From the happy hour menu, the sliders, tuna nachos, and brussels sprouts were all very good -- special kudos to the brussels sprouts, which we went back for a second round of. Off the regular menu, the lobster bites were the standout: lightly breaded fried lobster, good enough to impress even though I'd just come from a week in Maine. The meatloaf was also excellent. The atmosphere is somewhat classy, the service was good, and the bartender was friendly. I'd definitely come back.

We had a bizarrely mixed experience at the Pullman…read more The pretty decor implies fine dining, but when you look more closely you see scuff marks on the dirty floor, fingerprint smudges on the light fixtures, dust over the ledges, and dusty cheap candles from the dollar store. The food quality and prices were equally uneven. The very small portioned chicken dish (priced the same as the wagyu meatloaf) was dry and flavorless, and seemed as if it had been barely reheated in the microwave. The star of the meal was the meatloaf: perfectly seasoned with the most delicious, moist, and tender texture. But this dish was served with a very strange rubbery bacon covering some asparagus. The potato puree was very well executed, not gummy or over whipped, but silky and delicate. Strangely, the vegetables were also highlights: perfectly crisp grilled asparagus and Brussels sprouts. The most offensive dish of the evening was the dessert in the form of an apple crumb described as "flaky" and "buttery." I am not exaggerating when I say that this tasted like an Ikea cafeteria dessert that had been stuck in the display case for a month. Truly the most abominable, rubbery, dense, dry dessert I've ever had. I'm shocked they had the audacity to serve this. Service was mostly excellent, but we were confused as to why another table had the specials recited to them when we didn't. Perhaps this is decent place for happy hour, but I wouldn't recommend a full meal here.

Service: each person with whom we interacted (hosts, manager, food runners and especially our server...she was fantastic). Food: For the table, we got Calamari: very light and crispy, but the meat was nice and tender Pepperoni and soppressata pizza: excellent, with an amazing sauce, sausage and crispy outside tender inside crust. Dinner: The kids both got the Rigatoni Vodka. This is what I had the first time we visited. It was just as delicious. Packed with flavor and the sausage was perfect. Tender, and just a touch of heat. My wife got the Gemelli. A pistachio pesto - this was probably the best pesto I've ever tasted. Creamy, fill of flavor and a touch of acid that brightened it up nicely. Incredible. I got the Bucatini Amatriciana. Pomodoro sauce with guanciale. Blew me away. The pomodoro was unbelievably well balanced. Exact amount of sweetness, slightly acidic and the guanciale brought the salty note, in the form of crispy crunchy bacon flavor, but surprisingly tender. Blown away. We had to try dessert. Tiramisu: it was as good as expected. Very well made Vanilla Panna Cotta: this was exceptional (like pretty much the rest of the meal) delicate and creamy, and a huckleberry compote (?) that was insanely good. A touch of salt was in there to make it positively sing. I could not more highly recommend giving this place a try. Absolutely the whole package. Loved it and will be back!

For my main course, I had a crispy fried chicken cutlet topped with a perfectly dressed Caesar salad (not on the menu but absolutely worth asking for). There's a strange-looking critter up top along with just random stuff riddled around the bar, and a bunch of popular beers on tap. All the staff were really friendly (shout out to Kevin!), and they were on top of keeping drinks filled. I also ordered some food - a double smash burger and some fries. Both were really tasty - that burger was really juicy! Great fixings on that burger, but it's a bit on the small side, so if hungry, probably a good idea to order the extra patty. Fries were really good too. They take cash or card, and they hold on to your card in a cup near the register until you close out - not what I've usually seen, but makes sense, I suppose. I'd return for another hangout with the guys! Kevin, come toss some discs with us!

We decided to stop at The Grog Grill which I had only been to once before in the 23 years I've lived in the area. I recalled that at that time, the Grog burger had been named best of the Main Line so I tried it and thought it was definitely not the best burger. The service was excellent, the pub environment was pub-like, we were seated at a high top at the back of the restaurant and next to a door to to the outside which made it very cold! I wore my heavy coat the entire meal. Cobb salad - 3/5, I think it's hard to mess up a cobb salad, but this was just okay. Tons of bacon bits and not a lot of salad greens, almost like a deconstructed salad which is weird for pub food. Mushroom flat bread - 3/5, just okay What redeemed our lunch was that when we asked for the check, our lovely server told us that the older gentleman at the bar had taken care of it along with the checks for several other patrons that day. That's never happened to me before! I will need to pay it forward...just maybe not at The Grog Grill.
