I individually interpreted his responses at several points in our phone conversation to be confirming to me that he was, in fact, a structural engineer. I did not go ahead with the appointment, because he grew evasive when I requested to be able to confirm his licensing status in advance of our meeting (he had agreed to bring his licensing info to the meeting). I finally looked online myself, and to the best of my ability to judge, his engineer license appears to have expired in August, 2002. Please also note that the license for the contracting company listed on this Yelp page appears to also have expired in 2021. (In our phone conversation, he indicated having come out of retirement, and that he was part of a new company. However, I did not receive enough information to independently verify that.)

During the bathroom reno, we had A/C installed and they needed to knock out a small wall to access our furnace. Nate was able to squeeze in the drywall repairs for us and still meet his time estimate. He gave us a very reasonable quote for the drywall, revised his initial estimate accordingly, and came in exactly on time and exactly on estimate. Nate is fabulous and you should hire him. I'm trying to think of something non-glowing to say... sometimes he can express his opinion strongly. If you're a pushover who will yield to an expert instead of pushing back to make sure it's the way _you_ want it and be unhappy later, Nate might not be the best fit. On both jobs, he did the prep work right then and there, and we scheduled when he could come back to do the finishing. The work is done by a clueless carpenter who is way over his head and shouldn't have a license. More mistakes and poor craftsmanship than can be counted. Do not hire for finish work or rely on him to be accountable and honest about his skillset. Needs to work under a guy that knows what he is doing so he can learn how to run a business and provide work that he promises. Wouldn't hire again if he was the last carpenter on earth. I've seen better work from a homeowner.
