The store has been here near 40 years. My friend Dena who lives across the street from Bob's...I mean Jd's always calls it Bob's, so be patient with me. This store first came to my attention when it was in the news a lot, after the Price-rite chain came to town. But that is ancient history now. Anyway, after a short visit with my friend, I hobbled across the street to...Jd's. Yes, very friendly people there, and helpful. There was not a large selection of fresh produce, but what there was looked fresh and the prices were very compatible with my shopping experiences earlier this week. I bought a beautiful apple for 54¢. Dena always brags on their meats. There were some very nice cuts of beef, some sausages, some pork chops, wings, also some salads. I'm not a big beef eater, so I asked if they had ground pork. The woman said we can grind it for you. I said I'd like a pound. It was nicely wrapped in white butcher paper. The freezer section had a lot of frozen meats, things that had been prepared into patties and meatballs, all ready to take home to your freezer. On my way to the checkout, I spied a bag of dry large lima beans, so I grabbed that, too. I've been making a lot of soups lately. On the downside, the store is small and parking is street only. The upside there is that they do deliver, citywide, I think. And there is a website. The big plus for me was the ground pork I bought there. When I got home, I unwrapped it in order to divide into two half-pound containers for freezing. Beautiful. I have never seen such lean and good looking ground pork. At $3.82 for my package, it might have been a few cents more than the fatty ground pork I used to buy. I'll definitely go back to Jd's for that. I went back today and I was impressed with the level of customer service provided. There are quite a few selections to choose from and there appears to be something for everyone and different family sizes. I got the Big Pick 7; you choose 7 items out of 24 menu items. Today I wanted the plain chicken fingers but they were out of stock so for a $5 upcharge, I got the seasoned ones. I browsed through the market while waiting and they have a good selection of necessities. I heard they have a second location at the Broadway Market that has a slightly different selection of meet and groceries. My package broke down was as follows: 10 lb bag of chicken thighs and legs (9 portions) 5 lb bag of chicken fingers 6 lbs of bone in chicken breast (4 breasts) 5lbs of whole chicken wings (13) 3 lbs of sirloin steak (cut into apx 8 steaks) 3 lbs of T-Bone (4 steaks) 3 lbs of haddock filets

The rest of the store is hit or miss, with some things marked way up and other things right where you'd expect them, occasionally a little cheaper. Sales are solid if you check out the flyer. The quality of the meat is the main draw here for me, it is the best spot locally for that. The staff are always nice and they keep the lines moving. I cook with a lot of weird ingredients, so I can't get everything here, but I do prioritize getting my meat and a few other things here.

I was so surprised how much was in here when the store looked small but they have everything you can think of when you don't want to go to a huge grocery store for one item. They even have a lot of nice bills gear! The staff was so friendly and they have a lot of options for breakfast and lunch so there is something for everyone. Stop in here for food, snacks, cold drinks, lotto, or a last minute item you need to prep dinner but forget when grocery shopping earlier in the week. You won't be disappointed!
