Wow this place has some great soft serve! The consistency is thick but also airy and light at the same time. I got the black raspberry with sprinkles (4/5) and my sister got the black raspberry vanilla twist with cookie dough (5/5!!). The black raspberry flavor was sweet with a hint of tartness. It tasted like the fruit and was very good. However, after trying my sister's I prefer the black raspberry with the vanilla twist as it gave it more sweetness and the vanilla complements the tartness of the black raspberry very well. I also recommend to get the cookie dough topping for $1 extra as they gave a huge portion on top of the cone AND a second scoop in the middle of the cone. The cookie dough was delicious and filled with mini chocolate chips. The sprinkles topping is 77 cents but cookie dough all the way. I'd love to come back here to try their different flavors! read more

You can tell this place is a neighborhood staple with how busy it is, and WELL worth the wait. Ice cream was really good, there's a lot of creative menu choices and customizations. They've done a great job revitalizing the small town of historic Leesburg. Great addition as finding soft serve ice cream in the area is difficult. Friendly staff and a ton of options. This is a classic spot! Very good soft serve and unique ice cream combos/sundaes. If you have kids, get a small - the portions are pretty huge! And for a large/medium can be upwards of $7 or $8. Pretty long line, but it went fast. Service was quick and efficient and friendly. I got the chocolate waffle mixed with a little bit of raspberry soft serve. It was delicious. We went to Gruto's for the first time on a very, very cold day in December, so didn't have to deal with a line! I'm a huge soft serve fan and have been on the hunt for a local ice cream shop with good soft serve. Gruto's is in downtown Leesburg and has raspberry, vanilla, raspberry vanilla twist, chocolate, banana, chocolate banana twist, and a variety of other treats. My husband and I split a raspberry cyclone, which is like a DQ Blizzard, with brownie and raspberry soft serve. The brownie bites were big and moist and had chocolate chips in them! If you like soft serve, this is your place. Many flavor choices and various serving types (cone, cup, etc.). Limited space indoors leaves only a bench out front and three chairs on the side for seating. There is a park with shade and benches down the street near the bike trail. read more

Some of the best soft serve ice cream in downtown Leesburg is at Gruto's Soft Serve on King Street. They have delicious cones, sundaes, and milkshakes. When I went there was only one person behind the counter, but he was quick to get our orders down and out to us, he also told everyone goodbye by saying "see you tomorrow", I thought it was sweet. There isn't much seating here and there are no tables, so I'd recommend planning to take the ice cream to go. Check them out next time you're craving something sweet! read more

If you love soft serve Gruto's has some of the best in the area - and there are so many options! It's hard to decide what to have. Today I went with a s'mores sundae topped off with graham cracker crumbles but you can have pretty much any kind of candy, fruit or other topping combination that you can think of. There's no indoor dining, strictly take away. Social distancing is still in place and it's a small shop so there may be a brief wait outside. The wait is made up for by the swift and friendly servers who seem to enjoy their jobs serving up the sweet stuff for their customers. There's a small parking lot directly behind the shop accessed via a very narrow driveway at the left side of the building so keep a sharp eye out or you'll miss it. There is some street parking but it's a busy street. This is just a great homey ice cream place and worth a visit for a cool and tasty treat - highly recommend. read more

I have been to Gruto's multiple times but tonight I was very disappointed. I went in with my family for ice cream today and ordered a cup of ice cream with marshmallow sauce, after, family and plenty of other customers had already gotten their ice cream before mine. I am not normally a soft-serve ice cream person. I usually prefer gelato, but I decided to give this place a shot. What really won me over was the shear size of the cookie dough balls! There is nothing worse than ordering cookie dough and getting a few, sad, anemic dough balls. Gruto does not make this mistake. As you can see from the picture, they were huge. I was a very happy camper. There is not any seating indoors, but there are a good number of chairs outside to sit in. You're also in the heart of downtown Leesburg, so it's a good place to stroll with your ice cream. This place is definitely pricey, but that seems to have become the norm for ice cream these days. Randomly we found Gruto's Soft Serve because my kids want some ice cream. We stopped and we love the tiny shop full of people and kids. I was not expecting anything than the usual ice cream shops, but the lady who was alone was doing a great job. Very busy, but she had a great attitude. As a local, this is where the family goes for ice cream. Always great service but can be crowded. Not many places to sit inside so be prepared to walk and eat. There are a lot of seating places within a short walk next to the W&OD trail. Lots of good combinations and have tried a bunch and all are good. read more

Cool little soft serve place that kinda reminded me of cold stone with how you could add "mix ins" to various flavors of soft serve ice cream. My boys and I went with a snickers sundae, peanut butter cup sundae and an Oreo shake. Everyone was very happy with their selections. The girls working there were friendly and pleasant. Being the ice cream expert that I am this place hits the mark! Ok I'm kidding, I'm no expert but I do love ice cream and I am picky. I got the Rasberry and Vanilla twist. Yes.... I could polish of ten of these! Forget sweet frog, that stuff is funky! This place seems to have high quality soft serve ice cream. I'm definitely going back here for more! Gruto's started in Purcellville, VA in 2007, and was purchased by the current owners, the Wilsons in 2015. They have worked to expand the business with extended hours and a longer "season." The Leesburg location was opened in 2018, and the Wilson's plan to continue growing Gruto's and sharing the fun!

They had a perfectly crunchy top and a moist, fluffy inside. Truly outstanding! Drinks (5/5): I ordered a lavender latte, and it was perfectly balanced! It paired really well with the strawberry muffin. Ambiance (5/5): The café is tucked down a little corridor that opens into a charming patio-style seating area. The main shop is small to allow space for a large kitchen. Inside, there's a cute table with knickknacks for sale and a counter where you place your order. A glass display case shows off all the baked goods. The bathrooms were spotless and even had free feminine products, which was a thoughtful touch. Service (5/5): The service was warm and friendly. The staff member talked to us like a friend and was quick with the order.

It was crowded at lunch time, some inside seating, looked like more outside. Parking is in a lot nearby but can fill up. Plenty of drinks and such. Kind of an ordinary deli with comparatively good prices for adult meals when held up against other places in the area.

I tried the Bless Your Heart and my husband got the country fried steak biscuit sandwich. Surprisingly the mac n cheese on the bless your heart was so fresh and delicious. You can taste that everything was made fresh using great quality ingredients. Truly great place to eat, I can't wait to come back.

The only downside is their hours are pretty limited, so you have to get there while you can. The dishes are upscale versions of classics. "Upscale" may be the wrong word, because it implies "fancy". Rather, think of what happens when chef takes on what should be a simple meal like 'biscuits' and makes it their own. I originally just wanted to try those biscuits, but when I saw those fried green tomatoes, those had to be on my list as well. The biggest challenge is what to order. I've had their 'cathead biscuit' before, but went their namesake dish instead. Next time will be their chicken sandwich.

It took 10 mins for anyone to come see us. I had to get up to ask for someone to get our orders. To boot, the person who was supposed to assist us, was in the back hall by the restrooms texting and hanging out. I assume no one told her that we were there. The cider I ordered was warm, so I had to ask for a cup of ice at the bar. My husband's burger was meant to be medium well and it was raw. Lastly, it's extremely loud in that room. The chairs are metal, and when drug against the flooring, they make an awful sound! They really need a form of rubber on the legs. Very hard for grandma, who has hearing aids. Poor thing was so uncomfortable. The room next to us, with a door leading to the window to the kitchen, was so incredibly annoying. They were pounding the entire time we were seated, and it was LOUD! We all just sat completely silent. This was an incredibly disappointing visit and we will not come back.
