Okay - so I have been to this restaurant many times and every time the experience and the food taste differs. However, I'm basing my review here on my most recent visits in last 10 days - Visit 1:- when Dakshin started their weekend buffet, we went on 3rd March - first weekend of buffet. It was chaotic is an understatement. There was no order in which appetizers were lined up - one could literally go left or right after picking a clean plate -- this was creating a HUGE chaos. Also the area where plates were kept was a doorway of some sort so there were people congregating. Food itself was okay - not the best buffet food I've had - but the experience itself made me not want to go for next helping. By the end of our meal, place (esp the entrance) was stinking bad of floor cleaner! Yuck! Visit 2:- I literally tried hard to give this place a second chance by trying their weekday buffet - assuming there would be less foot traffic given a Monday (11th March). Flyers and IG posts all promotes start time of 11:30AM. We reached there at 11:30AM. Staff said they will be ready in 5-min. We were okay to wait. It was then 11:50 and there was no sign of readiness. I had to go ask the staff member why there is a delay and reiterate that it beats the purpose of quick buffet on a weekday lunch if they are taking so long to just get ready! Staff advised us to get started while they are still placing some of their dishes (such a naan/bread). Again - the experience was bad. Food was okay again. Stink of floor cleaner was very much there. I realized that I had not tried any Indian food in the entire Charlotte area since I have been here (because I was worried about being disappointed), so I decided to suggest it to my husband and to give Dakshin a try. We came here for dinner and were allowed to seat ourselves right away. Only half of the restaurant was available for customers to dine. The other half was left empty. There was a sign on each table that indicated that we were supposed to look at the menu, order, and pay by phone. We ordered the Chicken Korma Special ($16.99) and Butter Masala Special ($16.99). Despite ordering both as mild, the Korma was definitely spicier than the Butter Masala. I liked both, but the Butter Masala tasted better to me, mostly because it did not burn my tongue off more and more with each bite but also because it had a sweetness to it. I loved that the dishes arrived in cute little cauldrons. I thought it was odd to choose serving spoons that were way too big considering the size of the little pots. The chicken was plump and juicy. I thought the amount of chicken was decent in portion size but when considering the cost of the meal, I would have liked more pieces of chicken. The rice was perfect. We also tried the Garlic Naan (4 pieces for $3.99), which was thinner than most naan that I have tried, but it was still delicious and great for dipping with the sauces. Ordering and paying by phone certainly minimized the need for wait staff. There were only 2 staff members who were running food and drinks to the tables. However, it caused us to receive less service when needed. It was not terribly busy, yet the staff was nowhere to be seen when we needed them the most. For example, I was afraid to finish my water because we had difficulty finding staff to request refills for our water, which is important to have while sweating through spicy food. They were also nowhere to be seen when we were wondering if our order for naan had been lost after waiting a very long time for it. The staff made themselves very scarce. Also, I was told that the Yelp check-in deal would not work because "we do not use Yelp." Thankfully, this was remedied after he spoke with the manager. Overall, the food was still fantastic so the 4 stars is for the quality, presentation, and variety of food offered. However, the service was far too lacking, so I would give them 2 stars for service. read more

Placed a togo order at Dakshin Indian Grill with a friend of mine. Daksin has a very extensive menu with loads of options to choose from. They even have some Indo Chinese dishes. I ordered the Garlic Naan, Korma Specials with Chicken and Papdi Chatt. Level one spiciness for my order. My friend got the Samoa Chatt, Garlic Naan, Butter Chicken, Manchurian Specials with Chicken and Fried Rice. She ordered everything on level one spiciness but the Manchurian Chicken at a zero spiciness. The food was all flavorful. The Manchurian Specials with Chicken was very spicy so spicy that she had to call back and have them remake the dish. The remade dish was amazing. Not spicy at all. I was able to reheat my dishes the next day and everything was better. The pickup process was easy and we were able to use the checkin reward of 10% off. I was impressed with the customer service and the portions of the dishes. Reviewing again, we have been here multiple times now and are never disappointed. Today, we tried a spicy chicken appetizer, its not on the on menu so don't know the name. It was so good, beautiful in presentation, and nice and spicy. Hubs had the lamb curry and I had the Mughlai shahi paneer. Both were excellent. Dirty, Poor Rating of 86 'B' to starters. The plates are dusty (in fact the whole restaurant has cleanly issues - dread to know about the kitchen). Plates are left on the table getting dusty before dining. The Samosas were still frozen. The management seems not to care about the quality of food or the customer. We came here for a sunday lunch buffet. It was our first time here. When we came in, someone greeted us and told us we can sit where ever we wanted to and told us the buffet wasn't ready yet. We waited a few minutes and was told it was ready. We looked at the buffet and overall they had a good selection of items for vegetarian and non vegetarian. We got our food and sat down. We still didn't get anything to drink or get offered any drinks.We did see waters that were premade at the bar. We waited a good ten minutes and still no drinks. There were two people working-man and a woman. The man was working hard but the woman was on her phone texting the majority of the time. I finally went up to her and asked her for some waters, she didn't even look up from her phone and said yeah and looked at the waters at the bar. I assumed she wanted me to get them myself so I did. My husband wanted their soup but didn't see any soup bowls. He asked the same lady who is still on her phone if there are any bowls for the soup. She doesn't look up at her phone again and tell him to use a small ramekin. I go to the bathroom and there is NO toilet paper in there. Disappointing considering the restaurant just recently opened. What was even more annoying was they had a large rice cooker and I opened it to get rice and I see immediately a long black curly hair in it. I lost my appetite. It was a pain in the rear to order food here. Takeout is better than in person. You have to order from your phone when you sit down inside. When I first pulled up at 5:30pm they looked closed. No visible signs that they were open from the outside. The windows and door were heavily tinted. Even the open sign wasn't lit. There was also a sign that said please wear a mask but no employee wore a mask so it made me wonder why the sign is still up. Once inside, the restaurant was clean and it gave cute Western vibes/cowboy vibes. YOU DO NOT ORDER FROM A MENU but you order from your phone. It made it challenging when it's your first time looking at their menu. I ended up ordering paneer and my wife ordered Butter Chicken Masala. This has become our go-to Indian restaurant. The menu is excellent and offers a lot of variety beyond what most Asian Indian offer. Their categories are non-veg and vegetarian for appetizers and main courses. We found that the only difference between veg and non-veg is the meat. Same sauces. There are many items new to us and we are thankful that the wait staff will walk you through the menu and answer your questions. They are busy with telephone orders continually coming in. Yes, there are Asian Indian families that eat here...always a good sign with ethnic restaurants. Most take out. We call in and take-out frequently when we are tired and just want to have some good, flavorful food. Level of spice is a key item when dealing with Indian food. The lowest level is "no spice," where you get the flavor and no kick. Medium is, to us, just right. The spice gives it some zip but does not burn your mouth. Spicy can be pretty darn hot. Once I ordered spicy and simply could not eat it. I think the cook got carried away. And Indian Spice is ultra hot, like a vindaloo curry on steroids. Surly only the native Indians can handle this spice level. It will blow your socks off. We are hopeful that they will resume their Saturday and Sunday buffets. They are wonderful, with a veg and non-veg section. Same items, same sauces. A great way to try various dishes one way or another. Rice and some dessert items are included. Clean facility, clean restrooms. Come to experience real Asian Indian food. Try some items that are new for you. We have truly enjoyed our experiences here. read more

We came here for a team lunch on the recommendation of one of my coworkers. They do have a buffet sometimes, but not when we were there. It wasn't very crowded and we were seated right away. My husband and I split the butter chicken and the goat masala special. Butter chicken is always one of my favorite Indian dishes and this one didn't disappoint. The goat masala was also good, but the goat was cooked on the bone (fairly normal, but I'm not a big fan). We got the assorted bread basket to share as well which came with naan, garlic naan, roti, and butter roti. The garlic naan was definitely the best and I would probably just do a single order of it next time. Overall the service was good although it was a little slow when it came time to get our checks. The GOBI Manchurian was the worst we've had. It was like a bowl of hot ketchup and bits of deep fried flour. We were hard pressed to taste or detect a sizeable piece of cauliflower in the whole bowl. Overall, great Indian food. It's a large menu and we ended up ordering almost half of it. We wanted to try so many things. Only downside to this place is you send your order from your phone even though you're sitting at a table. We had to flag someone down a couple times to ask questions or order drinks. This place is fantastic. Authentic food, great service, and a wonderful ambiance. We went with a large group and they were extremely accommodating and helpful as we navigated their menu. The recommendations from Monica were spot on! Everyone enjoyed their meals and a few dishes we really liked were the Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, Paneer Masala, Samosa Chaat, veggie Korma, Garlic naan, and Chicken Methi. The food is what counts, right? For that, Dakshin's food gets four stars from me; the service is where the experience goes slightly awry, but let's start with the food. I ordered the butter masala special with chicken. My picture doesn't do it justice, but I thought the presentation was actually quite nice in the steel pots. I enjoy a little heat/spice in my food, but I learned my lesson the last time I went medium at an Indian restaurant. For the sake of not looking like I ran a marathon before dinner, I ordered my meal with mild spice. For me, it was just enough. It allowed the sweet savory flavors to shine through with just enough kick to remind me that I'm enjoying Indian cuisine. I scooped the rice onto a plate and then poured the butter masala over top. The sauce and rice was delicious enough, but with the tender thick pieces of chicken (which they didn't skimp on), the dish was top notch. I didn't want any of that sauce to go to waste. After I finished my meal, I had to order some naan (oven baked flat bread) with garlic, which I used to soak up all of the remaining sauce. Nothing was left behind. What I didn't love: 1) There are no menus. I understand we lived through a pandemic and all, and this is a personal preference, but I'm a little tired of sitting in a restaurant and placing my order the same way I would with DoorDash. 2 )I won't hold the mobile-menu against Dakshin, it's that you literally have no contact with a server that bothers me. You place your order directly with the kitchen on your phone and they bring it out when it's ready. In an area where Indian restaurants aren't plentiful, being able to chat with a server can be beneficial for those who aren't as familiar with this cuisine. 3) Keep the water coming...please 4) Check in on the table every once in a while I really liked this restaurant and I'm sure to be back. Well, this is a sad update but we had not been back since the Pandemic. We were the only people in this establishment and I think that the Waiter was also the Chef on this day. It was a Weds day and on Weds day they didn't have half of the items that were on the menu, Weds days fault I guess. Service was very very slow. We asked for Condiments and we were told at first that they did not have any and when I questioned him he backed off and said yes he could get them? Food was just okay, the Dal was very watery, the Eggplant I ordered was not what was described. Our bill was 135.00 so we spent a lot for nothing that was good. My wife took the kids out to the movies last night (they went to go see the new movie M3GAN and they knew better than to ask me if I wanted to go see a movie that looked that silly). As soon as they hit the door to leave, I sat there in front of the TV contemplating watching football or playing some Fortnite(don't judge me, I'm an 80s child that was raised on video games and Fortnite is my favorite). Just as I was thumbing through the TV channels and about to get up to go turn on my Xbox (Fornite usually wins), the cooking channel came up and they were making some Indian dishes. Since Indian food is my 4th favorite ethnic food and I hadn't had it in a while, I only knew one restaurant in the area where I can order it using Doordash....Dakshin. Dakshin is around my old neighborhood and though I know I was ten more miles away since I moved and Doordash would take forever to get to my house, I knew it was worth the wait. I ordered some Chicken 65 as an app, main dishes of Chicken Marsala, Boneless Briyani, and a Curry fish dish for the Mrs. for when she gets back in from the movies. Food finally came via Doordash and a ripped open the bag. I guess I didn't have to rip open the bag, but I was tapping into my inner caveman since I had the house to myself. All I can say when I started eating was DAMN, DAMN, DAMN that food is great!!!! The aroma had me salivating. The taste of the sauces, the tender chicken, the garlic naan....oh my!! Dipping the naan into the marsala sauce was absolute heaven. Portion sizes were really good too. Now my only downfall was that I thought I was going to be a real man this time and order the medium hot spice...wrong move. I started sweating like a sinner in church and my stomach system eventually made me push out a ham sandwich I think I ate back in 1996, BUT, the taste was undeniably good. If you are looking for really really good-tasting Indian food head over to Dakshin. Next time(and there will be one soon) I will waive the white flag and order mild...how real men do it. read more

My dining mate and I came here for lunch. A big comfortable dining room, a bar, several tv's , clean restrooms. A gracious hostess greeted us. We had the buffet, cuisine to include several chicken dishes, a few rice dishes, several fruit based desserts, a variety of sauces, typical tandoori chicken, good nan bread , idly , and one fried appetizer amongst a few other typical Indian dishes such as sag paneer. No soup or salad greens on the buffet. Food was displayed nicely, most of it to spicy hot for me. The goat biryani mostly rice and a few goat bones with very little meat. My dining mate enjoyed the food more than I. I liked the chili chicken the best, ironically not as spicy as some of the other dishes. The tandoori chicken was moist and not dry. Many of the dishes in very soupy sauces so we had to fish out pieces of chicken. But we both admitted we enjoyed other Indian buffets. better elsewhere . read more

I was looking for Starbucks and I ran across an Indian restaurant. I unexpectedly ran across. She which means South in Hindi . I was pleasantly impressed with the covered patio and lighting . The Eatery boast high ceilings, a great looking bar and plenty of TVs. I ordered an Indian tea and samosas. The maitre d was extremely friendly and helpful. The ambiance is exactly what I would want if I was taking a client or a good friend out to eat. They have spared no expense in terms of the decorations, and the overall look and feel of the restaurant. Let me start with the food. It was all delicious. They dont have some of my favorite plates like chicken saag or the mango lassi. Maybe they were out. You have to order your food on their website. Not difficult. Their restrooms were clean and had all the toiletries necessary. The employees were accomodating. I am not from NC so it does shock me when i enter most restaurants here. We received our appetizer quickly but our entrees took 65 minutes and these were just normal menu items. We did notice certain customers received preferential and quicker service.
