After our dinner at Travinia, I decided to give Dana's Cake Shoppe a try. The shop is small with a few tables for those who want to sit down and have their treats. The young woman working there was polite, patient and friendly. I looked at their selection of cupcakes and noticed some flavors were sold out. Finally, I decided to get one Boston cream pie cupcake and one caramel coffee cupcake. When we got home, we decided to try one of the cupcakes later in the evening. We agreed to share the Boston cream pie cupcake first. I cut it in half. We weren't impressed with this one. There was a small amount of custard in the cake part, while the top was dark chocolate frosting. We've had far better versions of this flavor cupcake in the past. The next night, we tried the caramel coffee one. It had a vanilla cake, which was on the dry side. However, the frosting was the star of the show. The coffee and the caramel flavors were noticeable. This cupcake was the better of the two. We don't regret trying the cupcakes... but... as to whether we would go again... well... the jury is still out. read more

This is my first time here. The interior is very picturesque, instagram-ready, etc.! The cake/cupcake display is so beautiful. They also had cakes displayed around the counter showing the exquisite decorations also to show that they take cake orders. I couldn't figure out which flavor to choose, and ended up with toffee caramel cupcake. I wish I had looked at the other flavors so I would've selected pistachio and lavender! The cupcake was okay, didn't taste very fresh and the frosting was a little hard. The cakes were definitely very pricey, so I was hesitant to get one before trying a cupcake. They had a good selection of drinks, so I chose a plain latte. They don't carry decaf espresso/coffee. They are on the same block/building as Altitude, so there is a parking garage around the corner, as well as some parking in the front of the storefronts. Would I return? It was definitely sweet and tasted good but just sweet, no flavor. The coconut and pistachio were the better ones. Lemon and red velvet just tasted like sweet buttercream, no flavor. Service was okay. One piece of advice. Even if you're busy handling other customers or making to go orders, at least give the person walking in a friendly hello and let them know the situation. Don't make them feel awkward for just coming in at a busy time. Also maybe should hire one other person for the front? One person takes orders and the other person makes them. Overall I probably wouldn't go back but I think if you just like sweet cupcakes, you'll probably be happy. read more

Dana's Cake Shoppe welcomes you immediately with a beautiful display of the prettiest baked goods. I came here with my sister and nephews on a Saturday afternoon and we ordered the snickerdoodle, funfetti, chocolate vanilla, and Oreo ice cream cupcake. The snickerdoodle was my favorite and had the best icing which I am normally not the biggest fan of. The Oreo ice cream cupcake was good but my least favorite and had a chocolate outer layer instead of the cupcake paper that was a bit over powering. I also got an iced americano but they unfortunately did not have any decaf options. All of the staff was really nice and when my nephew's seat fell over and he spilled his Rita's from next door, they kindly ran over and cleaned it right up. There are multiple tables to enjoy your treats at and they bring your order to your table for you. I will be back to try some other flavors and probably have to bring my nephew. His review was "that was the best cupcake I've ever had!" and he's usually not into cake! Dana's Cake Shoppe is a really cute spot for a sweet treat and added bonus is the kids playground right out in front with seats for the adults! read more

I've been in here a couple times to grab a little pick-me-up. The first time, I got a mango pineapple smoothie. The second time, I ordered a vanilla chocolate cupcake. I really liked the cupcake; it was just the perfect amount of sweetness. The cake part could be a little bit more moist, but it was okay. The mango pineapple smoothie was a tad too sweet for my taste, though. It was good, just a little too sweet for me. Presentation-wise, they're beautiful. Both times I stopped by, the staff were friendly and accommodating. They also offer recommendations on which flavors people seem to get the most. The vanilla chocolate cupcake was a recommendation because I was looking for the cupcake that is the least sweet. The shop is always sparkling clean every time I walk by and the couple times that I stopped by. It is also beautifully decorated. There are a handful of tables inside and what I assume to be where they conduct taste testing appointments are sectioned off. The shop is also located near a lot of other different shops and restaurants so it's very convenient. There's plenty of garage parking if the street parking is all taken. They are a little bit on a pricier side for cupcakes and portion-wise. It is $4.00 per normal-sized cupcake. I would return to try other pastries and provide additional or updated feedback if my opinion changes! read more

If I'm being honest, the cupcakes themselves I rate a 2.5 sadly buttttttt I will bump up half a star and give an overall rating of 3 stars to this place just because the shop itself is so stunningly beautiful, clean and tidy and so vibey and Instagrammable - like you stepped into a magazine spread - that it's hard not to recognize the place for that. But the cupcakes themselves leave a lot to be desired (though definitely fixable with a little tweaking - but honestly, will this place make tweaks based on ONE Yelper's review lol?! I'm not jaded enough to think they will. Kkkkkkk). Read on for what I think needs tweaking... I happened to be at the Village at Leesburg and though I didn't **need** to buy cupcakes, how could I resist getting something after peering in and laying eyes on the display case of beautifully lined cupcakes?! Besides, any time I can score points with the fam by bringing home some delicious treats, why not amiright? It was a weekday, late afternoon and a beautiful gorgeous sunshine-no-clouds day - I can't imagine this shop wouldn't be packed on a beautiful weekend day filled with shoppers and their kids. Kid/s-in-a-candy-store vibe for sure! For me, though, the place was empty. No line. #hype I bought 4 cupcakes to go - 2 Coconut, 1 Pistachio and 1 Boston Crème which was an interesting and intriguing flavor that I had to get (for the son who is a BC freak). $4 a piece. I mean....cant argue with the price, that's probably the minimum you can sell something like that for in a primo location like this. The cupcakes were not oversized though - regular cupcake size that you would Betty Crocker-box-mix bake at home. The cupcakes and baked goods are all made there, fresh right in the back so kudos to that. Taste: I WANTED to like them. Coconut and Pistachio: the frosting for both was sooooooo sweet. Too sweet. See my pics - the frosting is beautifully and generously dolloped on top of each cupcake and I didn't mind that at all butttttttttt the frosting was just disproportionately tooooo much and tooo overpowering for how little the cake part of the cupcake was! Reminded me of the sickly sweet frosting that you find on grocery store cakes. The Pistachio cupcake's frosting had a slight citrus-y flavor to it but, like I said, it was just too sickly sweet that it way overpowered the cake itself. And, although it was the classic green in color, the pistachio cake itself had barely any pistachio flavor to it which was a huge disappointment. In fact, the teeny tiny pistachio nut on top of the cupcake had more pistachio flavor than the cake itself! The coconut flakes on top of the coconut cupcake helped tone the sweetness of the frosting down but not enough to neutralize how sweet the frosting was. The cake was a vanilla cake, moist and flavorful which I did like. The Boston Crème cupcake was decent. Smaller in size than the other cupcakes but I liked how the combo of flavors created a classic Boston Crème taste in a cupcake version. Sorry to say, I won't be back, even for a $4 housemade cupcake because of the frosting. Easy tweak though - imo Dana's cupcakes would be amazing with a less sweet frosting - like a classic cream cheese based one. Again, just one Yelper's opinion..... read more

We got our 2 layered wedding cake from Dana. We were happy with the taste, and our guests all went back for seconds. It was so good there was none left at the end of the night. Actually a 3.75. I like that there were so many flavors like pistachio, lavender and almond. I chose the snickerdoodle because I was hoping it would be as good as the one at Nothing Bundt Cakes. These are some of the best cupcakes I've tried. I really enjoyed the natural flavors (strawberry, lemon, vanilla, almond) of the cupcakes and frosting. I stopped by this bakery tonight to try out a few desserts with family. Let me start with the high notes. 1. Strawberries and cream choux was delicious, will be having again. Not too sweet and pastry was just right, light airy and with a little chewiness. 2. The red velvet cake was moist and flavorful. The cream cheese icing was delicious and light, again not too sweet and perfect consistency. Now, as far as the cupcakes go, the icing is good and the cake itself is moist. However, to call each cupcake a different flavor is misleading. You can have a vanilla or chocolate cupcake with different toppings but they all taste like chocolate or vanilla. I ordered coconut, chocolate, toffee, and s'mores. All tasted like vanilla/chocolate. The cake is the same, icing is the same, but fun toppings were added. Pricing was a tad high in my opinion. $4 per cupcake (normal size cupcake), $7 for choux, and $7 for slice of cake. I will be returning as I was very impressed with this bakery, however I will be avoiding the cupcakes and going straight for slices of cake/pastry. I would also like to see pricing come down some as I think it is a tad high. Recommend trying this bakery out! read more

They're good but not as great as the reviews, in my opinion. I actually wanted the Mochi donuts but they weren't open yet so I decided to give this little bakery a try. The staff that helped me was very friendly and engaging, which was a nice surprise because high-end bakeries tend to act like you're bothering them when you come in to order just a cupcake or slice of something. It's such a pretty store and really laid out nicely to market their baked goods. However, I got sticker shock when I ordered two small cupcakes and a cheesecake. It was almost $18. I still don't know what each item cost but that's ridiculous. I enjoyed them but I'd never pay that price again. I'll keep them in mind if I need a cake or multiple cupcakes which may justify the pricing for larger quantities. read more

I bought a couple of cupcakes after being told they were baked the same day. The icing was fabulous but the cake portion was dry and had a texture like it was several days old. Thinking back on it, I went in at 11 am and it was implausible that the entire case of cupcakes were all baked that day. So I should have known better. Also, the Oreo cupcake was made of a slightly bitter chocolate cake. At any rate, because the icing is so good, I'll give it one more try. read more

Absolutely loved working with Dana to create the perfect selection of sweets for my engagement party. Dana is very creative and her work is amazing. From flavor to aesthetics she really wowed us and all of our guests. I ordered a 2 tier cake and it was very fresh and delicious. The top tier was a lemon cake with strawberry icing and the bottom tier was a coconut cake with fresh pineapple. I also ordered chocolate covered strawberries and a variety of macarons. Saying that we have been here twice in four days should be a good indicator that we have enjoyed the majority of what we had there. Since it's fall they have a wide variety pumpkin items for pumpkin fans. You will find cupcakes, cookies, macaroons, cheesecake, mousse cake, croissants, marzipans and so much more! What we have tried- pumpkin spice cupcake, double chocolate cupcake, Oreo cupcake, chocolate mousse cake, hazelnut mousse cake, pumpkin cheesecake, and whites chocolate raspberry cheesecake. We really have not enjoyed the cupcakes. The cake part itself is average. The main drawback is the icing. It is always very thick and hard. The hazelnut mousse cake is perfection. The taste is rich yet not overpowering. There is a tiny crunch that is just perfect. I almost feel like the chocolate sprinkles on the outside are not necessary but it is so good I just eat it. The chocolate mousse is death by chocolate on a plate. You want chocolate, you have it all right here in this one package. You will not need any other chocolate after eating this. White chocolate raspberry cheesecake is very dense. It does not have that tang you get if you've had a traditional NY one. The raspberry is so slight it's almost as if it is not there. The pumpkin cheesecake made my husband escape to nirvana. The nuts on top really sets this apart from all the other pumpkins out there. I recommend you try the mousses, you will not go wrong. We were shopping at a nearby store in the Villages of Leesburg and decided to give this bakery a try. Definitely glad we did! We bought a few goodies, Macarons, Cookies, a slice of lemon cake, and a pastry. Overall we loved everything except the macarons, (a little dry and not as flavorful as some other bakeries), but will definitely go back.
