Very long line to get in and no movement in 30 minutes on a Sunday morning. What the heck?

We drove 45 minutes to there today and the kielbasas, the fish and numerous other things were expired, rotting and slimy. I was so upset about the quality of everything. We came here to get Russian/ukrainain/Polish kielbasa and cheese and ended up leaving with canned pickles and some grains. A lot of the items on the shelves were expired too. Overall, things were in very very bad shape and it was disgusting. We will never be coming back here. I would rather get a flight from Memphis back to NYC and load my carry on up with Russian kielbasa and cheese and then fly back to Memphis and it would be cheaper and still fresher than the items at this store. I picked up a container of herring fish in the fridge today and it was covered in a layer of slime. Not oil. Slime. It was disgusting. Some kielbasas were super oxidized and being covered mold. Really really sad about this. The store itself is in a terrible and very unsafe area of Memphis nowadays and I was begging my husband to come with me here for days and we finally made it out here and to see this kind of quality is very upsetting. I was able to spread the word to the other Russian eaters in Memphis so that they pay attention to expiration dates.

UPDATED REVIEW : it's been a while since I have been in here but my husband and I came in for lunch…read moretoday to grab some shawarmas because I have been craving them for a long time now and they were absolutely AMAZING. Still by far my absolute favorite shawarma I've ever had. The meat is so tender and flavorful. The array of pickled veggies was delicious. The fries were great as well! However let's talk about the greatest aspect of this store and it is the hospitality. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and treated as if we were family or knew these people our whole lives. You don't find that in many stores nowadays but Madina Market has had exceptional hospitality from day 1. The store itself is very well stocked, has a vast array of items, fresh produce, beautiful fresh halal meat and the eat in diner attached. I found green plums today for the first time in 26 years that I've been living in America! I can't wait to make a tkemali sauce with the plums now. All in all, this is a great store with the most WONDERFUL people working there and the absolute best shawarmas I've ever had. I'll be back next week for more! Original review from March 18,2021 : Today was my first time coming in to Madina Market & Deli and I am so glad I did! Upon entering, I saw that it was a pretty decent sized store with lots of options for every persons desires. The butcher came up to me to see if I needed any help and he was such a pleasant person to talk to. He walked me through their meat options and what each item was. Their meat is halal so you already know it's going to taste better and be more tender and CLEAN as opposed to regular store bought meat from a large supermarket. They have a small section with some fresh made sweets like baklava (highly recommend) and meat filled pastries and shawarma wraps and even fresh house made falafel! They also have fresh olives and baba ganoush (eggplant dip). I ended up purchasing some meat (which was very fair priced!), baba ganoush, some sweets and meat pastries and shawarma along with some other bits and ends here and there that I've never had before and wanted to try and I just want to say WOW. Everything was absolutely delicious and I will DEFINITELY be coming back. The owner and his wife were SUCH a pleasure to talk to and were SO SO sweet. The store was very clean and just had a nice atmosphere to it. Dont be afraid to ask questions if you want a better explanation of what something is in the store since not all of it is common Memphis food. The staff will be more than happy to help you out and tell you all about the stuff. I had a fabulous first experience at Madina Market and I already can't wait to go back. If you go, definitely grab one of the chicken shawarma wraps! Best I've had!
