    Dark star cellar

My boyfriend and I stopped by Dark Star on our roadtrip down south. Randy was behind the bar and he was amazingly friendly, chatty and provided us AMAZING service. He knew how to pair wines together so we could do side by side pairings and offered us details on the history and grapes used to make each wine. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS WINERY! You will not be disappointed.

Ricordati, my favorite blend. Balanced, full bodied yet elegant.

We stopped in to Dark Star Cellars to see Natalie Gelman perform. She was amazing as usual! This is a smaller winery with a very casual, laidback vibe right off route 46 West. Very friendly staff and they really want you to taste their wines. 8 different tastings for $20, so you get a lot! Their Ricordati blend was my favorite but several others were also excellent. Highly recommended for a true taste of Paso with a friendly down home feel.

8 tastings for $20, the fee is waived if you purchase a bottle. The charcuterie plate is pretty basic but it was good because we hadn't eaten yet. On Saturday around 1 the band begins to play. There's also axe throwing and corn hole, and plenty of outside seating. Zen dog started serving hot dogs around 2:30.

Soo good we brought home these babies!

I did approximately 16 Harvest Host wineries in California on my trip, and this one is by far my favorite. Let me tell you why. I met Adrienne first, she started my tasting and was so incredibly warm and friendly. Chatting with her was like chatting with an old friend. 8 pours for $20, waived if you buy bottles - you can't beat that anywhere!! They have a great variety of reds and whites. If I lived in the area I would be in the wine club!! Then Mike, the owner took over. What a treat. Mike is a really intelligent and interesting guy, with so much knowledge about wine, a passion for rescue dogs, and a great sense of humor. My favorite part about this winery is that he is sells port in a regular sized bottle! I have a crazy sweet tooth and was thrilled to see that. Thanks so much, Mike and Adrienne! I cant wait to visit again one day!

Wine is comparable to the best Paso has to offer and about half the price. Nice low key atmosphere. No pretense here just really good wine.

We are the type of members who always take great care of the staff and rarely leave without purchasing extra bottles, yet today we were treated like an inconvenience. Despite being told in the past that spontaneous visits were no problem for members, we were turned away on a gloomy Monday with plenty of open tables. The host at the entrance was incredibly dismissive and wouldn't even let us finish our sentence before cutting us off. We were told our only options were to come back in an hour, a "limited" tasting, drive all the way downtown, or just pick up our shipment and leave. We asked for the Wine Club Manager to resolve the situation, but she wasn't on-site. To be offered a "partial" tasting as a favor after nearly ten years of support was the final straw. It feels as though they now prioritize "closing" new members over honoring the people who have supported them for years. They've gone mainstream and lost the personal touch that made them special.

I had the opportunity to stay at the Summerwood Inn in Paso Robles, CA and fell in love with it. It has to be one of my favorite places to stay. The Inn itself and my room were so inviting and relaxing. The bed and comforter were very comfortable. There's nothing worse than a bad sleep on a vacation and wanting to go home to your own bed. I didn't want to leave this one. They did have a wifi and a desk so that I could check my email, but I was barely on the computer because there was too much to enjoy. My room overlooked this courtyard which was even more beautiful at night. Behind the Inn was the winery. It was so peaceful. Chef Kelly Wangard is responsible for the decorating and the amazing cuisine. She also won Cut Throat Kitchen. We were watching the Food Network and the repeat came on. I got this great pic of Kelly watching herself. There is a reason Kelly won. Her food is so delicious. You could order breakfast the night before and it was prepared for you in the morning. The Eggs Benedict just melted in your mouth and it was served with a side of greens and potatoes. In the evening Kelly had wine and h'ordeuvres for us and dessert, coffee, and tea in the evening. Then you could unwind with a hot bath and their exclusive bath soaps and lotions - they smell amazing! You could curl up and read a book or check out the surrounding area. I highly recommend doing both. No matter what your reason is for taking a vacation Summerwood Inn is the perfect place to stay while you're in wine country.

It's the kind of place where you could easily sit for hours enjoying the landscape and a glass of wine. The wines are consistently excellent. The tasting lineup always showcases the quality DAOU is known for, and one of the great perks is that they often have several library wines available that can be requested and served by the glass. Being able to enjoy some of their older vintages this way makes the experience even more special for wine enthusiasts. What I appreciate most about DAOU is how they've managed to maintain a small, family-style atmosphere despite being acquired by a larger company a few years ago. The hospitality still feels personal and genuine. The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, not only about the wines themselves but also about the history of the vineyard and the vision behind it. I'm a big fan of this winery and how it has evolved over the years. Between the stunning views, exceptional wines, and welcoming staff, DAOU is always a must-stop whenever visiting Paso Robles.

By the end, pretty much everyone in our group had found a wine they wanted to take home--including the ones who swore they weren't buying anything. Dennis, our Tasting Room Host, made the experience. He was warm, very knowledgeable, and genuinely engaging with everyone--from the serious wine lovers to our six-year-old--while keeping things professional and elevated. The whole visit struck that rare balance: polished without feeling formal, refined without ever feeling rushed or "in-and-out." Dennis has been with Eberle since 2017, and you can feel how much he cares about the place. He spoke about the winery with such genuine pride, and as you look around the tasting room at the rows of award ribbons from years of vintages, it hits you--this is a place with real history behind it. That sense of legacy and care is woven into the whole experience. The historic wine caves are a must, the complimentary tasting felt generous and unhurried, and the grounds have that unmistakable Paso magic--rolling hills, big oaks, golden light, and room to breathe. We even crossed paths with Gary Eberle (founder, 1979) and his sweet black poodle, Vieto--one of those authentic, only-in-wine-country moments that sums up the welcoming spirit here. If you go, ask for Dennis--he turned our first visit into one we'll plan future trips around. Good to know before you visit: * Make a reservation--it gets busy * Don't skip the cave tour (you can even taste down there) * Large lawn & games--great for kids and mixed groups * Very dog-friendly * Private, romantic tastings available in the caves * Complimentary tastings + military discount available * Plan to stay a while...and bring your camera :)
