My sister and I stopped in on a whim and found a warm, friendly, environment. Once they knew it was our first time the staff went out of their way to make sure we knew what the dishes were. We bought Ghaymeh (beef and lentil stew with gravy) with rice and kebabs. The kebabs were the only thing these people made fresh but everything else was made 2-3 days ago per the cashier himself. The Naan or Pita Bread wasn't freshly made but heated. Isn't a Restaurant supposed to serve your freshly made food as opposed to food made a couple of days ago while they still charge Fairfax and Tysons Corner prices? What a great food; never know this place until i drove by and turned around. It is not a big or a fancy place but they have a great chicken and lamb kabob. It taste fresh, looks fresh and smells fresh. The price is reasonable; not too cheap and not expensive at all. One downside is, no one will greet you as you walk-in and it is a turn off if this your first visit. Parking is not that bad though is not easy to get a spot front of the restaurant; but there plenty of parking at the shopping center. The whole menu has been changed and food tastes completely different now. They asked me to add a tip at the time of paying for my food at the register while ordering, which is not very professional, most restaurants don't ask you to add a tip before your food comes out. As far as persian food goes, this place is a 6/10. Decent food and serving sizes. I went with a bunch of my family so we got to order different dishes and try out a variety. The koubideh sadly was a little too dry for my taste however the chicken kabobs (ground and boneless) were both very well grilled. They screwed up our order but fixed it quickly enough and brought out the right order in a timely fashion. Not alot of dessert options, love that they offer free tea and unlimited refills. Ordered take-out online, food was ready exactly on time (not too early or too late). Polite and friendly service at the restaurant when i went to pick it up. Ordered the Kubideh, lamb and tandoori chicken -- all tasted good as did the rice and the chutneys. The kubideh and lamb were definitely better than the chicken. The chickpeas were okay -- nothing great but also nothing wrong. The only slight disappointment was the naan -- was surprised that each meal only includes 1/2 naan (they do say that in the menu but it seems odd to me). This is honestly the greatest kabob I've ever had, I've been here numerous times and I was recommended to this place by multiple coworkers, these guys have authentic homemade afghan cuisine, very flavorful food, everything I've had here ranges from the catering orders of different types of kabobs, the boneless chicken kabob and lamb chops are to die for to be honest, give it a shot and I promise you'll be coming back for more. Horrible staff! I called in for a delivery order and they recommended I use DoorDash. I placed an order with a delivery time of 415 which was an hour and a half earlier. When the order arrived I was missing most of my order. When I called in, they blamed DoorDash. I am their customer I am not DoorDash custome they work with DoorDash to provide an added service and it is their job to make sure they have the right food and the food is picked up properly. A long time favorite Kabob restaurant in the area! Very consistent food which is mildly spiced and tasty. They have lunch specials each day which are quite affordable and filling. Their Joojeh Kabob is my personal favorite. It is a small family owned restaurant and you are always greeted with a smile and fresh food. The rice is always very fluffy and the bread is not buttery or greasy as in some other similar restaurants. There are the usual options that you would find in a Kabob restaurants like the chicken, beef, lamb, etc and they all taste good. Darya Kabob is still my favorite kabob house. After trying all the kabob houses in the area I keep coming back. I will say one thing, I prefer the Persian style to any other style out there. Now back to Darya. I actually had to convince my brother-in-law that this was better than his favorite place Moby Dick. The best was made and in the end I got a free meal out of it. =) Their kubidah is so flavorful and juicy its hard not to pick this dish every time. Is always a toss up between the kubidah or the Cornish game hen. Talk about a juicy little bird. It's perfectly cooked an always juicy. I always get extra bread so I'm not going to complain like Chad =). The only thing I think they need to improve is their yogurt sauce. It's too thick for my likings, but everything else is great. There isn't too much seating, I've had to wait for a table before, but it is worth it. It's not the prettiest inside, but are you there to eat or look at pretty walls?? It's all about the food for me. So if you really want kabobs in Loudoun County head over to Sterling on route 7, look for the Giant and the McDonalds and tucked away in the back is Darya. 4.5 all the way!! read more

After reading all the good reviews I really wanted to try this place. Well, I was disappointed. I ordered the Hummus, chicken with rice and baklava. I found the food to be quite bland. The chicken cubes were dry and the rice had no flavor at all. It was pretty much just lightly salted white rice with a blob of yellow food color. Hummus wasn't too bad just a little tart for my taste. They make fresh bread which is nice, but you must eat it while it's still hot or it will turn into a rubbery texture. After reading the reviews here I decided to give this place a try. Finding this place is not too hard, it's tucked away in a plaza anchored by a Giant supermarket. Parking here can be a pain though as the lot is pretty full but spaces usually turn over quickly. Upon approaching the storefront, large boards display daily lunch specials and the prices were really low for a Persian kababi in the DC area. Inside, the place is a very simple kababi. It's more along the lines of what someone experiences at Moby Dick's, so I'll be using Moby's as a fair comparison while conducting this review. In all honesty, you can't compare this to full-service kababis like Shamshiry or Rose. I ordered a #1 (kabab koobideh with rice) and my accomplice ordered a koobideh/chicken w/ rice combo. The same dish (#1) at Moby's costs over a dollar more, so this place was turning out to be somewhat of a small bargain... that is, until I got my food. Overall, looks wise it's generally the same as Moby's. You get a chinet sized plate (here it's actually real china) with rice in the middle and kababs on the edge. However, unlike Moby's there's an absence of butter and soomagh on the rice. Although there is available soomagh on each table, there's no butter to be seen; you'll have to ask the staff for butter. The koobideh, on the whole, was not up to par with Moby's or any other kababis in the area. The kababs were thin, tasted a bit dry and was obviously overcooked. There were some small pieces I couldn't really eat as they were all charcoal and no meat. I also generally like to eat a greasy koobideh and this kabab was completely devoid of any oil. The koobideh was by no means completely inedible, but it was not as good as Moby's. The rice, as expected, was about the same quality as Moby's. The only real saving grace about this place was that the naan provided was a bit better than Moby's, not as doughy/undercooked. My accomplice's chicken kabab was a bit better than Moby's but that's not really saying much as Moby's makes some of the worst chicken kabab I've ever tasted. Quite frankly this place was a slight disappointment. Price wise, this place seemed like a deal but I really ended up sacrificing quality for only a slightly lower price. I say do this place if you're looking for a cheap chicken kabab/lunch special. But really Darya would only ideal if you live/work in the immediate area and are unwilling to travel a bit further for any of the other places. read more

After visiting this place multiple times and it living up to my memory of how good it was the time before, I was glad to see that a few others had also had such a positive experience as I have. I should point out at the beginning that this is my kind of place. Basic menu of choices that are all delicious, a display case of freshly made baklava, and not really much else. The woman who is always behind the counter reminded me instantly of the German storekeepers I knew as a kid: a rather austere appearance, but the minute you smile and say hello she just reflects back that warmth. Now onto the important part: the food! I don't know the Persian words for what I'm eating [yet], but it's pretty basic. Simple food is always the best. You've got skewers of meat, a mount of long-grain rice, the occasional grilled tomato, and sides that include flat bread, yogurt sauce (like a tzatziki), and a nice little cucumber/tomato/onion salad fresh salad. There are options for the types of skewers of meat you want, and that's about it. Nothing more needed, really. There's a ground lamb kabob that I'd call kefta, but that's the Turkish/Arab term for the dish, and then there's chunks of lamb, chunks of chicken, and bone-in chicken that I haven't yet tried. "Chunks of chicken" doesn't sound at all amazing, but it really is. I tend to stay away from chicken because it's pretty flavorless, but the spices and the charcoal that they use to cook those puppies make it mouthwatering just to think about it! I always get some sort of lamb option because I love it so much and can't find it at too many places. Really, I'm doing this place injustice by this review. Just go! read more

Overall my favorite kabob place ever! If I ever move away from Virginia, this is the area food staple I'm going to miss the most (Kabob places all over). I usually go for lunch because I can get the Lunch Kubideh which is 1 skewer of kubideh, rice, yogurt sauce, and a piece of bread all for under $6, which to me is a great deal! You can also order the dinner portion for $9 and it comes with 2 skewers of kubideh. I also like the fact that they have daily specials that are not always on the usual menu. I believe its Thursdays, but whatever day they have the rack of lamb with chickpea rice, I also suggest that because the meat literally melts right off the bone. All of the meat here is always served hot and tender (not dry at all!) and to perfection in my opinion. I have had their steak, chicken, kubideh, and lamb and have been impressed by all of them. The bread is always fresh, and its the best bread of all the kabob place that I've ever tried, its always soft, fluffy and crispy. They actually make all of their bread at the store and you can even watch them make it while you wait. The seasonings/sauces they offer are also really good, I'm not sure what red seasoning that is on the tables there but sprinkle some of that on your rice and its the best. The Yogurt sauce (which actually has thin slices of real cucumber) and the ground jalapeno spicy sauce are also really good too. PS. they have cookies and baklava for desert! Well for starters I too have had experiences such as Joe R. described. I think the service has ALWAYS BEEN LACKING, but the food was on point. I ordered the lamb kabob with rice and half a bread. The lamb portion was small, dry and relatively tasteless with no caramelization. The rice was good, but the bread was crunchy and stale as if it was premade and then nuked just for me.
