My first sugaring experience was with Ayla and she is amazing. She was super sweet and easy to talk to. She explained everything, made me feel comfortable in an uncomfortable situation and worked so quickly. She gave me tips and recommendations and I was done! For me sugaring was close to painless, BUT I did take advil 30 minutes before my appointment. I was extremely surpised that it didn't hurt for me...could have been the advil, Ayla's technique, a high tolerance for pain or a combination of it all. Now I know it's not like that for everyone but if you are debating on trying sugaring and Darling Sugar, all I can say is I'm happy I went and I will absolutely return. I found Darling Sugar on yelp looking for sugaring boutiques near me. I booked an appointment with who ever was available. I got a reminder about my appointment in my email, which I could confirm or reschedule with ease. Before my Brazilian I took an otc pain killer, hair removal is pretty painful on coarse hair like mine. My first time there was over a year ago and I don't remember all the details, but I was booked with Ayla, I've been booking with her ever since. I had a few ingrown hairs pop up in the last few months and the scarring lasts for a long time on me. She told me everything I needed to do and gave me a little calming mask and exfoliating glove! I now exfoliate every day, as opposed to every other day and haven't had an ingrown in over a month now. I'll spare you all the before and after pics but I assure you she's the best at getting those pesky crevasse hairs. Thank you Ayla! I've found the Fountain of Youth, it's in West Seattle!!! I hate cheaters just about as much as I despise cucumbers, celery and bell peppers but I have a confession I cheated. But please note I'm also a proscritanor which is how I became a cheater. See my eyebrows were a mess I needed them done stat, and I couldn't get into my normal place for 7 days and there was no way I was waiting 7 more days sorry. So I bit the bullet and decided to try the new place in West Seattle. Holy Cow, you can schedule your own appointment online with their nifty scheduler and it shows you what times are available. I selected my date and time and with in hours received confirmation that my appointment was set. Went in, met with Melissa and came out with beautiful brows. I hate to report my cheating didn't stop there. Melissa has a special right now complimentary brow sugaring with any organic or Microderm facial. I need a facial badly, the stress from what was announced on 9/25 has done major damage to my skin, I was looking old and haggard. So I booked a Diamond Microderm Facial because diamonds are a girl's best friend and another brow sugaring. I have never had a Microderm facial and now I'm kicking myself for not having one sooner. The facial was amazing and my skin is smooth as a baby's butt. I walked in looking like an old mid-thirty-something and walked out looking like a young early-thirties-something. People I swear I have found the Fountain of Youth it's in West Seattle at the hands of Melissa at Darling Skincare and Sugaring! I'll try to keep this short - I could write a mini novel on the experience but I'll just stick to the important stuff. The technician was nice. The treatment room was nice but poorly lit. The results absolutely sucked. The poorly lit treatment room didn't allow the technician to see the hair she was missing. She also said the room was too hot so the sugar wasn't acting "normal" (I wonder what she's going to do when it is the middle of August and it gets really hot in there - not like the 65-70 degree May day that we had). When I went to pay for the service afterwards the tech told me their credit machine was broken so could I please come back tonight (it was already 8 pm) or tomorrow morning with cash? Unreal. She should have given me the option to mail in a payment instead of spending my last day pre-vacation making an unnecessary trip to West Seattle). Also, knowing she left some small hairs behind and that the sugar was not doing its job she could have offered a discount but no. After the skin irritation calmed down a few days later I was able to shave what she missed (quite a bit) and have had to shave regularly since. I'm very disappointed in the results and even more disappointed in the customer service as I left a note with the payment that I dropped off promptly the next day telling the tech (also owner) that the she missed a ton of hair (legs, underarm & bikini) and she never bothered to contact me. read more

A few months ago I had my first sugaring experience with Vanessa at Darling Sugaring. As a first timer, I was pretty nervous and wasn't exactly sure what to expect. Let me just say, Vanessa is super cool, professional and makes you feel completely comfortable. The first time I went here it was fine, not great. I've been sugared a lot and at a few different places and her technique involves some unnecessary yanking. The room she works in was not as clean as one might hope. I had a few complaints but she's close to my house and inexpensive so I was willing to give it another shot. Second appointment, I show up 10 minutes early and 15 minutes later she strolls in with a to-go box and a full mouth saying she was sorry but she "bumped into someone she hadn't seen in awhile". She didn't remember what I was there for and she didn't even have the room prepped yet. Sorry but that is way too unprofessional, I don't recommend this place. read more

I was recommended to go to Darling from a friend of mine, who has said MANY MANY times, "I am not a fan of sugaring. I just don't see the point, I don't like the process...blah blah blah" but she went and loved Vanessa's work. I have been waxed many times. If you read my Yelp rap sheet you will know. This was my first sugaring experience and I think I am a convert! Here's why: 1. She is quick - Her appointment before me was running ever so slightly late, so I didn't get in there until probably 6:15, but I was out of there at 6:30! A 15 minute brazilian is UN-heard of. AND she was thorough. For you fellow waxers, you know there is nothing more annoying then having to go back and touch up after shelling out $65! 2. *Almost* Painless - Now you may think, 15 minutes! OUCH!..Nope, It didn't hurt as much as waxing. Maybe because it didn't sting. I mean the hair is still being ripped from the follicle, but for whatever reason the pain doesn't last as long. 3. Her prices are fair! - I've done my sugaring research and her prices are definitely fair. Plus, there is free and plentiful parking. 4. The aftermath - I'm not red, puffy, or irritated looking. LOVE the booking online. I wish everyone did that. Make life so much easier. I got her half leg, which was from my toes to 2 inches above my knee. What a deal! My hairs were BURLY....and now they are gone. It's not baby soft, as there are 3 different stages of growth, and there were some that were too short to extract. But I'll get those suckers! She said in order to see the best results (aka reduced growth and all those other benefits, etc) I would need to come every 6 weeks for 6 months. Vanessa was cool. She def knows what she's doing and has had some practice! I felt very comfortable considering I've never done sugaring before. I'm happy. After running late for my appointment, getting a little bit lost int he neighborhood, and a slight miscommunication, I had a great sugaring session with Vanessa. She was very professional yet casual, and great personality. The only experience I had with waxing was when I got my brows waxed for prom.... a good 7 years ago.... so I don't have much [if anything] to compare to, but based on the stories I've heard, I don't think I wanna find out. I'm all for sugaring! ALSO, I don't know how many people have mentioned this, but she only accepts CASH & CHECKS. I saw this on the website before my appointment, but due to my procrastinating nature I forgot to pack my checkbook before I left the house. What's more embarrassing than having some stranger all up in your business? Not being able to pay!! Thankfully Vanessa let me send a check in the mail. Vanessa is an absolute doll! :) My friend and I wanted to try out Sugaring and what luck! Darling is located right on California and Vanessa's space is VERY clean, adorable and incredibly comfortable. To start - it was very easy to schedule an appointment online. I almost prefer it to calling in and trying to relay over the phone exactly what I want. I did write to her first with a couple questions and Vanessa was quick to respond and very encouraging to any questions we might have. When we got there, she made us feel right at home and her sweet, easy-going personality is a perfect mix of professional and fun. ;) As for the Sugaring (I've never had it done before) I don't think it could've gone any better! Of course there's a little pinch, but Vanessa knows what she's doing and she does it good! Ms. Vanessa, you are a God send! With online booking and super flex schedule I was able to sneak in a 30 min appoint late in the day to get a quickie sugaring downtown before a mini trip. Right off and straight forward Vanessa's got you on the table and chatting while the business is done. Plus its a great distraction for me because I've always been a bit of a wimp when it comes to that area of sugaring but the results were amazing with very little inflammation. I've been going here ever since I wrote my original review so its definitely time for an update. I had just been getting my eyebrows sugared until last September when I decided to try a full leg sugar. I love it! No shaving! I am super happy with the results of my leg sugar. You don't see these results immediately, all of your hair has to get on the same growth pattern (or something like that). Vanessa can explain it to you. Also, if she gives you some advice on how to better achieve a great result, I suggest you take it. When I got my first leg sugar she told me my skin was pretty dry and that it would help to use exfoliating gloves a few times a week. I listened and it worked, not to mention I really like exfoliating now. When I went for my sugar at the beginning of this month I noticed the pain was not quite as bad as when I first started. Apparently my hairs are thinning and it's becoming easier for her to pull them out. Sugaring is totally worth sitting on that table for an hour once a month! read more

I purchased a Bloomspot to use for Darling Skincare and Sugaring. The place is small and simple with some decoration. If you're looking for a high end spa, this is not it. Vanessa was very nice and still took me in even though I was 10 minutes late for my appointment. She informed me that my hair was possibly too short for her to get a clean finish and I could reschedule to keep my coupon if I would like. That was very generous of her but I figured I was already there and didn't want to drive back again on a different day. With that said, of course the sugaring wasn't as clean as I would have liked but that's likely due to my hair length. Overall, it was a nice place and not so dreadful experience ( I mean...when is pulling hair out ever a pleasant experience?...). Not sure I would return simply because there are many sugaring places popping up with more competitive prices. Worth it if you can snag a coupon. read more

I booked kind of last minute for a pre-vacation leg and bikini sugaring. Vanessa was awesome and squeezed me in at the ONE time I had free to come in, even though it was outside of her normal hours. I arrived a few minutes late, and she greeted me at the door to get started right away. Perfect! I hate to wait (hypocrisy, I know). I would describe myself as pretty hairy, but Vanessa made me feel comfortable right away, commenting on how sparse my hair is (NOT TRUE - but thanks for easing my anxiety about it), and dove right in. I've been sugared before, and she was faster and way more thorough than I've ever experienced. Also, I felt because of her speed that there was hardly any pain. She did an excellent job, with no random strays left behind - impressive! I will definitely be back. The prices were reasonable and compared to what I've paid before, and scheduling was a breeze. I have discovered sugaring and I am in love! Darling has online appointment scheduling which is so nice--you can schedule your appointment any time of day whether they are open or not! I was able to schedule myself for a brow and Brazilian that I badly needed. The treatment room was so cute and nicely decorated. It was very comfortable and clean feeling, while still having character. Vanessa explained to me exactly how sugaring differed from waxing, made sure I was comfortable, and got to work. She definitely made me as comfortable as possible while I was baring myself to a total stranger! Let me tell you, sugaring is so much better than waxing! The pain is minimal and the results are so much better. My very sensitive skin did not react the same way it does to hard wax, which is so nice. Vanessa also did a great job on my brows. I've been going here for more than a year and it has always been a great experience. Of course, getting hair removed isn't exactly "fun," but Vanessa makes it as painless as possible. Her studio is clean and comfortable and there's always parking on the street out-front or nearby. Even if you schedule a Brazilian (or Brazilian maintenance) she will still confirm that you want "everything off" and if you decide to leave a landing strip, she'll ask you what shape you want and then have you look at it to see if you like if at the end. Don't be afraid to tell her if you want something changed! The prices are competitive with other sugaring places I've been to and looked at online. The Happy Hour deal and the new punch card for bikini services are great as well! When I started going here, Vanessa could only accept cash and checks, but she now also accepts Visa and Mastercard. Scheduling appointments online is discreet and convenient. When I had to call and schedule with another place I felt so awkward telling the woman that I wanted my bikini area sugared. Booking online takes all of that awkwardness away. Vanessa isn't afraid to tell you all about her job, answer any questions you have, and explain the process to you. She'll ask you questions about yourself and talk you through the most painful parts of the process to keep you distracted so it isn't too bad. She doesn't make you uncomfortable at all while doing something so obviously up close and personal, and the whole experience is very clean and professional. She treats everyone with sincere niceness, no matter their body type. She'll even sugar pregnant women. So don't be hesitant based on your figure. I would definitely say if you want a Brazilian, work your way up to it. Start with a Basic Bikini, then an Extended Bikini, and eventually get to the Brazilian. Otherwise tears might flow, and no one wants that. If it's your first time, definitely go to Darling, it'll be a great experience. read more

I've been going to Darling to get sugared for some years now. It is without a doubt, my "go-to" place to for hair removal. Yesterday I went in to get my legs sugared by the new hire, Kassi. She is a great addition to Darling Skincare! Kassi is super friendly and I felt comfortable right away. Hair removal can be a bit on the uncomfortable side for some of us, so I find the constant conversation a great distraction. Kassi did a really thorough job on my legs! Personally, I tend to vascillate between waxing and sugaring. For this visit (my 1st time), I got the saucy little thing package for brow, underarms, and bikini. Vanessa über cool and laid back. She thoroughly describes (and will re-explain if you're not clear) what to expect, and even gives tips should some minor and NORMAL irritation occur. She was witty conversationalist, and is excellent at her craft. She has the technical skill and pleasant demeanor a professional in her field should have. Easy to book appointments online and pricing is listed there too. She also told me about her "happy hour" pricing and her suggested frequency for scheduling. I've gone to a couple different sugaring experts within the past couple years and I have got to say, in my time of need Vanessa was the perfect person to run into - and I think I will be transferring to her now! I had an extended bikini sugaring. The price was very reasonable ($45 - other places charge like $65-80 which is kind of ridiculous!) The whole thing took probably about 15-20 mins. She was quick (which is really appreciated) and was very detail-oriented! I looooove this characteristic because I've had sugaring experiences where there would be random hairs still lingering, but Vanessa was careful to pluck what she could to make the sugaring complete and clean. She also has a GREAT eye because never have I had an almost symmetrical sugaring. Usually the shape would be crooked - and I totally understand that! - but somehow she got it to be the exact shape that was pretty much in my head. Thumbs up to that! She was really laid back, funny, clean, friendly (like you've known her for a while kind of feel - it was nice) and has outstanding bedside etiquette (small gestures like asking if things looked good in my eyes, soft voice making it a welcoming environment, kind motions to move on to the next steps, helping you feel comfortable). She's been sugaring for about 7 years and I believe it. I had a great experience and she was professional. Her space was decorated and styled very nicely - comfy, warm, inviting are the words that popped into my head upon entering the loft.
