I ended up buying some reds, whites, and the Angelica for gifts as well as tee shirts because of my incandescent time as a retreatant, but I must also encourage you to go at a time when the gift shop is open because the jams, honey, and walnuts they sell there are DELICIOUS. You'll have to walk out of the tasting room and up the walkway alongside the vines to the gift shop during their hours of operation, which seem to vary, but are customarily 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. They don't offer tastings of the walnuts, jams, or honey. When I got home and tried them, I wish they had since they are absolutely scrumptious and I would've bought more. I really wanted to buy raw walnuts because I had walked alongside the walnut trees during my retreat. However, they only sold the candied walnuts in the gift store. The candied walnuts are grown and made by the monks of New Clairvaux and the ingredients are: roasted walnuts, sugar, eggs, vanilla, salt, cardamom, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper. I gave some to my friends in Berkeley who said they were "delicious and slightly addictive." I agree! The cayenne pepper is subtle, but the mix of the cardamom and cayenne is perfection. If I tried them in the gift shop, I would've bought every one they had on their shelves. The creamed honeys for sale are prepared by the Cistercian Nuns of the Redwoods Monastery. When I saw "almond," because I'd never seen honey from almond blossoms, I bought a few. I should've bought some of the other flavors. I didn't realize until I opened them that they had crushed almonds and orgeat or almond syrup in them! I love orgeat in cocktails, steamed milk, in pretty much anything so this creamed honey is absolutely divine. Again, if I'd known, I would've bought every single jar of it. So, as you'd expect at the Abbey, because they don't have tastings at the gift store, you'll have to purchase the food items on faith. I recommend you do.

My wife ordered Prime Rib and I ordered their Rib-Eye Steak and a Caesar salad for us to share. The Caesar salad was absolutely delicious and so big we didn't finish it. The plan was that we would share our main course too. When they placed the plates on the table my jaw dropped. Not only because of the size of the portions, but because of the aroma of the food that had just been placed before us. I took a bite of my steak and couldn't believe my taste buds. (Actually, I am salivating right now as I write this.) I have written before about the various steak houses I have eaten at, some of which are quite famous. So when I say that is the best Rib Eye I have ever eaten, that's saying something. My wife said the same thing about here Prime Rib. Mine was so good I didn't want to share any more with her, but she kept asking so I gave here about five more bites. The Prime Rib was fabulous, but the Rib Eye was truly awesome. The accompanying white potatoes and carrot were just right The was excellent too. It was so good we bought two bottles to take home, which was not our original plan. While we were eating the chef visited our table to make sure everything met our expectations. We all raved about the food. When I asked where they got their beef I understood why it was so good. It is from cattle raised on their own ranch and is certified Organic, Prime Choice. I also learned that they do a Sunday Brunch where they offer an Eggs Benedict dish that includes beef medallions. Sounds yummy. Sorry about this, Jack's Grill, but this is now our #1 choice for steaks. I know we will go there for our anniversary and probably at least one of our birthdays each year. The tasting room looks like it will only seat about fourteen people inside. I am not sure what they do if more people show-up. Maybe they overflow them into the banquet building. If it's nice out, they have patio dinning too. In any even, I would definitely call first to let them know you are coming and about when you expect to arrive. Our meal, including a bottle of wine, came to $107, before tip. The service person was excellent so I tipped accordingly. I know this is a little wordy, but the food was that good. I planned to take some leftovers home, as did my wife. However, there weren't any. My wife always gets a doggy bag. Her plait was clean, as was mine. My 100th review! woot woot!!!…read more This review is for the Bursini Vineyard Wine Festival. The festival is held annually at their vineyard and this was their 17th, held last night. We arrived before 5 pm and were surprised how many people were already there in 100 degree plus weather. Guests were requested to bring a bottle of wine, food or dessert of some sort and a folding chair if possible. I would guess there were hundreds of people there sweating wine as fast as they were drinking it! As soon as it cooled down into the nineties, a long line was formed and food was served buffet style. After the sun went down a live band started playing and there was dancing. All in all it was a nice relaxed evening shared by adults having a good time, enjoying one anothers company and sampling MANY different wines. Just a note...I think Jack's in Redding may start serving their wine...we shall see.

Because they do not allow dogs inside or outside in their patio area I had to wait with my car running and my air on high because I had my puppy with me. The owners are very nice and I understand about their pet policy. It would have been nice to have a glass of wine and a slice of pizza inside! It's still a very nice environment with trivia on Thursdays and all kinds of drinks ( try the ice cold slushies! ). Pizza is always amazing! I will try to leave my puppy with my friend next time I visit!

We tried the Chardonnay, Rose', Merlot, and Harvest Rogue. The tasting is $5 a person and is waived with purchase. Each wine was wonderful and we bought one bottle of each! Their wines were reasonably priced around $20. Also, we called the day before to see if they were open.
