It was our 10 year old daughters first taste of Indian Cuisine. We went mild with the Butter Chicken and Garlic Naan. I thought we might need to order more as she enjoyed it so much. The waitstaff and host were extremely helpful and nice. They offered her a little taste of the Mango Lassi to see if she would like it...SHE DID! Went there as I saw some vegan options. We ordered aloo gobhi, tandoori roti, pagdi chaat and a soup. Really wanted to try their dumplings but they have dairy in it, wish it could be made vegan. My fav was aloo gobhi and papdi chat. read more

Curry Gate = New Fave Unlocked! The spot was super clean. The staff, amazing. The food, OH SO GOOD! Let's not get it twisted, I am not the expert of Indian food but all of my people are. Like for real. So we went on the recommendation of a foodie friend and it did not disappoint. Everything was so fresh and yummy. My favorite was the Garlic Naan, but keep in mind- I am a basic B. I dipped it in the Panner Methi Matter. Level 4 on the spice and it was so good. The rest of the table said the samosa was Fire. Steamed Dumpling were devoured. I've been wanting to try the original curry gate for so long, so was pleased to see the new location open up near me! Food and service were 10/10 top notch. The quality of food and flavors stood out most. Tikki masala and butter chicken off the hook, garlic naan as good as I've ever had as well. A part time Charlotte resident, home is Chicago, and I have high expectations for Indian food after being around some truly exceptional places there. And Curry Gate Matthews exceeded all my expectations. A completely enjoyable meal from start to finish. We have been to the location (Curry Gate 2) on South Blvd, and have always enjoyed. The food is always great, and service is always quick and with a smile. But the Matthews location, it just felt like they stepped up their game. I had the Chicken 65, Gobi Manchurian and Manchow soup, and it all came out piping hot and perfectly cooked. The Chicken 65 was the first time I had ordered this...though it will be a staple going forward. My husband had the corn soup. Garlic Naan and chicken Vindaloo. He thought it was the best he's had, including a previous trip here and the other CG locations. The spice was right on and everything tasted so fresh and cooked to order. I have been to many Indian restaurants in my time and I have to say, for curry gate to be in Matthews is truly surprising. I used to have to drive into downtown Charlotte in order to get decent Indian cuisine. Curry Gate deserves to be more known about, the flavors of the Makhani (Butter Chicken), The Tikka Masala, the Korma (Coconut curry), and lastly the NAAN. The Naan bread here is truly REMARKABLE. You have to come here and get a curry of choice, with the Garlic Naan (or Chili garlic naan if you're feeling spicy). The staff are REMARKABLY friendly. I've come here 8-10 times and I have not ONCE had a bad experience. The Owner(s) should be incredibly proud of the staff as they are putting their best foot forward in the kitchen, and out in the dining room. If you're a fan of Indian Food, I would say Curry Gate is a must try if you're within the greater Charlotte area. (I wish I had taken pictures of the Naan) read more

I've lived in the Carolina's for 25 years and this is the best Indian food in the area and in my top three restaurants. Great service, polite and attentive. But the food is amazing. I love Indian and gravitate to buffets because I love a variety of dishes. Sine Covid, buffets are more rare and ordering multiple dishes can be expensive. Curry Gate is the most reasonable Indian restaurant and so we order six dishes and take the extras home for another meal. My wife doesn't like "spicy " and tried a level three. It was ok, but next time tried a level four, which was perfect. I like it fiery so they bring me a small bowl of peppers to amp up the spice. They apparently do a big take out business as there's always a constant stream of DoorDash drivers. One more thing.. I'm vegan and this place has a wide range of dishes that meet my diet. Ambiance and service were fine. My partner and I have been going to king of spicy and other nearby Indian restaurants for years now, I'd say we're familiar with delicious authentic Indian flavor. We usually get tikka and butter chicken, this is some of the least flavorful or complex Indian food we've ever had. We used to get a 6 spice level at king of spicy and could barely finish it because it was sooo spicy but so flavorful and deep and rich. This new place is so flavorless and dull, no complexity and seems to be 90% creamy sauce and 10% actual seasoning. They've gentrified out any soul left in this food in their recent expansion and buying of king of spicy. AND they've upped the prices!!! From 14 to 17 for the same amount with less flavor. For 40$ I was extremely disappointed in the quality of food we will not return. read more

We got extra rice because we weren't sure how much came with it but we didn't need the extra rice! Really great food. Just as tasty as their original location; but much more accessible for those of us on the East side of Charlotte. Super friendly waitstaff as well -- they were really careful to make sure that the spice level of our food was good, and were really courteous in letting some diners next to us know that "an 8 is pretty spicy."
