This is one of the much better Dairy Queen's you can go to if you live in NJ. This location not only has the entire menu for if you want dinner or desert. It has nice decorations too within the inside from the pictures to the amount of booths and seats inside. There is so much to choose from like burgers, to chicken fingers, ice cream, cold drinks, and everything else you could possibly want from DQ. The service overall is good too with no complaints as they're always well staffed and have plenty of people keep the lines down. When it comes to complaints there really aren't any as they got plenty of spaces and never too busy. Only criticism is that it can be pretty cold on the inside but that is expected because it's to keep the ice cream cakes and everything from melting. So there we were. A man and his boy on a Monday afternoon at the Dairy Queen Grill & Chill in Hamilton Marketplace. We weren't looking for salvation or spiritual awakening. Just ice cream. The Turtle Pecan Cluster for me. Royal Reese's Fluffernutter for the lad. The ordering process was painless. The waiting, uneventful. The tables though. Imagine a game show where the challenge is to find a clean surface in under thirty seconds. We lost. We picked the least sticky of the available options and called it a win. A young woman emerged from the back, bearing our Blizzards like they were holy artifacts. She raised one skyward to perform the sacred Upside Down Test, that moment of Dairy Queen bravado meant to prove their ice cream's virility. Unfortunately gravity had other ideas. Our server reversed course at the last possible second when the Blizzard, perhaps suicidal, made a break for it. She gave a look that said both "oops" and "please pretend you didn't see that" and vanished into the kitchen. Despite the theatrical mishap, the ice cream itself remained undisturbed and edible. Mine was fine. Not a revelation. Just a polite mix of turtle, pecan, and processed dairy. My son's Royal Reese's Fluffernutter, on the other hand, was the true star of the afternoon. Personally I think DQ is pretty bad as far as fast food goes. Are the fries even real potatoes or some heavily processed formed and bleached food product? My wife and I have come here a couple of times for an after dinner ice cream treat. Unfortunately, we have had a few issues each time but the most recent one today really was the most irritating. The drive thru was so backed up, so we went inside. Once it was our turn at the register to order, our cashier was stuffing his face with chicken nuggets after dipping them in sauce. I have never seen something like this before. The other cashier I assume was jealous and wanted some of this food and started bickering with him to share. I am leaving one star as Zero is not an option. We used to eat here once or twice a month, we will no longer eat here. Today we stopped in for dinner, and as you are supposed to do before you eat or prepare food we washed our hands before we ordered. While I was in the rest room I saw an employee come from the stall, pass me as I was drying my hands and walk right out of the restroom WITHOUT washing his hands. These are food handler basics that you must wash your hands after using the restroom. After going to see if he was a food handler and it turns out he was and he did not wash his hands once behind the counter it was time to leave. This is a great DQ, as it is well-maintained and very clean. Additionally, it has an outdoor patio on the Rt. 130 side. The food is delivered with table service, making it even better. The meals came out first, then as we were almost done, the blizzards came out. I showed the manager and asked if that was really all I get. He said it was the correct amount and that I could BUY more. Horrible from someone who worked at a fast food restaurant before, if you're preparing the food you need to have gloves on. How is the person from the front counter where is handling money prepping my food without gloves! Then when i told him i saw him without gloves touching my food he got mad and caught an attitude. Manager said he will handle it as he was putting gloves on himself then after everything he took the gloves off again and started prepping the food without gloves. Never eating here again. But my review is for a nice place to go with nice people at the drive-thru window, and those things count to. We like to go to this DQ even if the drive-thru lines are long. The people working at the window have been friendly and courteous no matter how busy it gets. We grew up enjoying DQ cones and shakes, then added other items later, and still love it all. I brought a $5 box meal from this dairy queen and with my meal i had a fresh brewed iced tea. I like to use my own cup when i went to pour my drink into my personal cup there were bugs in my drink. Ordered an ice cream cake with ALL vanilla, NO chocolate. Was told yes they can do vanilla crumble in it instead. Picked it up and stored in our freezer for a month. Just went to cut it for moms birthday today and a bunch of chocolate inside. Called them and a lady manager said without the receipt she did not know what to do for us and would not bother to find the receipt in their records. My mom specified all vanilla for her 80th. They gave me a purple cake with purple lettering. When I asked the cashier if the order said pink writing, she confirmed that it did. Yesterday I went to DQ in Hamilton Square Place, NJ. I purchased a simple medium Turtle Caramel Blizzard. I made a special request with the cashier to tell whomever was making the blizzard to portion out the turtle caramel (half in the mix with the ice cream and the other half on top of the blizzard after it is mixed with a cover to go). The cashier immediately said "oh you want extra toppings, I said NO, that would be excessively sweet and I reiterated how I wanted my blizzard. She spoke to a senior (really old) person who I presumed was a "Manager" and it turns out Mr. Bill (I learned his name after I came back to the store to get his name) is the "owner" of the location. Well let me tell you all about Mr. Bill and his lack of professionalism and tact. He approached me and asked what I ordered and I told him very nicely what I had ordered from the cashier. He goes to speak with the person who would be responsible for making the blizzard and says at least two times the customer wants half of the topping in the middle of the mix and the other half of the topping on top at the end. Ultimately, it did not come out this way after waiting a long time for the order. Mr. Bill hands comes over to me and instead of apologizing for the situation does not offer much of anything (he's actually right in line with being a piece of DEAD WOOD) so I calmly (and I emphasize CALMLY stated to Mr. Bill that I've purchased Blizzards from other locations (most notably Freehold, NJ location before) and they've had no problems with my orders. Mr. Bill wakes up from his senior moment and unprofessionally tells me "to go there the next time instead". He does this in front of all of the other customers waiting. My response initially to Mr. Bill was I will never come back to this location again and I took my order and left. When I brought the Blizzard to my wife waiting by a table on the far end of the restaurant I told her what had occurred. She said to me if I had known what happened, I would have asked for a refund and walked out. She was angry for the experience I went through and we left the restaurant. When we all got out to the parking lot I put my family safely in our car and went back in to attempt to speak with "Bill" once again and obtain his credentials. He was not to be seen walking on the floor. I asked for assistance of one of the workers. I asked a worker who this older person was, and his response was "Oh, that's Mr. Bill, he is the owner of the store". In my opinion Bill has no experience with customers, or merely is beyond his days of working/owning a location. I watched the whole situation unfold right in front of my eyes and I can make my own decisions for his lack of customer service skills, his lack of leadership and his lack of judgement in hiring people who cannot comprehend how to fulfill a customers order. Remember in business The Customer is Always Right (especially when you are a paying customer). I WILL NEVER AGAIN RETURN TO THE HAMILTON SQUARE PLACE, NJ LOCATION as it is rundown and mismanaged by someone who needs to turn in his apron! Depending on the response I receive from DQ Corporate Headquarters, my family and I of course might not ever return to DQ again. The rating speaks for itself. This is by far the WORST Dairy Queen I have ever been to! I live 7 minutes away from this Dairy Queen and I now drive all the way to Millstone just to get a DQ ice cream, which is about a 15 minute drive for me. Why, you ask? Because the Millstone DQ actually listens and not once have they messed up my order. Hamilton DQ has unfortunately messed up my order the past 3 days in a row. Sunday, Monday and now today Tuesday. I called Sunday with a complaint that all 3 of my ice creams were made incorrectly and completely MELTED (it was only 73 degrees out Sunday night). The manager apologized and said to come up Monday for free ice cream. Monday they again messed up my order. Giving my husband the wrong ice cream entirely and again the ice cream was melted. So much so, it was more like a milk shake. Again, I was offered another opportunity to come up and correct the issue. Today we want, yet again, and they again were unable to get a simple order of three blizzards right! What the hell? How difficult is it to make a damn ice cream?! This time they were not melted, however, the concept of a blizzard is to have the chunks of chocolate, cookie dough or whatever you order mixed throughout the ice cream. Nope, not at Hamilton DQ! They just throw the crap on top and that's it. So you pay $5 and change for a large ice cream with just a blob of topping and plain vanilla or chocolate ice cream sitting underneath. All three times they did this with a total of 9 blizzards (3 each day). It's absolutely pathetic that my family and I couldn't even enjoy an ice cream. The worst part is, no one seemed to care enough to even check the product and improve it. They girl just handed us a cup full of melted ice cream as it was dripping down the side of the cup and all over the counter and the ground. Of course she was happy to take my money though all $18 of it. Don't wast your money here. You'd be better off going to McDonald's down the road and getting a simple (and cheaper) McFlurry.
