Going into Dana Point Hardware is like stepping back in time. The feel of the store and the service is reminiscent of how hardware stores used to be. Most of what you need and not a lot of junk to wade through. It can't compete with the big box stores but do you really want it to? I want someone who knows what they're talking about and cares enough to help me solve my hardware challenges. DPH does this in spades. I was out in the area with a friend and was on a job. I asked him we're there was a home depot in the area and all he could do was laugh. I have unfortunately become so used to trying to find all my items at large stores and with the lost of so many mom pop sops going away so fast I was at a lost when he told me of this place. Thank you Lord that small places like this still exist. I know for a fact that at a large store it would take a lot of time to find the few things I needed but here I walk in and bam everything I need at a arms links thank you so much and I hope you guys get to keep up the great work and never fall to the overpriced super stores that are trying to take you out. I felt like a kid that had gone in to every garage of all my friends growing up. Rows and rows of nothing but nut bolts and anything else you could look for. I went here on the recommendation of my dad who'd had great experiences here. I needed to complete a simple wood staining project very quickly but I'd never done such a thing before and had no idea what I was doing. I was in and out within 5 minutes thanks to the extremely helpful and kind women who were working. They advised me which things I probably wouldn't need for the project and they were right. (Always a good feeling when someone selling you something tells you what you DON'T need.) Also feels great to support local businesses, as I own one myself just down the street from this location! Have supported this local hardware store for years but no more. They recently somehow survived the pandemic years which is great and moved to a bigger space next door. Unfortunately they must have left the decent longtime staff behind. Store is very disorganized and many barren shelves. When I entered the two staff just stood there from the back by the register and were too lazy to move to see what I needed. Finally one shouted what do you want! I was directed to an isle for simply xmas lights which any hardware store should have an abundance of choices this time of year. Well not here! Staff still didn't move to help and one simply went to the back room. They could have cared less wther their only customer found what they needed! They had a few boxes on a basically empty shelf. The time has come to give it up as your not serving the DP community any more and the space could be better utilized to enhance the downtown revitalization which will hopefully happen soon. read more

I've got a Gal. The common expression is "I've got a Guy" when someone needs a connection or help with a job. Well, if you are in need of great advice and a place where you will find what you need for your household chores (for fix it) items than Dana Point Hardware is your go to place and the ladies who work there (I have only been there a few times at this writing and have been helped by women) are your "Gals". I recently moved in the area and had Best Buy deliver a gas dryer to my new place and install it. The installer says he can't hook up the dryer as the connection gas line is larger (5/8") than the gas line hookup from the wall. He says I have to remove the current connection and install a 5/8" hookup or get an adapter to fit the gas line. I ask a friend of min about this and he says let's go to Dana Point Hardware and see what they say...he has been going there since the 70's. So we walk in and he says hello to lady behind the counter who he has seen grow up in the store working for her dad and now is the owner. I explain the problem that I have this 5/8" gas connection hose and need somehow to connect it to my dryer. First thing she says is home as dryers are 3/8". Gets me the correct size yellow gas hose connection and tells me to go connect it and return the 5/8th one to Best Buy with the added "they must think you are connecting a commercial gas range". Worked like a charm!! The next day I go in to replace some screws that were lost in the move that attach an arm to a chair. I roughly measure the opening and go down to Dana Point hardware. Another women this time helps me and gives me both in metric and standard in fine and regular thread and tells me to bring back the ones that did not work. Again such great help and yes one of the selections of course worked. Well, if you need expert advice in hardware, fixing an issue at your home, or finding that hard to find item the "I've got a Gal for you" the ladies at Dana Point Hardware. read more

I've been to this hardware store a million times over the years and all but a couple of times they couldn't help me. I had no idea someone could Re thread a metal piece and the man helped me out! Another time I needed help with a project and he told me to try another place close by who could fix a metal handle permanently. It was fixed Just like he said. These are good people with a family business. Anyone who can't see that must be blind. This place has saved me so much headache, I can find little hardware pieces that I couldn't ever find at Home Depo or Lowe's. I was shorted hardware on a DIY lawn chair, these guys Figured out what I could use so I didn't have to wait with a half assembled chair. I really wish I loved this hardware store because it's local and family owned. Whenever I go in there my experience seems to be that the staff are not really friendly or helpful. They're standing behind the counter and just kind of hanging back. They are very brusque. This is the second locally owned hardware store in Orange County that I've encountered the same lack of customer service. That store went out of business In sorry to say. Lost my spare car key and was successful in getting a new one with proper codes. The service was great and the price was right also.

I came into the store with two screens to be re-screened as I have done in the past. In the past, I had been told that there is only one man who re-screens and he comes in on certain Saturdays. So I left the screen, having paid for it and waited for them to call when ready. This time as I entered, the woman behind the counter immediately said, "Bring them back on a certain date. And ONLY on that day." She was abrupt and not very friendly. I walked out and found a different source for the repair. I will not be going back. read more

Great local hardware store. Wide aisles and the store goes on and on forever. I just moved into the area and needed a specific water filter for my new fridge - yup, they had it. Not only did they have it in stock, but they put it aside for me (it was waiting at the register up front when I walked in the door) and their prices were comparable to pricing online at discount houses! Love the fact you carry taps and drill bits in all sizes. This in itself makes me happy. Lowe's and Home Depot don't have this and as much as I go there it frustrates me big box stores have crappy tools and unorganized parts.
