Pricing is on the high side, but that is to be expected for the quality of goods. This is great spot to go to indulge in some of Germany's finest or to perhaps take back some for family or friends back home. Dallmayr is a food lover's paradise! Beautifully packaged tins of cookies, tea, coffee, candy, chocolate, baked goods and other things that would make great presents. They also have a large delicatessen with prepared foods as well as a chic Champagne Bar. It's clear that this is where the upper class of Munich go to have a light lunch or aperitif with a raw oyster or two! A fun tucked away spot within Dallmayr is the "Spirits Room" which sells a wide variety of bottles of hard to find liquor and wine at all different price points. Great food, excellent service, and a lovely atmosphere, all at reasonable prices. I'd been wanting to try this place for a while, but reservations are required, and even the bar seats are usually full. Fortunately, I managed to get a table on a rainy day. I spent €81 (before tips) on 4 oysters, a duck breast entrée with a baked cheese tomato add-on (a generous portion), and two glasses of wine. The server was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. The dishes were thoughtfully prepared, with certain items sliced or left whole for specific reasons--just ask, and you'll appreciate how considerate they are. To be honest, the oysters were just okay, but they were definitely fresh! The baked cheese tomato add-on was a pleasant surprise, so much so that I'd happily have it as a stand-alone lunch. I insisted on regional wines, although it seemed the server had other recommendations in mind. The price is not much higher than the city average (I ate way more this time for €81), but the quality and experience make it absolutely worth it. I highly recommend this place for a celebratory treat or a date. It's located inside Dallmayr grocery shop, and I'd suggest browsing the coffee shop on the 2nd floor before dinner--it adds to the overall experience! read more

I had just finished a tour and was famished. I had lunch in the small cafe/bar on the first floor. It was quite crowded, but I was able to find a table. They only offered a seafood menu that day. I ordered the grilled salmon with pumpkin purée and a salad. You can tell from the picture that the salad was huge. The salmon was perfectly prepared and the pumpkin purée was an amazing combination of flavor. The staff was at the top of their game as well and spoke English, which was very welcome. The cafe is located inside a high end deli/cheese shop/bakery, and I highly recommend picking up something for later. read more

A high end gourmet store in the old city center ... this place has it all ... prices aren't as crazy like Harrods in London .. but definitely not cheap ... tons of cheese, and cold foods are available ... They have a section of chocolates, teas, cookies, wines and super high end liquors ... After buying some stuff, we went to the bar and had a couple of glasses of wine .. Two things - I didn't find this place to be outlandishly expensive at all, and you can find some wonderful gifts here for those who aren't going to be satisfied with a Munich shot glass. Wander around, enjoy the experience, maybe grab something from one of the deli counters if you're headed up to the English Garden for a picnic. There is a large variety to choose from here. Whether it be wine, chocolates, pastries, cheeses or real food you'll get lost in variety. There prices are reasonable depending on what you get. I'm always about quality versus quantity. It's always nice to have the quantity with the quality however, doesn't always workout that way. For example, I spent nearly €30,00 on chocolate and pastries alone. Not as a gift. For me to eat personally. No complaints on anything I've purchased. I really like this place and if I lived here I'd probably be here all the time. There is a park right outside. Dallmayr is a 2-starred Michelin restaurant that is walking distance from Downtown Munich. Still haven't been able to eat here as I never plan ahead to go to Munich, but one day I definitely will and make a reservation prior. I have, however stopped by for coffee and snacks. We recently had breakfast in the second floor bistro. We were not impressed. The food was okay, but not worth what it cost. We got the "soft boiled" eggs...but they were hard boiled. We let the server know, but all she could muster was "oh, well"...no offer to replace or take off the bill. The decor is quite dated, and it's very stuffy and impersonal. You may think, so what, but you don't know that Sis is NOT a chocolate lover so her actually being impressed enough w/ this chocolate to keep the wrapper & try to seek it out is a miracle in itself Flash forward a few years when the Mr learned of this chocolate-nirvana & bought her a bunch for Xmas Flash forward a few more years & I'm actually entering this wonderland of gourmet treats Take Fortnum & Mason, or Selfridges, or any other over-the-top-wonderful foodie's dream & you've got Dallmayr Deli section w/ all kinds of sausage, ham & other meaty bliss Coffee beans & tea leaves galore - scored Sis a few teas w/ jam-parings this visit Chocolate cases filled w/ truffles & other sugary pastries. Got Dad some of their Almond Clusters & Mom scored some of their Hot Chocolate. There is another room holding all kinds of pre-boxed chocolates, chocolate bars & fun animal shapes like ladybugs. Scored the BEST chocolate-honey bar & wished I had bought way more than just the one Room of alcohol - to the likes of Hennessey & their own blends of infused brandies. We got a Pear & Honey Brandy & ended up drinking the whole bottle in 1 sitting - it was so sweet & just a bit flowery from the pears & the honey was subtle undertone that evened it all out.....defintiely need more of this! I think the best timing to visit Alois Dallmayr, to go there when you feel hungry. The is a lot nice food inside. From meats to vegetables, they have it all. and most of them are really good. Inside Alois Dallmayr beside that, you can also find food in the packages and different kind of coffee, which you can carry it back home or just gifts for you friends and family. It is just like a luxury supermarket. You can also just buy the food which already cooked, and enjoy it aside. I remember the first time when I was here yeas ago, I was kinda impressed by the various options of the food and the history behind it. I found the place itself also very cultural and interested see many different kind of food and ingredients. As such as luxury place, the price of the stuff here generally higher. But for people come here just for traveling, one or two things, it shouldn't any problems, especially when they are really good. Even you didn't find anything here, it is still a cool place to visit. What is the best way to describe Dallmayr? I think foodies and home cooks in Dallmayr are like kids in a candy store. This place offers a wide variety of high quality ingredients typically not found in your average grocery stores. It reminds me of Fortnum and Mason in London, but the specialties are different. I wish there is something similar in the US. Dallmayr houses a number of great dining options as well. Both the Café Bistro and Lukullus Bar are worthy of trying out. I will save the details for cafe bistro in a separate review, but the Lukullus Bar isn't available to review as a separate place. The bar is a great place to relax with champagne and oysters after a long day of walking around the city. I had my share of oysters in US, but they were mostly local varieties from Northern America. This place provided me with a good opportunity to try the European varieties, which I must say were quite good. read more

Love this spot and I can't believe that in all my times in Munich I haven't even known about it! I wandered in while walking around waiting to meet my colleagues for dinner. The store is gorgeous! The food displays are amazing and I assume delicious based on the amount of locals shopping in there. I walked around and was drooling over all of the displays and food and wished I could bring some items home with me on the plane! I sat at the little cafe/bar/seafood spot and had a glass of wine. Must avoid this place on a weekend and come back and check this place out during the week. Selection is awesome. I must admit I barely made it past the wine shop :-) Pricey but rare wines and spirits available if you have money to burn or, just browse and drool over the great selection ;-)) There are lots of little shops within the big shop (divided into sections) with anything edible you can possibly think of. Great fresh food counter as well and, it reminds of places like Julius Meinl in Vienna, Fortnum and Mason in London or David Jones Food Hall in Sydney just bigger and with more variety. This is my favorite delicatessen shop in Munich. Dallmayr is actually very famous not only in Munich but allover Germany because they are one of the best known coffee brands. Here you can find any specialty which you can think. The shop is divided into different sections including the main hall with fresh produce, then there's wine and spirits, tea and coffee, pastries, chocolates and sweets. On the first floor you will find a gift store, a cafe and their 2 michelin star restaurant which is opened for dinner only. This place isn't cheap, but it is absolutely the place to go to get a fine delicacy to take back as a souvenir from Munich. This place was originally famous for its coffee and expanded into its current incarnation of excellence in myriad yum-yums under the sharp business acumen of the wife and widow of the founder when he died. Any of their coffee products would be a perfect Munich gift, as would any of their fine chocolates and pastries. I would steer away from their wine section as grossly overpriced. If you're really looking to drop some money, head over to the meats, cheeses, and fish counters. You'll walk away a changed person. read more

This place gets REALLY crowded, but shop is worth the visit. I wanted to buy chocolates (as souvenirs), and I found this place through yelp. I was so amazed when I came in, as they didn't just have chocolates, they have just about EVERYTHING! From pastries to chocolates to wines to jams to lunch foods, this place is AMAZING! I ended up buying teas and cakes and chocolates and jams, and my brother got a schnitzel. I originally didn't like schnitzel, but after trying Alois Dallmayr's schnitzel, I 100% changed my mind. Let's face it, if you are a tourist you are most likely going to spend a lot of money in this place but it's well worth it. We ended up at Alois Dallmayr for lunch and I have to say that was one of the most satisfying lunch I had while in Munich. The choices were varied and I settled for fish since I was already getting tired of the more heavy and traditional Bavarian fare and the fish was perfect. After lunch we ended up browsing the market downstairs and stocked up on fancy and expensive gourmet food: chocolate, coffee, tea. The Munich response to Harrods. Part food hall, part restaurant/tea room. The downstairs is filled with to-go food options, a well-stocked adult beverage room (always willing to share some free samples with its visitors), a coffee room, a tea room...that allows you to pack your own tea in beautiful tins, a pastry room (the petit fours are almost too pretty to eat...almost), a chocolate room, a fish vendor, a butcher, and more. It's always bustling, and it's always a fun place to stop in and grab a few goodies. Upstairs offers some souvenir type gifts (glasses, mugs, decoratively packaged chocolate, etc...) and of course, the restaurant. I've had some delicious light lunches here, and excellent afternoon tea coupled with delectable desserts. read more

I can see to some extent how people think this store is overrated, but I'm sorry the name Alois Dallmayr doesn't say cheap! I loved this place, a gourmet heaven! If I had more time, I wouldn't have mind taking my time in each room. Each theme was compartmentalized in its own room. Rooms: Wine, Chocolate, Pastries, Deli, and a Cafe. I like how the Cigar store was in its own nook and had a door to separate it with the main store. I loved their apple tasche. It was so fresh even 2 days later, and it was delicious. I refused to eat another one after that because that one left such a great impression. I went to their cigar shop and picked up a couple for a friend. The representatives in there were so helpful in making a decision. I know that is their job, but clearly I knew very little about cigars (still learning)....I guess what I am trying to say is they could have been snooty about my lack of knowledge. I would definitely visit this store again when I am back in Munich. read more

We had come recently from London and compared this luxurious department store to Harrods. Compared to that, it actually wasn't as luxurious, and actually we got quite a decent deal on canned weisswurst in this store to take home to the States (we were a little too anxious to try our luck with fresh vacuum packed weisswurst.) There is an expensive looking champagne bar downstairs and a tearoom upstairs, neither of which we tried. It's definitely worth a look for a taste of old Europe in Munich. read more

Quality: excellent, but comparing to other local pastry shops (Cafe Widmann or Cafe Vor Ort) the cake is not really better. Price: expensive Service: professional If you are a tourist you should at least try out the Cafe by taking a cup of coffee and cake. Yes, it's a little bit expensive, but has really a great value. You can really find everything there, form traditional Bavarian food, to bread, from fruit to meet, from chocolate to homemade pasta. And, anything you choose would be highly appreciated. I am a frequent purcheser at the buther's desk, steaks and fillet in particular: they are really amazingly good, and more western style than those you find at usual German butchers, who thend to dry the meat too much. And, in my fridge there are always sigle portions of spinach and cheese ravioli: when I am home sick (I am Italian), I am only 12 minutes (in boiling water) away from home! read more

We came here one day because we were just looking for a cafe to get something to drink and relax for a little while. This came up, so we decided to check it out. We were both happy with what we ordered, but this place is not what we expected. When you first enter, it is a store. They sell all kinds of food items, most of which tend toward the high end. You wouldn't do your grocery shopping here, but if you need something special, or are looking for a gift, this might just be the place for you. We made our way upstairs to the cafe. We enjoyed what we had, but the whole time, it just seemed like this place was shooting for high end, and that they wanted the best of the best. Much of what they had was on the expensive side. We got there around 5, and by the time we left, they looked like they were about to close. Would I go here again? Yes, but I might look for something a little more casual first. read more
