Not having a Dairy Queen near me is good & bad all rolled into one . . . Good because I think I'd be here all the time and would end up as big as a house & bad because I love the ice cream that I can't get whenever I want it. With that said, this location is a little older and it shows however when it comes to customer service and the taste of every thing who cares what the building looks like! When I saw the ice fall into my cup I did a happy dance as it's almost like the ice at Sonic which I can eat by the cup full. So we got here in time for the lunch special - got a cheeseburger, fries, a drink & a sundae for $5 . . . If that ain't a deal! I recently visited this Dairy Queen, which cured a 6 year DQ absence. I'm not sure why it took me so long to come back, perhaps I was trying to take Blizzards out of my daily diet, or maybe it's that DQ has limited healthy choices on the menu. Regardless, I had a craving for their dipped ice cream on this hot summer day so I ask myself: why not? It's relatively clean here, the layout near the register (where you order) is dysfunctional. There's 2 or 3 registers in a small 8 to 10 foot counter space and there's a huge pillar right in front of them - so if you have to wait in line it never actually looks like a line - - more like a blob that forms around that pillar. Thanks to my employer, I get 10% off, which is a delight. And their ice cream is 95% fat free - - that's only 5% sin - - until they dip it into that chocolate, which puts you back into the darkside. Top that w/ my lactose intolerance and you'd think that this would be one horrid experience. But on the contrary, it's just a smidgen of chocolate, and I'll deal w/ the digestive tract issues as DQ's dipped cone really hits the spot on a 100 degree day. Will I be back again? They just don't get it. I want to like this DQ and support it but it's a mess. The ceiling is always dripping, the employees are shockingly ignorant, and their drive thru is horror story worthy. I ordered two hot meals and two blizzards in the drive thru. They gave me my blizzards and told me to pull around and wait. I waited 15 minutes and my icecream melted all over the place. Last night I went to the Dairy Queen near down town Temple and ordered a cherry blizzard. They told me they couldn't do that because it was too expensive to make. That's the only time I've been objected to for an order specifically that order in 22 years of ordering it and that includes ordering it from multiple locations in multiple states. I've ordered that particular dessert from that specific location 50+ times over the course of the last 15 years. Even though that is the DQ closest to my neighborhood I will not be returning. They had an expensive transaction last night and it cost them a couple of lifetime customers. I've been coming to the store for at least 15 years for blizzards with my family. My favorite blizzard is cherries chocolate and pecans. They recently stopped using cherries so now I now get strawberries chocolate and pecans. Today I went in with my family and ordered my usual. Employee said she cannot make my favorite, and offered a specialty blizzard subtracting ingredients and then up charge me for ingredients to make my strawberry chocolate and pecan blizzard.
