However, the waitress was standing against the wall chatting it up with her friend (another customer)-walked away then took minutes to come back for our drink order. Love the atmosphere. It's like a classic diner with an open and very clean feel. The staff is just wonderful and makes the experience well worth it. The food is always fabulous. Great selection. We eat here often because the breakfast is fabulous but the food in general is too. The management is so attentive and my young son loves to go here because irs so child friendly. It's a little snug and gets crazy crowded on weekends but it's expected for the experience once seated. The bathrooms are clean too. They give prices to the kids, crayons and mats to play while waiting. Cobs: small parking area so you need to park at the bank lot when busy. Also they should consider steak fries! read more

This is one of my favorite spots in town to get breakfast. Fantastic place to eat for two or a family meal. The Staff made us feel so welcomed and all very personable. We have had two meals here in the last 24 hours. Extensive menu offers so many great options. I enjoyed the Greek dish, Moussaka with the side Greek salad. We took home Baklava for later. My husband enjoyed the Cobb Salad and and homemade chili. Today we enjoyed the Monte Cristo open faced sandwich, corn beef hash and California omelet. The owner personally came by to ask how our meal was and thanked us for our business. You know the Post Road Diner on Connecticut Avenue? Next to Carvel? It has a sister location on the Darien border called aptly enough, The Darien Diner. Same 50s accoutrements, but a bit smaller. It's no surprise this diner only had one other review....it's almost like it doesn't exist. Which is odd considering how close it it to one of the most highly if not THE highest travelled highways in the United States. But the diner just sits there quietly, beckoning you to come in. When you're ready, of course. You know, I must have driven by this place a bazillion times, but I never went in. Until now. Or did I? Yes, I'm pretty sure I ate there last night. I remember a picture of Andy Warhol in the men's room. Not that I ate my meal in the men's room...I sat at a table with my family. Was it weird? LIke an episode of the Twilight Zone? Oh yeah, something was a bit off, but I'd go back. FYI, a bit spendy. BUT....... The salad that came with my meal was a meal in itself ("You had to have the BIG salad") and they did give us free soda refills, so props for that. I wonder how late they stay open? read more

I was getting my car serviced at the Mini dealership across the street and knew I was in for a long day. The guys at the dealership recommended Darien diner so I came on over for lunch. I loved the 50s diner style look of it. The menu was quite extensive and had both greasy spoon type foods and more healthy options. I decided to go full greasy that day so I ordered clam strips and french fries with cheese on the side. Both were delicious. I ate them up and wanted more. The one comment I had was I asked if they had sweet tea and they did not. I understand I am in the north and sweet tea isn't standard, but I would still think I could get some at a diner. read more

This was an absolutely horrible experience. Our waiter was a consistent disappointment. I ordered grilled cheese and was asked if I wanted my bread toasted (no, I want it grilled). My boyfriend ordered a side of homefries with his meal, they never came. When he asked two more times once our food arrived, the waiter said he forgot to put them in; then came back and said they didn't have any today and he forgot to tell us because he got busy. We had to ask for things like straws and silverware because he didn't remember to give them to us. The food came out cold and not how we ordered it. I don't believe this is the kitchen staff's fault - our waiter didn't put in our requests correctly and got too busy to deliver our food while it was hot. This place is ok. I like the post road diner's food alot better though. Basically the same type of menu with the same prices.The waitstaff is friendly, however the parking is kind of bad, it is pretty hard to get back onto the main street without getting hit. Normal diner food, nothing fancy or to rave about. The service is absolutely horrendous. I've been a few times mostly just me and my 2 year old son. They ALWAYS try making us sit at a cramped table by the bathroom. The food takes on average 45 minutes. I mean I had a club sandwich and my son had chicken fingers. 45 minutes? Maybe you should get new cooks. Waitress never came over to check on food and you have to flag someone down to get another soda. She's drops the check without asking if I want anything else. We got there at just the right time on a Sunday morning, we were greeted and seated right away. We ordered gluten free pancakes for the little one, my husband got a California omelette and I ordered the Irish eggs benedict, that comes with corned beef hash. My sons pancakes took a little longer to come out but they were delicious! My hubby's omelette was also very tasty, filled with lots of cheese and veggies. The home fried potatoes that came on the side were pretty decent. My eggs benedict for quite a disappointment however. First of all, it was placed on a soggy English muffin which was a surprise because it didn't say that it comes with those on the menu. Out of the two poached eggs one was served with the yolk already broken! The hash was barely edible and clearly had to come out of a can. Gross.. I plan to dine elsewhere in the future. Food quality not up to par. Guy at the register (I believe the manager) was rude and dismissive. Inadequate low/lower carbohydrate menu options. To accompany an omelette, we had to pay extra to remove the starch and substitute tomatoes which were the absolute worst quality I have encountered in recent memory- barely ripe, very tough, and tasteless. I've been here twice and both times I was amazed by their extensive and diverse menu. Pasta, sandwiches, paninis, salads, burgers, soups, and classic comfort foods are some of the choices for lunch and dinner, with a ton of different side and appetizer options. They also do breakfast all day here, with pancakes, waffles, every type of egg dish, and fresh baked goods. They've even got a bakery style case of cakes and desserts in addition to the pie, milkshakes and such that you can order off the menu. So for selection, they're great. I think you'll be able to find something everyone wants if you go here. Both times I got a salad, and both were rather unique options. The first time it was a salmon salad with a big piece of salmon atop a salad with flatbread and capers. Needless to say it was delicious! The second time I got the chicken salad platter, which is actually a salad topped with potato salad, chicken salad, and coleslaw. Serving size was huge, and the wide variety of ingredients in the salad base (included red onions, kalamata olives, spicy yellow peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, and lettuce) meant that there were things that complemented each of the three salads on top. My favorite was the potato salad, and the coleslaw was outstanding too. My mom got some kind of fish and rice dish, and then meatloaf with mashed potatoes. She loved both. Their blueberry pie was incredible too! The decor in this diner is really really cute and consistent with the 50s theme, it looks like it's straight out of a movie! The service is super attentive and extremely friendly. My only complaints are that the service is pretty slow (understandable considering they actually have to MAKE this great food) and that sometimes the service is so attentive they actually check up on you too much. All in all though, this is my favorite restaurant in the area, and I will be coming back again. read more

So, I will say that I've been to this diner several times and the food is always mediocre, but this review is mostly about what my wife experienced when she went there alone and hungry a few days ago. She arrived just before 4pm, but went into the restroom first. When she came out, she asked the server for one of their "specials." The waiter said "those are only available until 4pm" and my wife said "it's only 5mins past 4." The waiter said OK and took her order. Then, the manager (probably owner) overheard the conversation, was rude to my wife, told her she cannot have the special, then berated the waiter for agreeing to take the order. My wife walked out. Don't support this business unless you really like being treated like a second class citizen and love mediocre food! P.S. I love the Parkway Diner on High Ridge Road in Stamford. It's just south of the Merit Parkway across the street from Starbucks. I usually get the breakfast "special" which is eggs any way, hash browns, meat and one pancake for $7. It's consistently excellent - eggs scrambled soft, crispy bacon and hash browns - some places get this wrong, but not the Parkway Diner. They also have a killer Reuben and Fries! read more

Enjoyed a great breakfast here with family and friends. Ordered the French Toast Bananas Foster, described as: CINNAMON RAISIN FRENCH TOAST FLAMBÉ with bananas in brown sugar, rum, topped with whipped cream. I've ordered a veggie burger here in the past and it was a decent veggie burger that wasn't some frozen crap but today I ordered one and I got a Boca burger ... and I know it was a frozen Boca burger because I have them in my freezer.
