgot my Diet Coke after I ordered. When I got my food, there was one fry bubble and I had to spit it out because it tasted funny and I thought it was a nugget. Although it was good! Crispy breaded chicken must be one of my all-time favorite foods, and I think I found a new front-runner. The chicken strips are huge, juicy, crispy, and full of flavor. We had been wanting to try this place for a little while, my guy was able to try it out before I had a chance. He tried it up in Portland, and was hooked. Then started going to this location. I ordered the mild, and they love spice, so they ordered hot, extra hot, and my son got the reaper on one of them. He had to sign a waiver. He has been known to eat some of those chips that people eat for those challenges, so I knew he could take it. He said it was hot, but he didn't think it was waiver hot to him personally, but that doesn't mean it is not waiver hot to some one else. He eats 5 stars at Thai restaurants if that gives you an idea of his spicy level. The other thing he said was that he liked the hot better, because you can actually taste the chicken more. Once you start adding more heat, it destroys the flavor. Now I really enjoyed my mild. The flavor was a savory almost sweet spice. Defiantly would go back to get some more. I will have to say I liked the strip better than the slider, not that the slider was bad, because I would eat the heck out of one if it was put in front of me right now. I let my guy try a bite of my mild, and he said there was definitely a taste difference. He liked both flavors. Mild, and hot, but prefers the hot. I am glad we have a place like this in town. So let me start with this. I'm from the south so I have 5+ other chicken places to compare this to. I also don't often give bad reviews but I just can't surpass this one. If you're from here originally or the west coast, you'll probably love it if you've never had anything else. That being said, I got no spice because I can't handle spicy. The fries were boring and the Dave's sauce just didn't have much flavor to it. Pretty much just tasted like mayonnaise. So if you're expecting it to be as good as Zaxby's, Chick-fil-a, or anywhere else...don't go. You'll just be disappointed. If you don't have anything to compare it to, you'll probably like it. A fun new place if you are a hot chicken lover! Though the menu is small and simple there is a spice level for everyone. I got the #3 combo so I could try both a tender and slider. You can mix and match spice, so I got the sandwich as mild and the tender as lite mild. I would recommend going at least mild, because anything less is just a dry rub which wasn't quite as tasty. The mild had just a nice little kick and was great in slider form. Though slider is a funny name, because it was the size of a full sandwich. The whole meal was absolutely gigantic, so I might just go for a single slider next time. Their sauce is great and fries are decent for the crinkle variety. First experience at a Dave's Hot Chicken. After all, this place is growing explosively, locations opening everywhere, so let's see what it's about! My experience with hot chicken is two great places (World Famous Hotboys and Pyre Nashville Hot Chicken)- so I came in expecting much less than either of those. Even with my lower standards the level of failure is still hard to process. First of all, I did understand that there would be a 15-20 minute wait due to staffing issues. I was fine with that after being given the warning. However, it ended up being 40 minutes to get my extra hot slider and fries; that's way too far off the estimate to be acceptable. As for the food, I hope they gave me the wrong order. I mean, the fries were nice, but the chicken was on the low end of fast food quality- tasteless- and the Wendy's ghost pepper chicken sandwich was significantly hotter.
