You can tell from the way it looks from the outside (completely walk up or drive thru only) that it hasn't changed much since then. Even thought DQ is headquartered in Edina, MN, the first overall location was in Joliet, IL. But that one closed, so this is sort of the flagship location. Then when the 2 items I ordered finally came out the portions were not to size. Glass Filled 3/4 full. I waiting at least 5 minutes. For a Sundae and Dilly Bar. 3 more people came up after me. They made them ring the doorbell before opening the door to take there order. HORRIBLE Service! Will NOT go here again. Shocked this place is still open. Roseville needs some real food locations. I had just finished washing my car at Solar Wash-- a block away, when I spotted this tiny adorable DQ. More excited when I read on their banner they were the original one in MN in 1947. Staff was very nice and fast efficient calm despite the huge group that appeared out of nowhere at 9:30 pm‼ I have tried MANY DQ's recently. I realize when I read other comments about mistakes made on their orders I now think I know why. 1. The staff put in very long hours ESP in the tiny DQ's. They are burned out from the constant crush of ( yes great!) business thanks to improved taste / flavors /quality / ingredients. 2. They are young-- not seasoned employees used to the crush pace, and maybe they are not getting enough sleep ( "mom" speaking, sorry) I walked up to the window and asked her if they offered my favorite $6 lunch combo with "XYZ". She said yes. I asked could I delete the soda and make my mini sundae larger? She said no. So I ordered my combo and told her to make my mini sundae with strawberries. She nodded her head. I paid and waited. When I picked everything up it was minus my BELOVED sundae (!!) so I nicely asked where it was? She said," OH, our combo you ordered is just two chili dogs with soda and chips, only the child's combo of one hot dog comes with a small sundae and chips." I did not argue ( toooo tired) just said ok. Yes, they are young and tired. Need more sleep‼‼ read more

If I could get this place, zero stars, I would!!! do not go here!!!! We waited in min for a very long time for two groups to be served in front of us. To be greeted by a nice women. She was new and having trouble finding some of the items we ordered. Then the man came over and demanded for us to review our entire order. I had four children with you had to call them back only to be treated even more rudely!! We don't know what you are out of unless you tell us but acting like an entitled jerk worker like we should have known. Also yelling at my 7 year old to change his order and hurry up isn't helping. This is our local DQ and we often bike here. It claims to be the first DQ in MN and looks like it. There is no inside seating but there are tables outside. They can get pretty nasty. On this night, one of the first 70 + degree days there was a really long line but it went relatively quickly. Usually there is not such a long wait. We had blizzards as usual and they are great! I really hope that they get the firecrackers blizzard back this summer. Otherwise, also had the warm food options here too and they are your standard DQ food. read more

This DQ used to really good but lately (and I don't mean because of the pandemic cause this has been going on way before that) they are just always out of things. For goodness sake, please restock! They seem to always be out of things like hot dogs, chili, dilly bars and flavors, or something is always broken. It kind of gets ridiculous after a while. Like, why don't you tell me what you do have on the menu and I'll order what you have in stock. Then their credit card machine is broken and they only take cash but you better just have twenties because they don't take large bills. They also don't put up signs so customers and kids wait in line for a while only to be told they can't take their form of payment. The workers are also quite rude. Do better. You're a neighborhood DQ, one of the oldest in the city. People in the neighborhood want to support you. Make it easier for people to support you. read more

If you like stingy portions and employees who could care less about you or your business, then this is the place for you. And let's not forget a BIG tip jar prominently sitting on the order counter as if they aren't already getting a fair amount of my $$$. Very tacky. When I purchased a small blizzard (for $4.00 plus change) on Sunday, I was shocked to see that the ice cream concoction inside barely made it to the top of the cup. In fact, the ice cream was actually concave and looked like a sinkhole. No kidding! I told the server that the portion was too small for a blizzard and mentioned that it didn't look as ample as the blizzard advertising photos. She immediately launched a rapid-fire delivery of sarcastic sass and defiance on me and stated that it met all of the portion standards that she learned in her DQ blizzard training. I was dumbfounded that anyone in a customer service position would be so rude and so NOT customer-oriented. So, I asked her if I could speak with the manager. She said, "I AM the manager." Well, little lady, you need to go back to DQ school for training in both Management and Customer Service. While you are at it, refresh yourself in blizzard portioning. I run my own business, and if I EVER treated a customer the way that you did, I would not have any customers. You now have one less customer in me--and my friend who was with me at the time. We will NEVER return. And we will tell others about our experience. Too bad that you are the face and the voice representing the owner of this iconic Dairy Queen location. read more

I ordered an 8" Thin Mint Cake for a birthday celebration, to be picked up on 6/20/21 at noon. Went to pick it up and waited, and waited. Finally the young woman came back saying they had misplaced my order and I could come back to get it at 4 PM. I declined a cake in another flavor they had on hand. So disappointing. But I said I'd come back. In the meantime we had our birthday brunch, my 3 guests went home. At 4 I called but was only able to leave a message. Said I'd like to know if the cake was ready. No call back, so I called again and said the party had been over for hours and as I did not know if cake was ready I wasn't going to pick it up. A simple, "we're sorry" would have gone a long way. Answering the phone or even responding to messages would go a long way. Am feeling like this place needs some simple customer service training. Even driving by this Dairy Queen makes me smile and want to stop - even if I'm not wanting ice cream. This is the best DQ that I've been too - I used to work for a different DQ back in my high school and early college days as a manager and since doing so I am super picky about my DQ "experience" when I visit other DQ's. This one never lets me down. The staff are great and friendly even on the hottest and busiest summer day and the service is always prompt. Plus, they make awesome curls on top of their cones! Although I typically prefer to patronize a local mom and pop store, DQ is always a great option and they are usually owned locally. Last night after working hard in the yard, we decided that the only way to cool us down was to walk to DQ and get a Blizzard. This DQ is one of the oldest ones in the state...and it doesn't have a drive-thru...what a great old time experience. When we arrived, we had a hard time deciding on one of the many great flavors (or combinations). But we decided to try the Blizzard of the Month, the German Chocolate Blizzard. This had little chunks of cake and perfect amounts of coconut and pecans for a nice crunch. Although this wasn't my favorite Blizzard, it was very good and I'd get it again. More and more Dairy Queens are losing their quality of food and service. This is one of them! It used to be always good quality and that is why I patronized this place--until now. I went there last night. I had to ring a buzzer which took several minutes for the lady to respond and noticed the cheesy-begging for tip jar out front. I ordered a simple chocolate dipped cone. The presentation was horrid: it was leaning with no swirl on top plus the chocolate was all over the cone. The ice cream was way too soft and melted faster than usual. What happened? I notice a different staff was operating the DQ and my recommendation is fire them or get a real manager to oversee what they are doing! Another metro DQ off my list! read more

I worked at a DQ in Siren, Wisconsin so I know how this all works. First, the customer service is actually pretty great. All of the people I have talked to at the window (I've gone a few times w my family) have been very friendly. My issues are - they wouldn't honor my coupon on the back of my concert ticket, and they are really stingy with the toppings. I also think they have gotten pretty over priced so I typically just go to Cub down the road and grab a bucket of ice cream so I know there's that but honoring a coupon isn't going to be an end all for them. read more

This location is my favorite Dairy Queen, and I have been to many DQs. The architecture is neat, and it's lovely to sit at one of the picnic tables and enjoy a frosty treat while listening to classic rock in the summertime. The owner can often be found behind the counter, and he makes the best Blizzards around. They are open for the 2013 season! read more

Okay there is not much not to love about this historic and iconic DQ. Not only is this Minnesotas first DQ, they kept a lot of the original character. Growing up this was the go to spot that we would stop at to grab a cone after leaving the zoo. I walked up to the window and ordered a cherry mr misty float-no questions asked I was delivered one in a flash. They have their service dialed in. Order window then over to the pick up window. The best part about our trip to this DQ were the people gathered outside sitting at tables enjoying their ice cream under the neon lights. There isn't a drive thru you have to actually get out of your car and order. If that's not your thing? There are plenty of modern DQ's that will accommodate. Bring the kids, bring your family. SHAME ON YOU DQ! On Monday, 3/16 it was locally publicized that DQ's across the area were celebrating their Anniversary with FREE CONES-ALL DAY. As a fan of our neighborhood DQ, my family and I, and 75 others in line, joyfully went to patron the Lexington/Larpenteur Dairy Queen. It was a cold, rainy night, one that definitely was not ice cream cone worthy, but nonetheless, the kids had heard the commercials enough times to know that this night was all about the free cones and we were going to take advantage. When we arrived KARE 11 had JUST FINISHED taping a segment, interviewing this location for their "FREE CONE EVENT"...and the minute the cameras turned off, a scibbled, hand-written sign was taped up in the window that said, "OUT OF FREE CONES." YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. There 75 of us stood, many elderly, a group of disabled adults, kids, and parents. The crowd erupted with anger and could not believe what we were seeing. The dumb girls behind the counter stated that they hit their "alloted amount of free cones" so apparently, this DQ had a different take on their Anniversary Day of free cones. While the scribbled sign remained, so did the large branded DQ posters announcing the free cone day. My husband promptly told the girl to "TAKE DOWN YOUR FREE SIGNS!" and she acted like she could not hear him. It was disgusting behaviour. It was lously, unprofessional business practice and one that should be repremanded by DQ corporate. While we walked back to our car (we were NOT going to spend one penny at this joint!), we grabbed the camera crew from KARE 11 and alerted to them to the shady business practice that occured the minuted they stop taping. They said they had seen the scribbled sign and heard the upset from the crowd. I told them to share THAT story on the news and they agreed to share with their broadcasting team. We then patroned another local business and their cones were 10'xs better, anyways. This DQ is our local Como neighbor Summer spot. And from now on, we will boycott this location, along with dozens of others in the area that suffered the crummy bait and switch that night. The reputation at this location went right out the window. It's one thing to upset adults, but kids? Elderly? The disabled in wheelchairs that made special arrangements to go to this location that night? Poor, poor, poor business practice and one that we REFUSE to support. I have also sent this to DQ corporate. This new owner could use a lesson in ownership and building loyal customers. read more

Thanks to the crew of this DQ. Yesterday my young niece had her hand slammed in the car door just after we arrived. One young man gave us a cup of ice that we could use to keep the swelling down. Another guy found a plastic bag and filled it with ice. Both cheerfully helped us and also kept serving other customers. When things calmed down, we were able to get our treats, including a perfect cone with rainbow sprinkles for my niece. We will be back! read more
