I've only ever had the chicken shawarma rice bowl but that's because it's THAT good. They give you rice, chicken shawarma meat and the option of potatoes. They also ask about what sauces you want, which are all amazing. I get the tzatziki, garlic and homemade hot sauce, which I think is a fusion between hot sauce and their garlic sauce. The price is reasonable and the employees and polite and prompt. They do also have a seating area but from my experiences, it seems like most people opt for takeout. Babaz is also open late which is always a plus! Don't let the exterior fool you, this is a great spot for a quick and cheap meal.

So I went for a walk in the dreary rainy weather until I passed this restaurant. I was greeted warmly when I arrived. The spread of toppings for the shawarma wraps and plates looked so colourful and fresh and I simply had to eat here. I got a chicken fattoush salad. It was huge, generously covered with tahini drizzled chicken shawarma, full of fresh lettuce, crunchy pita, cucumber, turnip pickles, regular pickles, tomatoes, red onion...with portions of a delicious red cabbage slaw, garlic sauce, and hummus lining a side of the dish. I managed to eat half of it and took the rest with me for later and finished it at the hotel. I also had an icy aryan drink (yogurt and water) and some homemade walnut baklava that was so good with coffee the next morning. But here's the downside of Shawarma Shop, and why I probably won't be back any time soon: I had a really hard time communicating with the staff, and they charged me the wrong amount. The menu clearly states that you can add an extra skewer of any meat for $4. I ordered shwarma, and asked for an extra skewer of kofta. The guy behind the counter seemed not to understand what I was asking, and kept shaking his head no. Finally, the other employee in the store said, "Okay." But instead of kofta, I was given a chicken kebab (shish tawouk). When the counter guy was giving me toppings, I asked for radishes, and pointed to the pickled radishes. He didn't seem to understand what I was asking for, and attempted to give me every other topping before finally giving me the radishes. I was then charged the price of a sandwich ($5.10) instead of an extra skewer ($4). I pointed this out, and after a bit of confusing back and forth they changed the price. I've eaten in a lot of restaurants where there are language barriers-- both in non-English speaking countries, and in non-English speaking establishments in LA. But usually, saying the proper name of the food you want to order is enough to get your message across, which is why I was surprised to run into so many difficulties. Also, they were out of beef shawarma when I visited on a Sunday night; you might want to go earlier in the day to ensure everything is in stock.

The waiter was not attentive to us we had to walk up to him to ask for dessert. I like this restaurant but on a different waiter and a different meal I feel it would have been better.
