Attn Readers: This is an update to my original 10/12/2022 review (below). You have a right to read truthful, honest reviews of experiences with merchants on Yelp, both as a consumer & in the spirit of community, and to be notified of shady merchants especially if they are NOTHING like their 5-star reviews. Dan With Van is a deceptive merchant, and the worst liar I have ever encountered. After receiving my 1-star review Dan messaged me privately, trying to get me to remove it which I refused, as it was a truthful account & I wanted to warn other customers of his bait-$-switch tactics. It is absolutely OUTRAGEOUS that Dan has written the bold-faced lie in his response that I didn't "PAY ANYTHING" when I gave him a $50 cash tip!!! Dan, being true to his deceptive ways, obviously decided to take matters into his own hands when I refused to remove my review, by writing his outright lies in response. To address the lies in his response: 1) The move did NOT "go perfectly well" & he demanded I pay $50 more than quoted. To start, on Dan's arrival, because I am honest, I remarked I had 19 boxes total, not 15 as originally estimated; it was not "30% 50% more". Dan immediately pulled out a paper of his "Terms", pressuring & DEMANDING I pay him $50 extra, COMPLAINING he has to walk up 4 flights of stairs, when "I am an older man" (his words). Seriously, if you're a mover and you're complaining about 4 flights of stairs , should you continue being in this business? But because I am a nice person & felt sorry for him, & I also didn't want the hassle of cancelling/trying to get my $50 deposit back (which he probably would've refused to return) and he was already there & I had other appointments that day, I decided to just deal with it & very sweetly handed him $50 cash telling him I was going to tip him anyway (for which he never even said "Thank you", in his unsmiling, grumpy manner. ) Note, his previous 5-star reviews, if they're even real, were from MANY years ago, his most recent reviews are negative 1 STAR, for good reason. 2) It is a completely OUTRAGEOUS, BOLD-FACED LIE for him to write I did not "PAY ANYTHING" after I handed over an extra $50 in cash, and I will be complaining to Yelp. 3) So here in his response, he now admits I gave him a $50 CASH TIP which is how he accepted it, so clearly, he is completely confused. The $50 cash tip was generously given to him to do the job, not because I was "not going to accompany him to the delivery site where my husband was". 4) My husband called me startled by Dan's unprofessional behavior when Dan 1)refused to allow me to pay via Venmo after I got out of the subway, 2) THREATENING NOT TO LEAVE OR BRING UP THE LAST BOX. My husband is smart & dealt with Dan by having him bring up another box if he paid himself through Zelle. RECOMMENDATION: SAVE YOURSELF THE BAIT&SWITCH, LIES, THREATS & AGGRAVATION. DO NOT HIRE DAN!!! You wrote a review for Dan With Van 3 weeks ago 1.0 star rating10/12/2022 I hired Dan based on the 5-star reviews on Yelp and paid a deposit. He was responsive to texts and showed up on time. Other than that, he was nothing like reviewers glowingly described in 5-star reviews, and certainly did not have a "smile on his face the whole time" as one reviewer wrote; in fact he was downright unfriendly & only cared about getting more money. I had estimated about 15 medium-size boxes when he had given his quote of $210 for the move from Brooklyn to Manhattan but had 19 boxes; the minute he arrived, he did the usual mover's bait & switch & pushed for more money due to the 4 extra boxes, pulling out his text message that stipulated his quote was "conditional" & demanded $50 more, complaining it was to a 4th floor walk-up. Moving is stressful, and I really hate when movers pull this stunt. I would have cancelled him on the spot and looking back I should have the minute he arrived and pulled this, however I'm a nice person, he probably would have hassled me about keeping the deposit & I had intended to tip anyway so I just paid the extra $50 he demanded & to get the job done. Plus I could see Dan & the guy he arrived with are older men & a 4th-floor walk up was strenuous for them. When they arrived at the destination, Dan texted me he wanted the remaining balance of payment immediately (I was on the subway so said I would Venmo the rest of the payment later in the afternoon when I got out of the subway into better Wifi). Apparently this was not acceptable to Dan who wanted the money immediately as my husband told me Dan threatened not to unload all my things or leave unless the balance was paid. So my husband had to pay him through Zelle. Overall, I will never hire Dan ever again and definitely do not recommend him. This was my true experience, he is nothing like the 5-star reviews written for him , I am giving 1 star based on my unpleasant experience overall. read more

Does not do appliances. I don't know what kind of mover this is. I always thought a moving job was a moving job

Dan did an amazing job in moving a dining table for me. He was punctual, extremely organized and replied very promptly to texts and answered any questions I had. The booking process was very easy and streamlined as well. In addition, he packed and moved the table very safely and professionally. I was moving from NJ to Queens and needed help. Dan went out of his way (literally and figuratively) to make it happen. He loaded up his van and my car so quickly, I almost wasn't ready to leave! Haha! Unloading everything was just as quick, and everything arrived in perfect condition. On top of all that, Dan is courteous and professional, AND the price was right. read more

It is hard to find a moving service that simultaneously offers friendly, efficient, and professional service at a reasonable price but, Dan fits all four criteria! Prior to the move, we discussed and then confirmed all of the details up front and the morning of moving day everything fell into place due to his professionalism and friendly personality. (I moved from Long Island in Nassau County to the Upper West side of Manhattan). He was prompt, and quickly loaded all of my boxes. Furthermore, he was careful, and did so strategically without throwing my possessions around. The lack of seats in the back provides ample space. Once we arrived, I was a tad bit nervous that the asking price would change once the move was complete, but it remained the same as discussed. Honesty is important. His hefty tip was well deserved. Wow...talk about fast..I needed a truck to move a clients belongings on a Saturday..so called. I literally called at 10 am and they were at the apt by 2 pm. Used them 3 times already, and overtime..fast, efficient, friendly, responsible, and amazing prices!! read more

Dan helped me with a small office move from Brooklyn to Midtown. I had a bunch of computers and monitors which he handled with great care. He was right on time, took his time to help me move stuff to and from the van (on a sweltering July day), and was an all around nice guy. He breaks the "cheap, fast, good...choose two" rule by managing to be all three. read more

Dan was terrific. I had a very odd, small manual labor job, and couldn't find a moving company willing to do it for less than $100. Called Dan and he came the same day. He was very nice, professional, and charged a totally reasonable amount. Would recommend without hesitation! read more

I texted a few ads I saw on Craigslist and Dan called me right away for a very last min move. He didn't have a 2 hr minimum and gave me a great price. He even helped take my bed apart and back together (which wasn't in the initial deal)! Nice guy and reliable. read more

Dan is the best! I needed one table moved within a 10 block distance- sounds simple enough, right? The simple move turned out to be a nightmare when we couldn't fit the table through our apartment building entrance. But Dan was savvy and prepared with emergencies like this, and had tools to disassemble the table. Not only did he have the tools, he actually took off the table legs himself without a hint of annoyance. He was so kind and pleasant the entire time. Did I mention it was also a last minute request? Although I called the day of, he fit me in his schedule, was on time, AND prompt with communication the entire time. I recommend Dan for his quality of work, professionalism, and awesomeness! There really should be an option for zero stars, because that was my experience with "Dan with Van"!! ZERO.....HE DID NOT SHOW UP!!!! I booked "Dan with Van" a week in advance. My prior residence gave me an ample window (all day, with a hard stop at 6:00 PM.) with which to move, and "Dan with Van" knew this. He was scheduled to arrive the day of the move at 3:00 PM. I receive a text message at 2:45 PM from "Dan with Van", saying that he will no longer arrive at 3:00, but now he will arrive at 6:00 PM. I told him about the hard stop at 6:00 PM and he promised that the move will take no longer than one hour! I called my management company and begged them to allow me one hour past the 6:00 deadline. They reluctantly agreed but refused to extend any further...... I'm sure you can already tell where this story is going....I get another text at 5:45 PM saying that "Dan with Van" will now arrive at 8:00 PM!!!! I told him that this cannot happen and he has to be there by 6:00 PM. His response is, get this, that it's NOT his fault, because his job, HIS JOB (HE WORKS FOR A MOVING COMPANY) sent him on another move!!! Obviously I did not move that day..... As it turns out, my furniture had to remain in my former residence and I lost a significant portion of my security deposit, and I also had ZERO furniture in my new apartment, so I slept on the floor because "Dan with Van" proclaimed "it's not his fault"! I booked what I thought was a moving company. I DID NOT!!! Please stay far away from "Dan with Van". This is NOT, repeat NOT A MOVING COMPANY, IT IS AN EMPLOYEE OF A MOVING COMPANY WITH A SIDE HUSTLE!!! read more

I've never written a yelp review before, so you know this has to be good. I called 3 days before moving and Dan could not have been more accommodating. He had no problem showing up on a Wednesday evening to help me out. He actually arrived a little bit early! I had a stack of boxes, some big suitcases, and about 3 small pieces of furniture. Not tons of stuff if the grand scheme of things, but way too much for me to move on my own. Together we moved everything from a 4th floor walk-up to a 5th floor walk-up in no time. I'm pretty sure he had a smile on his face the whole time. Rates are totally reasonable, and there aren't any hidden fees or a 4-hour minimum like you'll find with most movers. If you're moving a 1-bedroom or less, this should be your go-to service. I can't recommend Dan enough. read more

We needed to move a small number of items from our apartment to our storage unit. Dan was the perfect choice--friendly, prompt, and responsible. He responded immediately to my query and gave a reasonable quote. On the day of the move he confirmed his arrival and was actually a bit early. He was very helpful throughout the move, treating our stuff with care, and he was also a good driver. I can recommend him with complete confidence. read more

Dan came to the rescue when the movers I booked blew off the appointment. He showed up with one other guy within an hour and a half of me calling to help me with a small move from the village to Chelsea. His price was competitive and he worked as fast as possible finishing within the 2 hour minimum. He was pleasant and helpful. I would recommend him and use his services again for small within city moves. read more

Moved from a studio to another a few blocks down in UES. In the past I've hired moving companies & paid a ton more. So glad I came across reviews for this business & asked Dan for help. I had some last-minute issues with my previous mover so called Dan two days before I was scheduled to move, and he agreed to help me out. I had A LOT of stuff since I lived in a huge one bedroom, but Dan somehow managed to fit everything in his van. He worked hard and efficiently and was very nice. Highly recommend. read more

Dan was there on time and got the job done for a reasonable rate. I needed to take 10 items to self-storage. They were a little too heavy for me but with Dan's help we got the job done. We carefully load and packed his van. Everything got safely into storage. I made sure the items could fit into his van (there's a 40" height limit) and everything was perfect. Other companies have bigger trucks, and bigger prices, which would have been overkill for this simple move. read more

I have used random movers advertised on Craigslist over the years and they're always hit or miss. I wanted to avoid the hassle, possible flakes, and hidden costs so based on the reviews I read on Yelp I decided to contact Dan. I scheduled a small move with him a few weeks before the move date and he quoted me a fair price and quickly confirmed everything with me via text. He confirmed again the night before my move which was awesome. He showed up right on time and completed my move in less than an hour with no issues at all. Dan is friendly and courteous and I couldn't have asked for a better mover. I would highly recommend Dan for small moves, you WON'T be disappointed. read more

Dan helped me move from Brooklyn to the UWS. He was not only on time (the FIRST NYC van person who's been on time!), but very courteous and handled all my belongings with care. His rates were better than most, as I was just moving a small bedroom's worth of stuff. Other people quoted me higher rates without understanding what I had to move, and in the past I have had people quote one price and then tack stuff on. Dan stuck to his quote and was awesome! Dan is fantastic!!! He helped me super last minute last weekend to help me move a bed from brooklyn to the upper west side, and he was so great I booked him immediately for the following weekend (today) to help me move the rest of my crap. He is on time, friendly, gave me a great rate, and didn't mind the minor obstacles that came up along the way (bridge re-route, elevator stuck). So happy i called him - I am recommending him to everyone. read more
