I requested a refund and was denied because the owner said "you're a big boy... it's your job to make sure you order the right thing". First the bad news. I can't print my BOGO Blizzard coupon they sent today in an email. Tried at least 3 times, and each time I got a DQ error message. Well, I'm so friggin stubborn, yeah, and already obsessing over getting ice cream, so we went anyway. Mr. B wasn't interested in a Blizzard anyway, so what could I have done with an extra Blizzard except watch it melt? Nostalgic moment. The Riverside DQ on Magnolia is probably one of the earlier DQ's ever to open, a small 1950s style, outdoors, walk up to the window, kind of place. It was sunny, there were lines, and it was only 2:30 pm. Hey, doesn't anybody work around here? So, now on to the good news. A "Special" today (Thursday) - 99 cent sundaes, one topping only. Yeah, small serving, but not that small. At that very moment Mr. B amazingly found his appetite. And my craving for a Blizzard went euphemistically out the window. Yes. We both got a small hot fudge. And for 30 cents extra, we could add other toppings. We added big chunks of banana. Total bill, $2.70-something cents. Hey, we can do this again! The hot fudge. Well, it is not the world's best, I've had fudgier. But, for that price, it certainly was not the worst either. I can live with that. I don't know if this 99 cent thing is strictly this location's marketing strategy or if more DQs do it, but it sure works for me. I am doing a happy dance now. read more

Went online to order a cake for my brother. I was having a few concerns with how it would look so I went to call and their phone number was disconnected. I figured, what franchise has such poor management, that they can't even connect the phone. So I called on another phone and got the same voice telling me the phone is disconnected. I don't rhna business myself, but I at least have enough common sense to know that you need communication integrated from consumer to producer. I don't want to assume anything... This has been my favorite Dairy Queen (Ice-Cream spot in general), for over 30 years. I have always loved this throwback location with its old school bleachers on the side and traditional walk up window. However, I went to Dairy queen last night and ordered 5 items for my family and I which included a large blizzard. Once the blizzard was ready and I went to grab my order, the clerk did the blizzard flip and a glob of blizzard plopped onto the counter. I smiled and asked `hey now I get a free blizzard right?` to which she replied `I'm not sure the policy, so I need to check it first.` she asked `are these to go?` I followed her question with `they are to go, but I will wait till you check the policy.` I then got a bunch of flack and attitude from 4 attendants who were all obviously children and shouldn't be in any position regarding customer service. This became a confusing yelling match with 4-5 girls yelling at me. I was not very appreciative of their attitudes and an argument ensued, which ended in me not receiving any free blizzard and I tossed the other 4 items into the trashcan (they actually completely missed the brownie cupfection i ordered, partly due to them all getting involved in my dispute . This was $18.02 tossed into the garbage over a policy that Dairy Queen has on there own website which wasn't honored. They should have at least 1 adult working every shift who is qualified to handle these issues and never allow a bunch of children with little reasoning skills to run the shop. I just want my refund for the entire order that I never got to enjoy, they can keep the free blizzard and I will not bother to return to this location again. read more

Always lots of people here, fast and tasty. Only complaint is there are more than a few rude customers who feel they are so macho they must cut in front of the order line (see it all the time, and, it's always the same kind of male meatheads). Owner may want to seriously consider establishing some painted markings to support a better queued order line (cheap and effective). Otherwise, this place will take you back to the good old days. A Magnolia Avenue Mecca. Damn this place for being 40 feet from where I work. Even when we're all attempting to diet, we cannot resist the call of Dairy Queen. I've loved this place so much for so long, 10 years ago I wrote an article in my HS newspaper about how a chocolate Oreo blizzard could fill any void in my life. One of the only classic-style Dairy Queen ice cream stands left, this DQ refused to buckle down under corporate pressure and renovate to become one of the typical Dairy Queens you see everywhere else. The management is super nice, though you will never see them actually there. The workers are all high schoolers who look poisitively miserable but it doesn't spoil one ounce of your favorite sweet treat. The last time I got a blizzard a younger girl was making it and when I tasted it tasted like pure vanilla which it wasn't what I ordered and I knew she missed out on a ingredient and it was watery. Dairy Queen is a mainstay of Americana. Its been around for decades, and this little one on Magnolia is one of the wife and I's favorites! It harkens back to what ice cream places started out as...little stands on the side of the road. Granted, this DQ is a bit more than that..but not by much! Its this little "blink and you'll miss it" kinda place on Magnolia Avenue, right near the Brockton Arcade. Essentially its an oversized enclosed ice cream stand..and I'll agree with a previous yelper that the teenagers they have working there *do* look slightly miserable and overworked; but I will say they have always been friendly and polite. Also...no indoor seating; you stand on the sidewalk and enjoy your dessert, or eat it in your car, or sit on some of the bleacher seats they have on the side of the building and actually chat with and get to know yer neighbors! What a concept! My wife and I love stopping here for their delicious frosty treats when we are tootling through Riverside. My only complaint is that they don't have a Brazier. I do love their hamburgers from time to time and I miss that...but then, as small a building as it is it would probably just make the kids working there even more miserable especially in the summer.
