    Biscuits and gravy

Well, this was an interesting and unexpected experience! I am not in Arnold very often. I was looking for a place to eat. Boom! There was Dave's diner. I pulled into the parking lot and noticed the place looked a little forlorn and rundown. It is not in a very dynamic shopping area. And then there was the sign on the door warning me that they only take cash. No debit. No credit card. Well OK. I'm good with that. After going inside, I realize that the interior of the establishment agreed with the exterior! Kind of sad and needing some loving care. But then I grabbed the menu. Dave's is open 24 hours a day and you can get breakfast anytime you want it. It was about 5 PM and that got my attention. Because who doesn't want breakfast? So I ordered a breakfast bowl which contained eggs, which I ordered scrambled along with chunks of potatoes and all of the typical breakfast bowl ingredients. And then I ordered it covered with chili and cheese. Why? Because I could. And I have to say it was delicious. I loved it and will do it again if I'm ever back in Arnold. But next time I will try it covered with gravy because I also ordered a side of biscuits and gravy. Oh my! That was good gravy! So give Dave a try. Show him some love and maybe he can show some love to his building. But even if he can't go there for your own sake. It had an interesting menu and I don't think you'll be disappointed. Just don't forget to bring cash.

Sausage cheese and egg on toast and hashbrowns. Sorry about the bite out of it, but you can't leave a review unless you taste it.

Got to try place food was good. service, hard working folks with good attitudes. Food was out very fast and coffee was hot. What you want with a breakfast.

Cash only, open 24/7. Looks really unassuming but is the real deal. Great breakfast food. I didn't try the sandwiches but they looked good. Pie was decent. Place was full of regulars and the waitresses were really friendly!

At off-peak hours, I had no trouble parking right in front of the door.

I was in between work appointments nearby and needed to grab a late lunch. It was around 2 and pretty empty when I arrived. There were a couple of occupied tables with older men, regulars, while I was there. One even came in and the waitress got his drink without even asking. It feels like a place they really would get to know you if you stopped in often. But I still got great service even though I had never been in before and carried in my laptop with me. I ordered my standby at a diner. A grilled cheese and shredded hash browns. Exactly what I expected. I was told the hash browns and the fries (crinkle style) where hand peeled and cut. And that the waitresses mom and sister made the soup and cake. Nice to know they do things from scratch. The staff was friendly and even though they aren't owners, they shared that many of the people there were related...and the result was it felt like they really took pride in the place. It looks like a strip mall hole in the wall from the outside. But don't let that fool you. If you don't like dive diners then skip it. But if you do, I'm guessing the desserts and shakes are amazing. Will definitely go back. And like most diners, it's cash only. But prices are cheap so you won't need a lot of money. And they has wifi too.

Great little breakfast diner. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Good menu typical of a diner with VERY reasonable prices. I came for breakfast and had the chicken fried steak with two eggs over easy, toast and hash browns. They also have home fries if you prefer. Interestingly they chop all the potatoes fresh each morning. I asked mine to be extra crispy and they were just fabulous. The steak had a hearty country gravy that tasted divine. Everything was cooked perfectly and the service was prompt and with a smile. I'd eat here everyday if I lived close. The only reason I gave it four stars is that I just needs to be spruced up a little bit. Maybe a coat of paint, fix some chairs, new decor on the walls etc etc. really good food though.

Servers are quick to take orders and the food comes out at a good pace. They are open to customization on the menu (just be nice about it). I ordered the Posole and Biscuits and Gravy the last time I went. Previously, I've tried their tamales, sopapilla, pancakes, birds in a blanket, and Carne Adovada - all highly recommended. Still want to try their wings. I want Guy Fieri to come here and try their food... Tips: Weekend brunch lines are long, I'd recommend utilizing the Yelp waitlist when able. If you're eating in the winter, try to avoid eating by the door ... unfortunately my biscuits and gravy were a bit cold the last time I ate there because the wind kept blowing in when people were checking in at the hostess stand. But that's okay because the Posole was steaming! Tables larger than 6 are going to have a longer wait time in the winter. In nicer weather, the outdoor patio is great to enjoy a meal in. That's what you get with local diner charm! This place is definitely a special spot in St. Louis

Possibly for some on a budget to dine out because they are inexpensive compared to other breakfast places around, but the quality matches the price. The service is basically nonexistent. We walked in on a Monday morning around 11:30 and there were three tables occupied. The owner was the only one working, I'm guessing because of how he treats his staff after reading other negative reviews that all sound strikingly familiar. My friend got one egg over medium, bacon, potatoes, and a biscuit and gravy. It looked disgusting. The egg was overcooked, but she seemed to be happy with it otherwise, so I won't make any other comments on her food. I on the other hand had already had breakfast earlier in the day so I decided to take a chance on a salad. Terrible idea. I ordered the grilled chicken salad, which is supposed to come with lettuce, tomato onion, cheese, green bell peppers, and dressing. I asked for honey mustard on the side. My salad did not come out until 10 minutes after my friend's hot meal came out. When it did, it only contained lettuce, tomato, cheese, and he gave me Italian dressing on the side. I immediately tried to stop him and ask him for honey mustard instead, but he dropped it and bounced without asking if we needed anything else. He proceeded to go up to the front counter, check out all three tables consecutively, make conversation with each as they were paying, completely ignoring my friend who was waving her hand and yelling to him. He kept saying oh I'll be right over! After a good 10 minutes, he came back over and handed me a ramekin of 1000 Island and told me, "Here try this one, I think it's honey mustard." Like seriously? Where the heck did that even come from? He didn't go to the kitchen on his way to the table! I took one look and could clearly tell it was 1000 island. I asked him if I could please just have honey mustard as I had originally asked for, and a side of tomatoes and green peppers with my lettuce, chicken, and cheese. This man tried to take my plate back to the kitchen to add those things instead of just bringing me a side dish. Make it make sense. At this point there are fruit flies buzzing all around our table because we're the only table now. My sad salad has been sitting there for 10 minutes and now you want to take my plate back? Anyway, my friend likes the place so I shut up and ate my unappetizing salad. This place is such a disappointment. I hadn't been in a while so, I had high hopes that it might have improved since I was last there. Honestly, I'm pretty sure it's declined. I wouldn't recommend it.

The only real warmth we encountered came from the female host; the rest of the staff delivered service that hovered somewhere between disinterested and "we're doing you a favor by being here." We kicked things off with the fried deviled eggs, which arrived neither fried nor particularly deviled -- just cold little reminders that hope is fleeting. Cocktails landed squarely in "General Public" territory. My Squatty Potty showed up lukewarm, like it had been loitering at the bar contemplating its life choices instead of making it to the table piping hot. A chicken Caesar salad was perfectly fine... if you enjoy playing hide-and-seek with the chicken. The breakfast burger came on an English muffin with what might be the most emotionally unavailable portion of hash brown casserole I've ever seen -- tiny, distant, and gone too soon. Then there's the Scream Burger. Marketed as ghost-pepper spicy, priced like it's the main event, and delivered with all the heat of a polite Midwestern handshake. Dry, bland, and somehow bold enough to charge me an extra dollar for more mayo -- because nothing says "premium burger experience" like a condiment upcharge to make it edible. My husband's Pork Pountine? Imagine fries sprinkled with a few bacon bits like confetti at a party nobody wanted to attend. We came in excited because Eat Crow in Soulard sets the bar high. Unfortunately, Crows Nest feels like it's cooking for someone driving in from Chesterfield who asked the kitchen to "tone it down." If you're craving the real deal, do yourself a favor: go to Soulard. This nest still needs a lot more feathers. And to the influencers calling this place "amazing" -- do better.
