Today was no exception- I had several electrical issues and one was complicated with an unusual set up for my pond aerators that had been installed 10 years ago by another contractor. We had a very disappointing experience with Dave Jones related to service calls for a boiler. The house on the UW-Madison campus where young women live. It is managed by alumni, who volunteer their time. In the fall, we attempted to schedule a preventative service inspection before heat was needed throughout the building. That request was pushed off by their team until January, which eliminated the opportunity to proactively address any issues. When a service call was eventually scheduled, a technician arrived on the wrong day without any advance notice. We were not given the standard 24-hour notice, which created unnecessary disruption for our residents. Legally we are required to provide this for non-emergencies. Additionally, the technician went upstairs where residents were showering with no alumni escort or supervision. It made for an uncomfortable situation for our residents, which could have been avoided with the scheduled time or advance communication. More concerning was a later situation when our residents were left without heat. A service technician came out and called to explain what was wrong but did not provide a solution, plan, or timeline. When we called back around 2:45 p.m. to follow up, we learned that everyone had already left for the day. The receptionist had no information about parts, next steps, or who to contact, and could not reach anyone. The following day was a holiday, so there was still no communication or plan in place--and no heat. After another full day without communication, we contacted a different provider who was able to diagnose and fix the issue the same day, restoring heat for our residents. Once that vendor was lined up, we notified Dave Jones that their assistance was no longer needed. The only timely element they were able to do was send us a bill for diagnosing a problem but leaving us without follow up support or repair. Given the lack of communication, coordination, and urgency, we had a very bad experience, especially for a no-heat situation. We cannot recommend Dave Jones for boiler service and would encourage people to avoid this vendor and seek out others when similar service is necessary. read more

So I just had a clogged pipe resolved by Dave Jones. When I called on Monday, they said the tech would be here Tuesday at 1pm and he was in my kitchen at 1:05pm with an electric drain cleaner. The hand snake I had wasn't working. So, the tech, Mike, was very courteous and respectful of my house. He evaluated the problem and explained to me what he was going to do. In a short time, the drain was resolved and we were good to go. The price was very reasonable and I would recommend Dave Jones again, as I did in January, for my new water heater. Our 14 year old water conditioning system had been running and wasting water. Two days after I called Dave Jones, two wonderful employees came out to diagnose the problem. I had been doing my own research and had a lot of questions...which they patiently answered. We decided to have the seal kit replaced (piston, too.) Although, we were made aware that a full replacement of the entire water conditioning softener system might be a better option, as our current model only lasts 15 years. We decided to go with the seals being replaced. This cost over $500.00. After doing research, I believe the parts and/or kits are extremely overpriced. However, this charge did include time and labor. Matt and Cory were professional and knowledgeable. I would HIGHLY recommend Dave Jones-Plumbing. And, Give Cory and Matt a raise. :) read more

One star, just because the service person was on time and friendly. We put an InteliFlow in our brand new home, but it stopped working after 15 months. They came out to check why the part they installed no longer worked. And the response was "it is not working, needs to be replaced." No longer under warranty, a new part is $700, not including labor. Two visits allow them to charge more than one, so of course, the part needs to be ordered, and they need to come back. Obviously, the quality of the materials they are using is low, and the value is low. I do not recommend. read more

Had them come by to replace filters on our reverse osmosis system. Rather than replacing all of the filters, they replaced one of them and gave us a tutorial on how to do the rest ourselves and then left. The bill was over $300. Would not use them for reverse osmosis maintenance, unless you want a tutorial already available on YouTube. read more

Absolute Disaster. Three Strikes and You're Out....$470 We were redoing our deck and scheduled a plumber to run a gas line to the grill while our deck boards were ripped up. I got a call the morning of the day they were supposed to come that they had to reschedule. I took it upon myself to purchase the right size drill bit and get the stubbed line to the outer joist to prevent a plumber from having to crawl under our deck. Rescheduled for the following week. Then, the electrician came a couple days later to put an additional outlet in for our smoker and was not prepared for the job, didn't have the right parts, and I ended up with a giant ugly box on the exterior of my house. No attempt to put it in the wall like the old one, instead just right on top of the siding. Who would think this looks remotely okay. That was two strikes. I cancelled the plumber appointment because I was furious. Now the kicker! I paid $170 for this ugly piece of crap and when I called to cancel the rest of the work on the gas line and express my disappointment. The receptionist simply told me "oh okay, I will go ahead and remove you from the schedule" absolutely NO apology or any kind of attempt to make it right. Now I'm out $170 from this outlet install and get the pleasure of calling to have this issue fixed and I still don't have my gas line. To my surprise, someone else followed up with me the next day and we agreed he would come out two days later to figure out how to remediate the issue. He came out said he was going to investigate solutions and left. I still haven't heard back. It's been 8 days. Strike three. I've since had another electrical come out to estimate fixing the eyesore Dave Jones created and they want $300. This one outlet is now costing me $470. Avoid these fools at all costs, don't waste your time unless you like wasting money on shoddy work. Update: In the interest of providing a complete and accurate review. This morning I got an email from them. They saw this review and are refunding for the outlet fiasco and the work they did to stub out the gas initially. read more

I've used Dave Jones in the past. The workers have been professional and on time. Today I had an appt at 11 for plumbing. At 1130 I called to see if they were still planning to service my appt. Left a message. No call back. 1245 plumber did show up. No apology for being nearly 2 hours late. I was charged full price for the service call and for the repair which took less than 20 minutes. The return of phone calls has been an issue each time I've tried to schedule service. Not sure I'll use them again - the price for their customer service isn't a good value for me. read more

Our fan went out on our furnace so I sent them a message through their web portal (it was after hours and I didn't think it needed an emergency visit).  Julie at DJ promptly replied back the next morning and set up a service call that day.  They were pleasant, respectful, clean, and quickly solved the issue (fan controller module).  Price was reasonable especially given the speed at which they were able to address the problem. I kind of have been using Dave Jones for a long time. But I find in the time I've been here they don't return phone calls and they're not responsive and I think they're just too busy. Or they don't care! But if I had a business, and I would want more business I would either let people know that they're too busy and can't offer their service for when they can offer their service. Anyway, I tried a new place that's been around here for like 36 years and it's on the north east side of Mendota. It's better service than best if that can even be. I left a message. They called me right back that night after their hours of business and because our air conditioning went down on that hot hot day in August. They had someone coming out the next morning at 8 AM. They were on time, they gave me a quote and since my air conditioner that was here was like 36 or 32 years old. It was time to replace it. They were back the very next morning at 8 AM sharp and they put it in. We're done by 12 noon. Professional and responsive. I can't give out the name but you can look it up. read more

So.. I called 3 days ago to have Dave Jones change our filters on a roof top unit. I spoke to Katie she said no problem.. They would have somebody out there friday. At 9:30am. So here comes Friday.. 9:30 passes.. I'm thinking. Oh they are just a little late.. Finally at 10:15am I called.. The message says they are at a company meeting.. ( aka golf outing.. Lmao).. I hit the button for emergency.. Another woman answers.. Oh our records say that Katie called you back and left a message yesterday. Our commercial tech only has a 6 foot ladder.. WTF..!!! Disappointing billing practices. Plumber did less than 10 minute assessment and chat about replacing our existing water heater. Received a bill for $102 citing minimum service charge fee of .5 hours of work. So an hourly rate of $204...just be aware of how this works I should have asked first before hand. read more

Very unreasonable billing practices. My property manager used them to look at my HVAC system that was not working for my tenant. They came to my home and completed 1.5 hours of work, and charged $400+ total - $300+ of which was just the labor alone. They choose to justify it with minimum trip charges and additional expenses if it's a condo? Not happy with them at all. I have requested my property manager to not use them in the future again. read more

I've had Dave Jones do work on my home several times. I've been impressed with the quality/speed of service, affordable and honest pricing, easy billing, and commitment to their guarantee. I have an older home that's needed alot of attention in the past few years. They did the plumbing for a bathroom remodel in my home 2 years ago and I'm very happy with that. The toilet flange cracked about 6 months after their 1 year guarantee but they still came out and replaced it for free. I also had them replace a water heater and water softener in the past couple years and I was impressed with the great prices and friendly service. Just this week I had them clear roots from the main sewer line and again I was impressed with how affordable things were. read more

We have not had heat in our children's bedrooms since 12/18 which is the same day an employee from Dave Jones assessed our heating issue. They quoted us a 7 day leadtime for receipt of a part to correct the issue. It is now 12/30 and have heard nothing from them. We did follow-up over the course of the last two weeks as well. I guess a home in Wisconsin in the middle of winter without heat is not a priority. read more

We called Dave Jones in as a second opinion on an AC unit, which would fail every twelve months. The tech knew the product line and knew of the factory recall on the issue which caused the failure. He made arrangements with the factory and distributor for the repair. In my experience, an equipment repair is useless unless we know and fix the cause of the failure. Dave Jones thinks the same way and got to the heart of the matter to find the solution. We could not have asked for better in all areas including skill, knowledge, resources, task completion, follow-up, and cost. Just wow. Super! We could not be more satisfied. read more

Our furnace exhaust fan went out at 4am in the middle of January. The entire unit was shaking and vibrating the house and the housing for the fan was smoking it was getting so hot. I shut down the power to the furnace and called Dave Jones at 7am when they opened. I was able to give them the serial number and model number of the furnace and they showed up at 1:30pm that day with the right fan model and had it installed within 45 min. The furnace is working fine and we've had no problems with it since. Highly recommend Dave Jones, especially if you need work done ASAP. read more

hit and miss - first encounter went great - 2nd encounter not as good. wanted a tub plug replaced and person said they would have to go thru wall - i also have a uni style tub shower that would of been destroyed. i told him i have had plugs replaced before w/o drilling thru a wall. he showed me how to operate plug so i could clean it. it cost $107 for him to show me how to remove plug in and the sink - he started cleaning the tub drain and i told him stop i would do it - the sink was clear. so in essence i paid 107 for him to show me how to operate plug for cleaning. good to know - i appreciated that. what freaked me is the thought of replacing a tub/show and doing plaster work to install a plug. anyway depends on who you get - i think it is a good company overall. the first plumber i had seemed more knowledgeable and installed a sink faucet. sometimes you need a plumbing company and sometimes just one handy plumber who knows their way around. read more

My suggestion is to never take your eyes off of what they are doing. When the line between our well and house developed a leak we completely dugout the work area and prepared the site at our expense. At which time the rocks were separated from the loose soil. After the new line was installed, and we disappeared for five minutes, one employee took the bobcat and refilled the hole as fast as he possibly could with complete disregard for the rocks and soil. The result was the electrical line, which should run parallel to the well pipe, was pulled out and almost a 60 degree angle at the top of the well pipe. As well unknown plummeting of rocks on the line itself, the kicker was we were charged the full price as if they had dugout the work area themselves. We will NEVER use their services again and recommend that if anyone should choose to do so, make sure they are watched every second they are on your property! Likewise make sure the work is done properly and with any quote for service make sure you fully understand the charges. They refused to correct the electrical line and stated that if the line was not leaking there was no problem that would concern them and down playing our concerns and likewise dismissing our complaints after cashing our check. We will NEVER recommend their services to anyone....to the contrary we suggest anyone needing these types of services to look elsewhere for their own sake. read more
