The perfect combo: Vermentino in the vineyards (excellent with smoked turkey too:-)
Lauren B.

Excellent place to escape to and enjoy phenomenal wine at a reasonable price. David, the winemaker and owner is passionate about his craft and creates a wonderful experience that makes you feel right at home with some of the best reds and whites in California. Tempranillo, Viognier, Vermentino and Zinfandel, Five hands all bring a unique touch that will not disappoint the palate. The environment welcomes picnics in small groups in a lovely, serene environment that will create smiles, settle your soul while inviting you back for more. Thank you David!

Beautiful view from the deck.

Best wine in the North State. They have a nice deck and huge lawn area with chairs to enjoy there relaxing and beautiful setting. I recommend bringing a picnic lunch for a great afternoon. There owners are super nice and did I mention the wine is great? Definitely recommend... But call before making the drive. Sometimes they aren't open and it's good to make sure.

Lacey and the staff were incredibly knowledgeable and accessible. A definite place to stop if…read moreyou're in the area. I ended up buying some reds, whites, and the Angelica for gifts as well as tee shirts because of my incandescent time as a retreatant, but I must also encourage you to go at a time when the gift shop is open because the jams, honey, and walnuts they sell there are DELICIOUS. You'll have to walk out of the tasting room and up the walkway alongside the vines to the gift shop during their hours of operation, which seem to vary, but are customarily 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. They don't offer tastings of the walnuts, jams, or honey. When I got home and tried them, I wish they had since they are absolutely scrumptious and I would've bought more. I really wanted to buy raw walnuts because I had walked alongside the walnut trees during my retreat. However, they only sold the candied walnuts in the gift store. The candied walnuts are grown and made by the monks of New Clairvaux and the ingredients are: roasted walnuts, sugar, eggs, vanilla, salt, cardamom, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper. I gave some to my friends in Berkeley who said they were "delicious and slightly addictive." I agree! The cayenne pepper is subtle, but the mix of the cardamom and cayenne is perfection. If I tried them in the gift shop, I would've bought every one they had on their shelves. The creamed honeys for sale are prepared by the Cistercian Nuns of the Redwoods Monastery. When I saw "almond," because I'd never seen honey from almond blossoms, I bought a few. I should've bought some of the other flavors. I didn't realize until I opened them that they had crushed almonds and orgeat or almond syrup in them! I love orgeat in cocktails, steamed milk, in pretty much anything so this creamed honey is absolutely divine. Again, if I'd known, I would've bought every single jar of it. So, as you'd expect at the Abbey, because they don't have tastings at the gift store, you'll have to purchase the food items on faith. I recommend you do.

The historic Thompson House is the perfect backdrop for wine tasting. The thing I love most about MFC is that it doesn't feel like a wine bar. It's got wine and a bar... but it feels like you're hanging out at your trendy friend's house. There's a living room area with fireplace, a dining room, a front porch with a cafe table & chairs, and big front lawn with Adirondack chairs in pairs & quads. Truly a choose your own pleasure! We couldn't pass up the perfect late spring afternoon, so I sunk into a deep Adirondack chair and enjoyed my wine tasting al fresco. The neon sign in the front window is the cutest, and just added to the overall vibe. Chuck was so hospitable, and brought me each pour from his post behind the bar inside. He gave insight into each wine, and then disappeared so I could enjoy at my own pace. MFC is very dog friendly, inside too, but I can't think of anywhere I've been in recent memory that was more perfect than wine tasting here on the front lawn with my pup in my lap. In the great words of Kurt Vonnegut, "If this isn't nice, I don't know what is."

We were welcomed by Lindsey and a couple regular customers. It's a cute little place with a small, but mighty selection of wines personally picked out by the owners. I loved to hear how they travel around California and Oregon looking for new wine options. I was able to sip before committing, which is always appreciated. My husband is more of a beer drinker, and again a small selection, but nice choices for those non wine drinkers. If you need a pick me up, they also had locally roasted coffee. They do have some little snacks as well. We had such a nice experience that we went back the next day. Lindsey gave us some great recommendations for trails and for a nice dinner in Mt. Shasta. We ended up using most of her recommendations - all which were great! If you are looking for great wine and service, this is definitely the spot. We will definitely be back if we are in the area again!
