Hmmm, we've been meaning to try this place since it's a block away, and also since its kind of amazing that according to the sign, they offers "kabobs, curry, burgers AND pizza." So to be fair, this review only covers curry, one of their four specialties. The decor is kind of amazing, six TV's all showing cricket matches, a weird old bearded dude who stares at you relentlessness (a very authentic south asian experience), and the same tile that was there when it was KFC, except I don't think the KFC had tablecloths. The saag paneer was good, though unlike most saag paneers in america, was not creamy. But it was probably healthier that way. The chicken tikka masala (yes, we eat boring subcontinental food like most lame Americans) was oddly sweet. Plus its a little pricey for the quality. Don't think we'd go back, but maybe we should have tried the burgers or pizza. read more

I went to Darul Kabab with my family and it was a wonderful experience. They took really good care of us. The owner was really nice and made sure we got good service. The food was very good and their buffet is excellent. I have sent some of my clients and friends to eat there and they agreed that the place was amazing. I dont really agree with the other reviewers about the food. You wont win points with your personal trainer for eating there, but it's pretty good guilty pleasure. And making kababs healthy would be like making hot dogs vegatarian. So i would kind of keep them for happy remorse food. Fatty and good. My only issue is that they're not on the seamless web. After living in NY and Chicago i got used to their awesomeness and dont want to go back to having my order messed up after waiting on the phone. This is no Pakistani or Indian style food, may be Bangladeshi. This is misrepresentation of Pakistani food. in Pakistan, Biryani, fish and vegi are not made like this at all - nowhere even close. There is only one sweet offering on buffet, which is Gulab Jaman. The worst I ever had, it was the stuff from ready-made canes, with all chemicals - terrible. Well that was an overall confusing experience. I walk into this Indian place, and there are banjos all over the walls, as well as a framed "History of the Banjo". Random. They are set up fast food style but try to serve it like a sit-down restaurant with varying degrees of success. There are so many tables packed in the rather makeshift dining room making it difficult to walk, and there are two large screens blasting different Bollywood channels. Atmosphere, 2 stars. The menu is also confusing. I understand they want to appeal to the widest audience, but who walks into an Indian place and orders a bagel with lox and cream cheese? Seriously... The food, if you go Indian, deserves 5 stars. Delicious. The best and most authentic Indian/Bangla food I've had in awhile. The service: 1 star. At best it is painfully awkward, at worst offensive. I went by myself once and they treated me wonderfully. Then I took my girlfriend, and they would not speak to her. When the waitress took our order they asked me "What does SHE want?" When she had a question about her meal, the waitress left, and got the manager, who again only spoke to me. Then we noticed everyone who worked in the kitchen were men, and all the service staff were women. We were both quite offended by this apparent sexism. So yeah, I'm really confused by this place. The food is good, but if you happened to be endowed with two X chromosomes or looking for a nice place to take a date, you might want to pass this one over. read more

We were visiting the area and couldn't find anything appealing to eat at such a late hour (close to 10:30). Drove by and stopped in Darul Kabab. Waitress was very friendly and said that though they weren't serving in the dining room, we could still get takeout. This was SERIOUSLY AMAZING takeout!! We wound up with a chickpea dish, a lamb dish, vegetable byriani and lots of yummy white rice. So delicious and well done. Portions were ample and food tasted unique and fresh. This review is based on the weekend lunch buffet only, and does not reflect on anything else not a part of this buffet. I was so excited because it said its Pakistani. I have never had authentic Pakistani food, but I have heard so much about it, I'm dying to try it. This place wasn't worth trying out. I feel like there should be strict laws against what cuisine a restaurant claims to serve (Just kidding!). This is a Bangladeshi place, serving sub par indian food. There aren't authentic Bengali dishes, nor are there any authentic Pakistani dishes. I don't know where their biryani is from, but its not Pakistani, or Hydrabadi or anything but average. I had the lunch buffet twice. I did not understand why this place charges slightly higher and other Indian restaurants do for their lunch buffets. I will say their tandoori chicken, beef gravy and chicken tikka were good. Again, not spectacular, but good. But their fish curry pretty bad. There was no trace of salt or spice. There was a tub was very watery gravy with large vegetables, and plain, unbattered, fried fish were added to this liquid. That was fish curry. So the fish was not boiled with the curry for it to catch on the masala. It was a huge disappointment. Their buffet dessert was not even worth talking about. read more

The worse experience I have ever had at a restaurant. I ordered rice for pick up a few times and every time I went I am being charged a different price for the same food. I spoke to the owner the first time this happened. The owner was very kind and apologized and offered to me dinner for two the next time I come back. But nothing changed the restaurant manager continued to be rude and kept changeling the price on my food. I would not be going back to this place. I have spoken to the owner again and informed him of the scam that is taking place at his restaurant. Let's hope they get a new manager and run an honest business. read more

The food is wonderful, and the prices low. The chicken biryani is great, though a bit spicier than I'm used to (but when mixed with some of the regular rice it was very appealing). The first time I came, they were out of vegetable samosas, but I liked the chicken samosa enough that I have ordered it on a later visit, and was pleased to find that it was less oily the second time (on my first visit, the samosa came sitting in a pool of oil, but tasted good once I used several napkins to drain it). The service is still slow even in uncrowded times, but seems more competent than it did last month. There are a few things that keep me from giving the place 5 stars: 1). The tables are crowded so close together that it can be uncomfortable at crowded times. 2). The wait people clean empty tables with an unpleasantly strong-smelling cleaning agent, which spoils the taste of food for a few minutes afterward -- I don't think of myself as particularly chemical-sensitive, and I think this would be horrible for people with real chemical-sensitivity problems, which is becoming more common. 3). Every time I have tried to come in the evening during the past three weeks (3 or 4 times total) there was the same gray SUV parked in the striped area to the right of the one handicap parking place. This striped area is NOT an actual parking place, and when an SUV occupies that striped space there isn't enough room to maneuver a car into the handicap space. I wouldn't be bothered so much if the SUV displayed a handicap parking permit -- I would then think that the person with the permit maybe needed more space to the left rather than the right of the car. But there was no permit displayed on this car, and the fact that it was there so frequently makes me think it belongs to someone who works at the restaurant. read more

I feel bad dumping on Darul but they really don't understand how to run a restaurant. Darul's food is decent. Not amazing but not terrible. They used to have an incredible takeout business before they redid their dining room and tried to make it more upscale with the whole white tablecloth thing. Turns out they really turned off their existing customers (us and many others) and as a result have only a few customers a night. They no longer carry the takeout samosas that we used to love. They filled a great spot for quick, affordable ethnic food in the neighborhood. They've really lost their niche with this new plan. They're now just one of many overpriced ethnic restaurants in the area. I really wish they understood this and their market because I hate walking by everyday and seeing 3 people in their dining room. They're now trying the buffet thing which is a good idea given there are no ethnic buffets in the area. The only problem is that they have become wrapped up in having elaborately expensive dishes like fish and lamb curries. As such the buffet is terribly over priced at $11 for lunch and $13 for dinner. Again, they've priced themselves out of the market. I really hope they figure their offering and market out. My husband called to ask the buffet price and the owner was defensive and explaining all of the expensive things on the buffet. The only problem is that the target market doesn't care about the lamb or fish curries! Know thy market and it's a chicken tikka masala and garlic nan one (even if it's incredibly inauthentic and a perverted version of indian cuisine). One of the worst restaurants I have been to in my entire life. The manager (I don't know if he's the owner or not but he probably is) is awful. I have been to this restaurant at least a couple of times, and each time I could not believe the terrible service and degree of stupidity that I had to dead with. First of all, they will tell that your dish will take 15-20 mins, but man it can take upto 45-50 minutes. Then, it turns out that they have screwed up your order: in our case, they got us a different dish than we had ordered and also forgot the Naan. We were so angry at this point that we didn't even bother asking for naan because we knew if would take them another 20 minutes to get that done. Extremely unprofessional, rude, and dishonest. Why can't they simply tell their customer the actual time it will take for their dish so that they decide they want to wait an hour or just go for a faster dish? Instead they just tell you that it will take 15-20 minutes: they're either lying or they're so incompetent that after running this place for so long they still don't know how long a chicken kebob dish can take, In either case, stay clear from this restaurant, or you will regret it very badly. PS: I have seen a lot of people getting their food for take-out, which means they don't have to deal with their terrible service which may explain why there are so many good reviews here. read more

I'm just a hick from Iowa, so I know nothing about South Asian food. But I like the food at Dural Kabab a lot. Their Lamb kabob is nearly perfect -seasoned just right. The birianis are good too, as is the chicken kabob. I've had many different items here, and the only one I was a bit disappointed with was the vandaloo, which was not spicy at all.
