I was in town on business and looked up restaurants close to my hotel. This one popped up and was about five minutes from me. It is located in a small strip plaza and you just walk in to be seated. They are extremely busy with people seated to eat and to-go orders. When I arrived, someone was cleaning tables, taking payment, and delivering food to tables. This was all being done by the same person. He directed me to a table, gave me a menu, and brought me a glass of water with a straw. He was moving about the restaurant taking orders, cashing people out, cleaning tables, and delivering food the entire time I was there. He came to get my order after about ten minutes. I ordered the Seoul sampler with the soy garlic sauce on the chicken. I thoroughly enjoyed this meal. The chicken was cooked and seasoned to perfection. It was crunchy and flavorful. There was a lot of food too. I ended up taking some back to my hotel and eating it later. It was hard not going back to this restaurant during my stay, but I wanted to try different places. It took about fifteen minutes for my food to arrive at the table and bulgogi fries came out first on a separate plate. This sampler is a good representation of several of their menu items. I recommend getting it if you are new to this restaurant. I paid $46 after adding a tip. read more

Nothing was authentic Korean food in the restaurant. Bibimbap was served with chopped lettuce inside, and the scrambled eggs?! And not sure what kind of spicy sauce the store got mixed in, it tasted very black peppery. This dish is just too well- known, and you just can't miss it. Like the basically sauce would be gochujang. The fried chicken also very disappointing, ordered both Yangnyeom mix and chicken strips, the meat was tough, not fresh made, it's like reheated/refried, they also don't offer dipping sauce any real Korean fried chicken dipping sauce. We used to visit this location once or twice a week when it first opened and were always impressed with the food and service. Unfortunately, over time, both seem to have declined. During our last few visits, the wings were just okay. The batter was noticeably thicker than it used to be, which took away from the flavor and texture we had originally enjoyed. We assumed those visits might have just been off days and decided to give it another chance. This past week, we stopped in specifically for wings and also wanted to try the Korean donut and sweet potato fries. The restaurant was not busy--we were one of only four tables--but the food still took quite a while to arrive. When it did, both the donut and sweet potato fries appeared over-fried. The donut was very dark and looked nothing like the photos. When I asked our server if it was supposed to look that way, he didn't think anything was wrong with it but offered to replace it if we wanted. We accepted, and the replacement looked much better, although it was missing the sugar topping shown on the menu. At that point, I didn't bother mentioning it or the over-fried sweet potato fries. The wings were decent, but once again the batter was much heavier than what we remembered from our earlier visits. After several disappointing experiences, my family decided this would be our last visit to this location. We've never had any issues at the Mall of America location, but unfortunately the Roseville restaurant has not maintained the same quality that originally made us regular customers. read more

Korean cuisine is having quite a moment, and I'm eating it up - literally - so I was thrilled when several of my curious Caucasian friends suggested meeting at Bonchon for a session of Korean Food 101. The interior was bright and open. The attendants were friendly, but often either forgot things or were simply too busy between all the occupied tables. We ordered *so* much food. Our table was covered in bright white plates and bowls with so many colorful savory-sweet delights. Unfortunately, the chicken was dry, overcooked to a rubbery chew. The tteokbokki had a commercial sweetness to it, which tracked, given that this was a massive chain. I love ordering bao buns, but these were subpar to the point of being everyone's least favorite addition to the table. The intention behind the sauces and the overall idea of the tteokbokki were what everyone loved most. This is a highly busy location, and for a reason. Their food in consistently great and has become our go-to location to bring first-timers to. Their fried chicken is extra crispy and full of flavor. Being Minnesotan, I like their soy garlic best as the hot and spicy is wonderfully flavorful but too spicy for me. We have tried nearly everything on the menu. Our least favorite (although still wonderful) were the boneless wings. The potstickers are amazing. Try the sticky buns too! You will enjoy them! The bowls are great and full of flavor...and the tacos! You HAVE to try the tacos!!! The staff are wonderful and remember our drink orders from our frequent visits. I went to the location in Roseville for the first time today (I usually go to the one in Maple Grove) and the food was nowhere near as good. Some items were fried for a little too, and there seemed to be no communication between the servers.What was most disappointing was that I ordered take out food to bring home to my boyfriend and the "chicken strips" i got were nuggets overcooked and dry. Been craving tteokbokki so we decided to try out this place. The vibe was very casual and the servers were super nice and quick with ours and others needs. The food didn't take too long to come out and came out steaming hot! My bf tried pork belly bao buns for the first time and loved how the combination of the fluffy bun went with the crispy pork belly. I absolutely loved my tteokbokki and it was nice and spicy to my liking (: We also shared the Bulgogi Fries and it was delicious but I think I'll ask for extra spicy mayo next time, but that's just my preference! The BEST place!! This is such a comfort food place. There is tons and seating and the service is incredibly quick. They had our food out in under 10 minutes. I LOVE Bonchon. I do feel like some locations are better than others and this one is one of the better ones. Staff are are always cool, friendly and attentive! I will stay sometimes they can do a better job cleaning between tables like there's times the seats are a mess with food crumbs & a bit sticky but otherwise it's okay. We almost always order the wings half/half (half soy garlic, half spicy), side of coleslaw, seasoned fries and fried rice. The soy garlic wings are my favorite but I love spicy as well! The chicken comes out hot and super crispy! The coleslaw isn't anything special but it goes well with the chicken. The fries are breaded, crispy & seasoned well. I headed here at the request of my 9yo kiddo who is a chicken connoisseur. She loves the chicken here at Bonchon and she is never wrong. Unfortunately, this kid is also super picky so when we asked to have a couple pieces without sauce they said they couldn't. I ended up getting plain and Korean BBQ. I would have like to have had gotten the Soy Garlic too as a sauce on the side or on the other half except a few pieces but that wasn't an option. Despite that the chicken was tasty, crispy, yet moist inside - so good! We also order the Bulgogi fries which were delish and an order of Japchae also completely approved. I've had this place on my "to try" list for quite sometime and finally tried it for dinner the other night. Pros: Online ordering Family meal package option Friendly service Easy parking lot Cons: Pricey Food ordered: Family meal with two sides- fries and white rice. Extra side of fried rice. The fried rice reminded me of something I might pick up at a Cub foods. Didn't taste like the fried rice I am used to. Chicken was okay- I wasn't wowed by it and to me it didn't have a ton of flavor. Coleslaw was okay- but nothing wow. I guess I just missed the wow and flavor factor. For the price, I wanted to be able to say that I would definitely go back. The chicken here was fairly dry and lacked sauce. Although it had a decent texture outside and crunch, the inside was slimy and felt old and/or expired. The service was alright, best if you like eating in bar settings. They play various sports on the TVs behind the counter top. There are some booths and high tops for variety in seating. The food arrived very quickly although there was almost nobody in the restaurant so there's no good indication of wait time. My partner and I have been big fans of Bonchon ever since visiting the Maple Grove location in Arbor Lakes. The chicken there is incredible, it's crunchy and adequately spicy, and the staff is great. This location however was a letdown. Firstly, the flavor of the chicken was completely different than the other location, most likely due to the difference in cooks. The flavor was lacking body and had an almost burnt taste. It didn't help that it was lacking sauce, something I immediately noticed. Next, the texture was off. It had a very thick, flour breading. The batter would do better with more panko included. They tasted like chicken strips I could have gotten at the grocery store and made at home. The chicken was slimy on the inside and tasted old/expired. The staff was mediocre at best, poured water when needed. On top of all of this, the establishment was blasting 2016 Charlie Puth the entire time. Would overall not recommend this place to others. Will not be returning. read more

TLDR; Just go and eat here! Was running ragged doing Labor Day shopping, on the verge of being hangry when I suddenly spotted this place while at a stop light. My husband (particularly critical of the restaurant scene, hard to please), our kid (indecisive, moody teen), and I (completely normal) waltzed in and were greeted promptly by a beautiful waiter. The restaurant is very clean, spacious, laid-back and cozy. We chose to dine in and were seated, given menus and drink orders were taken. Seamlessly done within the span of mere minutes. The menu is limited to a few popular and safe Korean dishes, easy to read, has pictures and descriptions of the food items, and I found it pleasant to not be overwhelmed by endless choices (as is the norm when in a typical Korean restaurant, imo). What we ordered: Japchae - I LOVE japchae and this was made perfectly. The mushrooms, the bell peppers, the spinach, the beef, the glass noodles! What's not to love? I was in heaven. One of my ultimate comfort foods. Chicken Katsu - We're more used to pork katsu but this was very tasty and the chicken was surprisingly moist. Huge serving over rice and I was happy to see the kid inhale half of it. Small fried chicken combo - We did the half and half (soy garlic & spicy). The main reason the kid only ate half of their chicken katsu was because they were also inhaling the fried chicken and mumbling about how good it was. Lots of compliments from both the kid and husband about this dish. I knew Korean fried chicken was something special, something transcending KFC/Popeyes/American fried chicken, and this was proof. Amazing, amazing deliciousness. Covered in glaze but still crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Loved the two flavors too. The spicy is quite bearable (2-3/10 imo), stays on the tongue, pleasant build up and doesn't overwhelm the rest of the flavors. Takoyaki - Love. This. Many restaurants can't make this right--oftentimes the interior is too undercooked and all I can taste is liquid batter. They cooked this very well here and it was very tasty, and there were several pieces of delicious octopus in each ball. I took some home and they were still so delicious after getting cold. Bulgogi sliders - The picky husband loved this. He asked to hold the coleslaw on the side, thinking it would be better without, but ended up adding the coleslaw to it. The crunchy freshness of the cucumber and coleslaw played really, really well with the beef and spicy mayo. Received cubed, picked radish as a side to the fried chicken. This is probably the only thing the kid didn't like, but I'm someone who lives for banchan (small Korean side dishes) and I enjoyed it. The owner (I think that's who he was?) came around and checked in on everyone (literally everyone, even those patrons just picking up an order) with a kindness and energetic exuberance that blindsided me. Him getting us water and more drinks while making light banter was the icing on the cake, and it really made us feel welcome. Early on, I had noted in my mind that if I had to find anything that was "meh" about this place, it would be the semi-loud music as it was difficult to hear the waiter and even my table mates (plus I like to eavesdrop on your conversation, yes you)... but that issue resolved itself shortly after that thought without my mentioning. So now if I HAD to find something "meh"... perhaps the size of the diced pickled radish? Really? Bathroom was pleasant and clean. I liked the scented diffusers and candlelight in the mens restroom (womens were occupied by a noisy, defiant little kid and their exhausted mother, whom I sympathized with but didn't bother to wait for). Clean and bright, well decorated establishment, wonderful staff, AMAZING food. I've been to too many MN restaurants (overhyped, hipster, gastropubs, etc you name it) over the last couple of years and I have often left disappointed or just plain irritated at the food and service. I'm so effing tired of this and I'm glad many of those restaurants are now gone. This realization only came after I noticed how much I enjoyed the food and dining experience here at Bonchon--it's been a long time since I had such a positive reaction to a restaurant in MN. My husband who has been in the restaurant business from the front of the house to the back and is always critical (call it sensitive) about every aspect of it had only good things to say, and that speaks volumes.
