I'm sorry to hear people with such experiences to say this was sub par! I was here in September and had the absolute best Tom Yum ever! I order this soup at each Thai restaurant I patronize, this being the best and largest bowl I have sampled. I'm a very hungry boy with a huge appetite and this soup alone filled me. Soooooo tasty! My lover got the #25- I believe Pad See Eiw..... that dish was again incredibly delicious! The chicken was not the usual I have gotten elsewhere where it seems boiled. It was tender and seemed to be good quality. I also noted the egg to stand out from the usual noodle dishes. I'm heading back to Chicago after Thanksgiving. They agreed but went ahead and charged me. I was checking out a condo across the street... And decided to get lunch after the appointment. Since I haven't had Thai food in a while... This was a place that was calling to me... unfortunately it was too hot outside to take advantage of it look like a really cute little Courtyard with a couple tables... So inside I went. The interior is pretty large and it's not too shabby, I grabbed a corner table booth by the window and ordered some crazy noodles and a cucumber salad. I'm going to say that service was not very good here at all... And I had to specifically ask for items because no one stopped by... Except when I looked up like I wanted to leave that's when I was able to flag somebody down about the shrimp in my entree being undercooked. They were able to fix it in the kitchen per my instructions but that pile of five shrimp that I had separated out I've been sitting there for a good 10 minutes waiting for someone to stop by so I can ask for it to be cooked a little more. Food TBH was okay but nothing particularly great and the service was really really poor. For the price which is expensive for Thai food but maybe comparable for the area... I was disappointed, there was not much flavor at all in the fried rice, just tasted super oily. Granted, I did order fried rice but that doesn't mean it should be super greasy. The shrimp were baby pre frozen shrimp which weren't tasty and didn't absorb the flavor. While they did serve a large portion, for like 6 meals, I couldn't eat more than 4 bites because it wasn't tasty. I ended up leaving this in my hotel room. Ordering was fine, quick and easy. Never been to the actual restaurant but my manager loves ordering from here whenever the company that I work for buys us lunch. Ive tried enough entrees here that it is worthy of a review. I think what you get from here is a hit or miss. Tried the Lard Nar and the Pad Ew Sew here and it was terrible. The meat was dry and had that burnt taste. The noodles were soggy by the time I got my food that I really had no desire to eat it other than the fact that it was a free meal and I'm usually starving around lunchtime. Their pad Thai, on the other hand, is pretty good. Is it the best I've had? No, but I have gotten it a couple of times and I was satisfied. Their teriyaki salmon is also good, and so is their cashew chicken. However, I just had their cashew chicken the other day and again, somewhat of a burnt taste. What is up with that? OK, 3.5 stars, but I'm feeling generous. Before I knew what was good here, I'd say 2 stars; but now we've gone through a lot of the menu, and I finally know what to order at this place. So this is like a personal note to myself so I remember what to get next time. We've eaten here and ordered delivery from this place many times, and I always try several different dishes so I can figure out what's good. There are some losers, but here are a few winners: Recommended: * Pad See Eiw Noodle with Beef: the perfect amount of seasoning and flavor; even good as leftovers the next day * Yum Woon Sen Salad (Gluten Free) with Chicken: noodles with a lemon coconut spicy sauce * Rice Stick Noodles (Gluten Free) with Chicken: simple but flavorful garlicky soup with rice noodles, chicken, celery, bean sprouts, and a touch of cilantro and green onion. * Potstickers: perfectly soft but crispy, good flavor, and tasty spicy and sweet sauce Not recommended: * Chinese broccoli (just because we receive regular broccoli when we order this) * Pad Khee Mao: the flavor of this dish is not great The ambiance of this place is unique and seems authentic. It's more spacious than it looks from the outside, and the waitstaff is usually pretty attentive and friendly. If your waiter or waitress is unavailable at the moment, you can always flag someone down who will get you what you need. People can sit at regular tables or at the tables where you sit on a platform and put your feet in a big hole. Again, once you know what to order, this place is pretty good. read more

This was my second time visiting Dao Thai (it had been about 2 years since my last visit) and I remember liking the place, but couldn't remember why I wasn't overly thrilled with the place. Now I remember: the food has absolutely no spice and pretty bland. I ordered the vegetarian Pad See Ewe with tofu and I did ask for a little spice to it, but it had none. I had to add so much chili garlic sauce on top and that still didn't seem to spice things up. My sister ordered the Pad Thai with vegetables, but asked for tofu, but didn't get any tofu on her dish at all. It would have taken longer to cook up some tofu, so she just didn't have any on her dish. Same goes for the Pad Thai - bland bland bland! My husband ordered the Dao's Noodle Delight which was noodles, with tofu, bean sprouts in a soy sauce, but it also had no flavor and was heavily salty. I didn't like it. There are so many restaurants around I wanted to try an Irish pub around the corner. It was tremendously crowded and I did not want to wait. So I went around the corner to this restaurant. I like Thai l. I was the only customer at 5:30 pm. Now I am a typical American so I like medium spice. But I do like Thai dishes. I ordered the fresh roll but got "spring rolls" instead. Normally this wouldn't be a problem for me. I would just eat them; but the spring rolls were long a doughy, and cut up in wedges. Very odd looking and very bland. Surprisingly bland. The beef and rice dish was equally bland. I did not complain because I'm not that type of customer. I'm always polite. When you're paying an arm and a leg for movie tickets and parking to go to one of the most expensive movie theaters in Chicago, AMC River East, Dao is a great cheap option that won't burn another whole in your pockets! Miso Soup, Fresh Spring Rolls, Green Tea, and Pad Thai is what I regularly order. Even though everything is really good here I usually stick to that bc it's my fave! The peanut sauce here is incomparable to anywhere else! I always order a side of it and smother it over everything. I would straight up eat it with a spoon if I could. Thus is my crazed love for peanut sauce! Decor and ambiance is cool. They have Thai artifacts scattered about. They have regular tables and tables where your can sit on mats on the floor. Quite possibly one of the WORST meals I have had to date. The wait at Gyu Kaku was 3+ hours and my fam and I were starved. So we opted to try the Thai place down the road - and boy, was that an awful idea... Everything came out cold, smelled weird, and had absolutely no taste. I am so appalled even thinking of the meal while writing this review because I'm confused as to how a restaurant like this is still allowed to be open. The Dao's appetizer platter was horrible. Everything tasted far from fresh - as if it was heated up from a frozen box. Entrees (drunken noodles, Penang curry - not sure how you can terribly mess up simple orders like this...) were also such a mess - cold, tasteless, and just off in general. I eat a LOT of Thai food, so I consider myself to have a good idea for what the standard should be. And this place was nowhere NEAR that. All in all, a zero star experience.
