But if you're looking for some good laughs and don't mind talking to strangers then this is the place to come. It was my first time in and Desmond made it known to the entire [tiny] bar. He's the entire show of coming here - really all the entertainment. Never a dull moment. He makes everyone feel welcome and you will undoubtedly end up talking with the people around you. You'll have quite a good time and Desmond is an attentive bartender as well. Not sure if health regulations are followed very properly, which is my only concern. It's a cute little spot that has become a staple visit whenever I'm in Edmonds. It closes earlier than some other places in the area but it's never bothered me. It's small and dark so it's more of an intimate couple or maybe 1-2 friends setting. The drinks are usually are around $10-$12 and I find them very well made. The Moscow Mule is my personal favorite and I always order 2 or 3 whenever I visit. I've been about 3 times now and I've never been disappointed and enjoy the general quiet, dark vibe that it has. for the first time in 10 years, i walked past Daphnes Cafe and saw empty seats! we immediately cancelled our dinner reservation at salt & iron, and stepped into Daphnes Cafe and claimed two seats at the bar. Daphnes Cafe is next door to the Edmonds Theater. it is teeny tiny with 8 or 9 seats at the L-shaped bar and two tables that might seat two, maybe three per table. Desmond, the bartender is full of energy and calls out a welcome to anyone entering, peeking in, or walking by. he seems to know everyone. he is funny, quick to laugh and you can't help but laugh along with him. Desmond's mixing style has flair and never skips a beat as he greets or entertains his customers with lively chat. there is a small well-priced food menu of charcuterie, salumi and cheese and fruit. if you see an open seat, run in and grab a place at the bar, and have a moscow mule or a blueberry manhattan and have some fun. read more

Updated review: Daphne's used to be my favorite bar. Last night (2/14/2019) my husband and I got a babysitter and headed out to celebrate our first anniversary as a married couple. After dinner, we went to Daphne's to have drinks. As we walked up, we found a sign posted on the door that said "No couples please. Singles welcome!" We laughed (given it was Valentine's Day) and walked in. The first thing I noticed was how empty it was. 4 people drinking at the bar and 2 bartenders for a total of 6 people in a place that frequently jams 15+ people in a space the size of some walk in closets. We were immediately greeted with very unwelcoming stares from both the bartenders (one female and one male, not Desmond- have never seen either of them at Daphne's before). I jokingly said, "We're not together." To which the male bartender responded with something along the lines of "it looks like you are". I kept playing along with the "joke" and when both bartenders did not let up, I said "Am I allowed to exchange US dollars for alcoholic beverages?" What happened next left me speechless, quite literally. The male bartender responded with "No, I actually can't/am not allowed to serve you tonight." I turned to my husband and looked back at the female bartender who started on some story about why and how it's "actually such a sweet story" and something about Logan (one of the other bartenders who has served us in the past). I didn't stick around to hear her try to explain why my husband and I were being refused service. Sorry to leave you hanging, but I won't be back to find out. It appears as though Daphne's has forgotten that a dollar from a paying customer is still a dollar, regardless of relationship status. I might have understood if there was a private event, a packed house, or just a joke on the door with no serious intentions of discriminating against me and refusing to serve my husband because we appeared to be in a relationship. No Moscow Mule, regardless of how the mint is spanked, can erase the sheer embarrassment I felt standing in the middle of the tiniest bar in Edmonds, 6 sets of eyes staring at me, as I was uninvited to my (ex) favorite place to get cocktails. read more

This is a quaint little bar, and has really good craft cocktails. Unfortunately on the night we had the opportunity to give it a try a few of the patrons were so loud and obnoxious that it was hard to enjoy ourselves. It's a small place and it was packed. Drinks are self order at the bar and they were really great. Just wish the ambiance would have been a little nicer. All was good once the party that had enjoyed one too many cocktails stumbled out the door onto the street. Will try it again if we ever find ourselves in Edmonds again. read more

Daphne's is a great little spot for a lot of reasons. First and foremost, it has a definite sense of the personality it wants to project; it wants to show you that it can create an urbane setting in the middle of a fairly suburbane environment. Main Street Edmonds has the most cosmopolitan flair in the whole Edmonds Bowl, to be sure, for whatever that's worth. So Daphne's is definitely the right spot. It's in between a movie theater and a thai place. And it does feel kind of citified in terms of the footprint of the place--it has room for a bar, a short row of stools, and a couple tables. It chains off space for a couple bistro tables outside, where there's not a lot of interruptive foot traffic, and there's a nice salt breeze blowing up from the sound on nice sunny days. Inside, you're looking at a place that aims for the feel of a genuine cocktail lounge, and it probably lays its aim not far off the neoclassical cocktail revival that so many places have going on these days. Since the barback here is fairly small, the scale is much more modest, but the spirit is similar. Lots of straight-ahead poppy jazz and bop on the hi-fi: Sinatra, Ella, Duke, Miles. Along the walls, there are vintage and antique guitars and other stringed instruments, and old event flyers. There's some old-school wainscoting and wallpaper, and an old-school barber chair, for some reason, in the hallway that leads to the loo. Did this place used to be a barber shop? Could be. They mention food prominently on the website, but everything about the place out front suggests that it's strictly a bar--you names your poison, you bottoms up, you bellies off for home. I am sure they do have that food, but I just haven't tried it yet. Most likely I'll be back, and maybe inquire then about the cheese plate. read more

I love this place! It's like Paris in the 1930's must have been! And the drinks are great! ( I'm a bartender myself, so I know!) Used to be a Wine Bar, but expanding into crafted cocktails was a wise move as it is hard to find a place like this in the area! They also feature historical information about Edmonds which we found interesting. Scrapbooks of old newspaper clippings and history of the town. First off, there is a new barkeep behind the bar: Desmond. With his foreign accent (Aussie or New Zealand?), Desmond orchestrated a great time. The seating is comfy and cozy, and with Desmond there, all of us strangers felt like family. Secondly, they now have a full bar here!! What an incredible bar. My friends and I came here on a Friday night- the bar (including the outside seating area) was super packed so we walked around the beach and returned until we found an open booth inside. The bar itself is very small (only 2 tables) but once you enter the bar, it's as if you're transported to a different era/city- very much like a speakeasy in NYC. The workers here are awesome and the main bartender (I think he's the owner) immediately greeted our group and seemed to really love what he was doing. I couldn't get over how beautiful and romantic this bar is- the staff really puts and extra effort to make you feel welcomed. They make a killer gin and tonic and are really generous with their wine glasses. I would really make an effort to find a seat in the actual bar as the ambiance inside is unmatched to anything I've experienced in Washington state. Really excited to have found my new favorite bar. I would give this place 6-7 stars on yelp if possible. We come here for Desmond, strong cocktails and loose conversation. My husband really enjoys the Corpse Reviver, but my favorite is the Aviation. The Monarch is also a good choice.
