Very cute cafe and as a big G-Dead family, we appreciate the dancing bears all over. The cafe is small but quaint, looks are deceiving though as there is extra space upstairs with tables and even outdoor seating for when the weather agrees. The coffee was flavorful and eclipses. Hubs and I shared some soup and a sandwich that were both delicious and brought to us upstairs. Overall it's a lovely spot to get cozy, and enjoy a drink and book! We'll be back for sure and I'll have to try some of the fresh loaves of bread next! read more

very quaint. We were greeted upon entering the cafe. The girl took our order and we sat in the courtyard behind the cafe. About 10 minutes later she brought us our sandwiches. I had their Philly Steak and my wife had their Curry Chicken sandwich. Both sandwiches were delicious!!! Looking forward to our next visit. read more

Dear Dancing Bear Cafe: welcome to Pawling! This is also a mourn letter to Pawling Bread co but a warm welcome to the new place that promises to give you all the things that make us happy: good coffee and good food. As a die hard fan of PBCo it's hard to not compare businesses so I invite you to please not do the same. Yes, we loved what we had while we had it and now during this new era we will show Pawling what Pawling is about. Supporting local (**always**). This new cafe guarantees to kinda make you instantly happy and dancy just by the very own name: Dancing Bear. A place where you can order coffee, bread, baked goods, sandwiches, provisions and more. By more, I mean you can even order beer and wine! They're open every single day of the week (so that for sure is a nice refreshing change) so any day of the week you'll be able to give them a try. When you walk in, it for sure has kept the aesthetics of the previous (and very much loved) biz. We love walking into the space that felt familiar while also having new welcoming friendly and happy faces. From the disco ball to the labor of love theme and pretty minimalist menu on the wall, it's sure kept the PBCo charm while introducing their own twist and take. Again, please don't come here with the mindset of getting something that used to be here. This place is local, it serves breakfast items and sandwiches, avocado and NUTELLA toasts (I'm coming for ya!), muffins, scones, bread and even gluten free options (with the udis bread and some baked goods). For sure a plus and plenty of alternatives for the vegetarian peeps. All in all, a great addition to the neighborhood. Cute coffee shop in downtown pawling ny. I actually saw a sign a mile away which lead me to find this gem. Now when you walk in there's a few menus and each kinda have their own focus which is a bit confusing. Definitely get a paper menu for the food options and look at the chalkboard for coffee flavorings. I enjoyed my black bear coffee but needed to ask for more mocha as it was imputed on my receipt as brown bear so I'm not even sure it was in the coffee. It was very good and I could have added some sugar but didn't feel like it. The smoothie was good, I ordered it with whole milk. I ordered three BEC's to-go which honestly took a very long time. So much that the smoothie basically melted while waiting. I wasn't expected it to come with a chipotle Mayo which was really good! I ate mine on a plain bagel but was hoping to get an everything bagel which they don't make but have a sourdough version? They have a pretty large selection of food and fun drinks so I'll have to try more items! read more

We wanted to try this out because the menu looked great and the prices seemed reasonable but unfortunately it was a train wreck from start to finish. We ordered downstairs but there was only one table so we walked upstairs where we could smell the stack of overflowing dirty dishes waiting to be carried downstairs. In fairness they were carried down over the course of three trips during our meal, but a tip for the owners - when most of your patrons have to eat upstairs, use lighter plates to give your staff a break on carrying them up/down. Maybe put a flop sink to store them out of sight - a dumb waiter would be better. The steak and eggs came out with fried eggs that were blackened from burnt grease. I would have wanted scrambled but wasn't asked. The steak was cooked fine but had no flavor. Two orders of chicken Caesar salad had shaved Parmesan that actually had some visible mold on it. Very little, but any mold is just bad. Our last meal was an omelette that was completely forgotten about. The rest of us finished our meals and the last person waited 5 more minutes before going to ask. It came up several minutes later without the water that was ordered. To top it off there were no napkins or condiments on the table which we had to wipe off with our hands. I almost felt bad for the girl that was taking orders and had to walk up and down but I didnt see so much as a smile the entire time for the 15% tip we left before knowing how bad it would be. I would have given 2 stars because the drinks were actually decent but overall, this experience wasn't close to worthy of the $100 we spent. There are limited options in Pawling so it's easy to get apathetic about quality and service but the name and menu are enticing - this place could be great if they just put more effort in. read more

This cafe is amazing and has vegan, gluten free options. They even have ice cream that special made with unique flavors, along with various items. Go to place when I. Town in addition to the local sunflower bakery. We love their salad and breakfast along with their cookies. Came in on a weekend expecting there to be a wait, what I want expecting was an eternity, and zero hospitality. No greeting, no eye contact, quite honestly felt like we had walked into a private event. I will never understand why ppl hire teenagers with not even an ounce of motivation. A snails pace would have been an improvement. After 15 minutes waiting on line with only two ppl ahead of us of which both had already ordered, I contemplated walking out. The drinks were above average i got a hot chocolate with caramel and my friend got the iced gingerbread latte.Would come again for the drinks.The server was nice but it the food wasn't that good for a total of about $70 and wait time was at least 35 minutes and my other friend didn't ever receive his water he ordered. This place should be named the snail cafe with how slow they are, it took around 40 min to get our food. The prices for drinks are also outrages, they charge 6.00 for a half size naked fruit drink which in the store cost around 1.50. the food is okay nothing special at all. the staff is very nice , the place is really cool but I won't be going back. read more

Finally bought sourdough bread here. Very disappointed. Crust chewy but inside was damp. On top of that, the damp loaf was placed in a plastic bag-- just the atmosphere for mold to grow. I don't know if the loaf was underbaked or just damp from a hot humid day. In either case this was bad, bad, bad! read more
