I love going into this shop, in a way it feels like stepping back into the 1980s-or maybe even earlier. The old-timey feel and staff of the place makes it welcoming and the staff are super helpful for finding stuff. I went in the other day just to find some tiny screws, and they have a huge selection-better than Home Depot, and you can get someone who actually knows what they're talking about to help you find some random screws that cost $0.26 cents each. Where do you get that kind of service nowadays? The shelves are packed with just about everything you need for any kind of small or medium project around the house. Hope you stay in business forever! read more

I've been coming here to have keys cut for my business for a year now and the service is lacking, to put it lightly. The gal working the counter is curt and not very helpful. Expect to wait about ten minutes for someone to hopefully show up and cut keys, then give up and track someone down yourself. There are old workers milling around the store doing inventory and chatting, but none of them have time to help cut some keys? Look, I get it, cutting keys by hand is tedious, time consuming, and probably annoying. But telling a customer that "it's a lot of work, I can do it later" is not a good way to run a business and retain a customer. I'm happy to drive a little further to find someplace that's more willing to help. read more

Everyone in the store is nice and professional and very knowledgeable. They always have what I need when I need it. I like to fix things myself and anyone and everyone in the store has helped me with my questions when I needed the answers SHOP LOCAL read more

This place never fails to have what I'm looking for, and the service is amazing. EVERY ONE there knows where everything is and they can even advice you on how to best complete your project. It always has what I'm looking for. Often times it has what I didn't even know that I needed. It's got a great little home decor/gift shop section as well. Prices run a little higher but it's worth NOT having to go to Home Depot and leaving with only 1 of 3 items you needed and having to run to Denaults afterwards anyway. I love Denaults. They also can replace/remake your broken screens (which I've had done and was completely happy with). They cut keys for you....you know you need to go have that done - take them to Denaults! The people who work there are EXTREMELY helpful. Best little hardware store around. read more

I evacuated from the wildfires in Los Angeles and am staying in SJC. I called this store to ask if they could donate any masks for me to distribute to people impacted by the wildfires when I return home. The owner was very rude over the phone, refusing to donate a single mask, which is worth about 50 cents. He promptly hung up on me after saying no. The previous employee I spoke with mentioned that masks were flying off the shelves. This leads me to believe that the owner is far more interested in making a profit than helping the countless people who have lost their every belonging. Please keep this in mind when considering shopping here. read more

I needed rope for my flag pole, this was a job my dad used to do all the time. Unfortunately, he passed away last year. I asked one of the store "experts" for help and some advise as to how do you change the rope. His answer to me was " don't you have a man to help you ?" My answer was no I don't and he said well then just google it and walked away! I guess I must look like I'm too stupid to change a rope on the flag pole by myself. read more

Denault's Ace Hardware - Job done! No men were used or harmed in the hanging of this flag 100% girl power - Hardware Stores Near Me - San Juan Capistrano, California

I had a problem with moth traps I bought here. Two of the store assistants worked through the problem with me and came to a happy, effective solution. Great staff! read more

Since we don't have a Home Depot or Lowe's in town, this is our only option. While the store is smaller, it is well stocked and the service is wonderful. Plenty of parking and never too busy, the lines move quickly and the prices are comparable with other stores. read more

This place has EVERYTHING! I haven't stumped the team yet with my crazy questions and specific needs for my home. They have never let me down. read more

The real value here is the knowledgeable and available staff. Its great to be able to go in with a problem and have an expert be able to tell me how to solve it and what I need to buy. For my limited requirements (general house handyman stuff) this fits perfectly. Unlike the big box stores, there is always someone available. When needed they will find the right person (expert) to give me the information I need. Unlike the big box stores the person actually knows what they are talking about. The people who work here are extremely knowledgeable. Thanks to them: 1. My drains remain clear (even in my daughters shower) 2. I have the right lightbulbs in each room (I got a 30 minute detailed lecture) 3. Anything hanging on my walls can handle the weight correctly. 4. My paint matches when I touch up. 5. My tool bag has the right tools in it. 6. I have the right tool bag. 7. My showers are free of lime, hardwater and rust 8. My car leather looks awesome. I could go on but you get the point. The selection is clearly smaller than some other stores. But I go here to get 'help' and not just to buy things. For someone like me this place is perfect. read more

Denault's Ace Hardware - Hardware Stores Near Me - San Juan Capistrano, California

Abruptly stopped taking propane cylinders without explanation. Will no longer be a customer here.

I love this store. They have EVERYTHING you'd ever need and are very knowledgeable. My first choice of hardware stores.

Being a local, I always make it a point to try Denault's first before heading to a larger chain store. This morning I attempted to get help from an employee in the garden section who was not very helpful. Off to Home Depot and I think I'll skip Denault's in the future. read more

My go to place for all hardware needs. Try to stay away from the big stores if I can. DeNault's always has more than enough people available to help and prices are very good. No searching for help and they have great selections for whatever you may need. read more

My favorite hardware store ever. They have this rare quality that the big boys don't have a clue about: helpful employees. Also service. I miss shopping here. Fontana can't duplicate DeNault's. read more

The service is always outstanding. When you go to one of the big home improvement stores if they see you coming toward them the sales associates usually turn and walk away. If you do get someone to help you they are many times not very knowledgeable. At Denault the service is always outstanding and they are very knowledgeable. read more

Cannot begin to tell you the amount of genuine help and knowledge that come from every employee at this DeNault's, in particular, where I live in San Juan Capistrano. Every member of the staff there, has gone out of their way for me one time, at least. They've always had what I have gone there looking for and then everything that I have not needed at the same time! read more

I have had terrific experiences at Denaults in San Juan Capistrano. Nestor, One of the Denault's employees reworked a table lamp so that it became a 3 way lamp. It involved cutting a stem snd removing the old mechanism to replace it with the new mechanism. I was really impressed with his knowledge of lamps and his willingness to help me save the lamp! read more

I was given a last minute task to complete, basically I had to complete in less than 35 min here in town. I needed direction as to what I needed, DeNault's rock. Clarissa and Megan are the absolute Best... I didn't even finish my sentence and they walked me to where and pointed out exactly what I was looking for and thanks to them I completed my task with time to spare. Again Clarissa and Megan THANK YOU SOOO MUCH. Your both are Appreciated. Stay Blessed read more

I have been going to Denaults in SJC for almost 20 years. Good selection of most hardware and other items to save a trip to a Big Box retailer 10 miles away. The staff is very helpful and pretty creative when you need to find or fix something. The front desk cashiers are great, especially Patti. PS their knife sharpening service on Wednesdays are great. We have been taking our knives to Denaults for about 10 years and their sharpening person is a pro. read more

The staff is what makes this place so great. They are very knowledgeable and can help you with your questions, offer suggestions, and help you find exactly what you need. Shopped here for years and years. This store has been here since I've lived in the United States. This place, in my opinion is the my favorite hardware store. It's a San Juan Capistrano gem that CAN'T be replaced with a big box store. The staff are so friendly. My mom ordered a lot of soil, rocks, and other supplies from them and the manager has really helped her out with delivery and so forth. This store seems to have everything you need. read more

These guys are my hero's! Fast friendly service is almost like having your own personal shopping concierge! Many of the employees are highly educated - retired aerospace engineers & the like - all with small town friendly practical advise! Great selection - and you can be in and out of the store in 5 minutes flat with advise and the item you need! They're happy to special order that rarefied item, and have the patience of a saint! We believe in supporting local small businesses and Denault's is a great reason to shop local! With endless gratitude for all you guys do! read more

This hardware store always amazes me, came here looking for a fuse for my fan, it was a small fuse kind of like the ones for Christmas lights. I didn't think they would have any or would know what I was talking about, but as soon as I said what I was looking for they knew right away what it was. They pointed me in the right direction and showed me where they were and explained the difference between the different sizes. I was very surprised to see that they knew all that and even more surprised that they had them in stock and not in a big case but I had the option of getting any amount I needed. The best part was they were only .85 cents each!!! It can't get any better than that. I definitely recommend this place to anyone and will definitely be back for more items. Thanks guys!!!!!! read more

This place is amazing! Not because their selection is the most vast but because the people that work there are AWESOME! They go above and beyond to be helpful. I've gone there at least a dozen times with something broken from my house and they've not only found the exact same product but also told me how to install it every time! They're absolutely amazing! I'd recommend them over any other hardware store. read more

This place is great! I just started coming here since i just moved into town. They are super helpful and the store as small as it it has tons of stuff. This is the place you come to when the big hardware stores don't carry that little random piece you need for a house project and when you need good advice from someone with actual experience in house repairs. I used to LOVE Ace Hardware in HB. Shopped there 2-3 times a week cuz thier items were so fun. Moved to DP and figured I would love this store, too. The staff are great, with the exception of one elderly checkout clerk. Every time I would get stuck in her line she would ask me for a photo ID to use my credit card. I found this insulting so I kept going there but would avoid her line. One day I purchased a plastic box container, very narrow, took it home but it was too wide for the spot on my fence, so I returned the next day to return it. The Manager then, a middle aged Hispanic man, was nothing short of rude to me and demanded the receipt. I explained that I had purchased it on my credit card and they should have record of it. He seemed to be looking at me very suspiciously, I felt, He refused to refund or credit my card and forced me to take a "gift card" for the refund. I will now never shop at this place ever, and I was hoping to make it my regular stop. As a homeowner here in DP, I now will drive to WM or Lowes in SC instead. read more

We've been coming here since moving to SC 12 years ago. A great diversity of materials, even though it's a lot smaller than Home Depot or Lowes. But it's the personnel who make all the difference and keep us coming back. These guys are long-timers, extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. Mike, Carl and the others are to be trusted. read more

They price is higher than home depot - but if you need excellent service and help this is the place to go. If you know what you want and need then perhaps a trip to Home Depot will save you , but, if you have questions - bar none this is the place. You are asked at about every aisle or other aisale - have you been helped by somebody. Quick and easy - in and out - great service. They have been here for a really long time! read more

I went in to return something with a clerk (he was bald and has an Australian accent I believe ) who had helped me before and they didn't fit in my house. He started RANTING saying he's never met me before and didn't help me which isn't the point. Then he laughed in my face and said "what kind of stupid people are you hiring? What kind of stupid house do you have?" I could believe how unstable he was acting it was bizarre. He has to be under the influence of something because his reaction was NOT normal. He also told me I place the fire alarms on top of the ones I have. Which was a complete guy. My handy man told me I need to screw them into the wall and they wouldn't fit in the places I needed to attach them to. I was so scared and creeped out by him I didn't even put my address or phone number because I was honestly so scared to even come in contact with this freak. Management needs to address this with him ASAP before he scares other customers. I'll never go back here again. read more
