Really solid cheesesteak that blows any NYC bodega out of the water. Came in on a Thursday afternoon. No line, walked right up. Friendly service and some standing spots left inside to pony up and eat my sandwich. Got the cheesesteak with hot peppers and a root beer. Came out with tip to $30, so by no means cheap. The cheesesteak was super flavorful, and I thought it had a good ratio of meat to cheese. I also appreciated the seeded roll that added flavor and wasn't just a bulky bread vessel for the meat. The peppers cost extra, and there weren't enough to cover the cheesesteak, which was a let-down; I had to finish the second half with no peppers at all. I'm giving this place 4 strong stars. Aside from the size of the sandwich and the quality of the bread , this sandwich fell short in my expectations for an elite cheesesteak . The cheese sauce they use was the dominant flavor that permeated throughout the meal and the steak itself although having a good texture , had little to no flavor profile . Even with the addition of the peppers the sandwich just didn't live up to the noise surrounding it . Have to agree that this is one of the best openings the year it came out. Hype aside surrounding Bradley Cooper, this is a really great philly cheesesteak especially given the fact that we're in NYC not Philly. The meat was perfectly tender, fatty, rich, and the cheese was melty. The bread was nicely toasted and really fragrant, and it's perfect to split with someone so you leave not too full, although if you're trying to pass out for the rest of the day you could def crush it yourself and have an amazing day, too. The menu is simple so it won't require too much thinking. It's a small space with standing space on either side. Simple place with only one item on their menu. A cheesesteak, but a damn amazing one at that. You get a seeded roll with tender ribeye, cooper sharp cheese, and onions with an optional side of sweet or hot peppers add on. Zero substitutions. Honestly the perfect combination without feeling overly greasy, but crazy rich with the amount of cheese and steak you get. I'd recommend getting peppers to add another dimension to the flavors. Their bread also sets them apart from other cheesesteaks I've had. They are baked fresh in house daily with a nice crisp exterior loaded with sesame, but super soft inside and easy to bite into. The place was packed with people on a Sunday late afternoon waiting for their orders, but there was no line to order and it only took about 20 minutes to get my food. There is an overwhelming scent of smoke within the actual shop and standing countertops for those who want to eat in. You can definitely tell that it was not frozen. The onions were grilled perfectly and in my opinion, the ratio of the cheese was perfect where each bite was seriously mouthwatering. Like I said, the actual location is very small. Where once you get your food, there's only a couple small places to eat and stand no places to sit so the overall vibe of the establishment is not much. The space itself was fairly small and more for ordering to go, which makes sense given that they really only serve one thing. But I would recommend checking it out for curiosity sake. There was a line when I stopped but it was processed fairly quickly. My main gripe is the price at $20 or so, which is a bit pricey. All the hype is REAL. The sandwich is top notch in terms of quality, flavor and ingredients. Though extremely busy and always long line, it's so worth the wait. Inside there's just standing counter but almost all patrons take it across the street to Tompkins Square Park to enjoy on a bench. One of the best cheesesteak I've ever eaten anywhere. Thank you freak rainstorm! It's taken me months and a freak rainstorm for this line to dissipate to a point where I could visit. I've been to Angelo's Pizzeria in Philly which is a sister to Danny & Coop's here in NYC. This idea of bringing a Philly favorite to NYC is partially the brainchild of Angelo's and Bradley Cooper the actor that started as a food truck in NYC. I'm thankful for them doing so because traveling to Philly to visit Angelo's Pizzeria is still a much longer trek than waiting on another awful NYC line for quite frankly, anything! The Cheesesteak is the same as the one in Philly thankfully! Great cheesy meat, on fresh fantastic seeded bread, packaged in a box. That last part is important because not wrapping in foil means not steaming the bread, and making it a soggy mess. The bread is definitely no afterthought here. It's still crusty and stands out as an equal contributor to a great cheesesteak. You can make it hot, but I'd rather have it mild, this NYC summer is already having me reach for a lot of water. haha. The out of the blue rainstorm may have cleared the line some making my wait a very manageable 20 minutes from start to finish. Aside from the tight quarters inside, and the sneezy woman ahead of me on line who doesn't believe in not spreading germs, the experience was definitely worth it.
