This is the coziest little brunch spot in Calgary! They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, but since it's a small place, be prepared to wait a bit for a table but it's absolutely worth it. They also serve lunch and dinner so if i'm ever back in Calgary ill definitely have to give those menus a try. If you order coffee, it comes from their neighboring café, Pocket Cafe, which is such a cute concept. Everything on the brunch menu looked amazing, but my friends and I all decided on the Hillhurst Breakfast Sammy--and it was so good. The croissant bun really makes the sandwich!

Great food and service! The salmon Benedict was amazing and the coffee from Pocket coffee next door was super fresh and flavorful! Awesome place to stop if you're looking for a cozy cafe with some good food!

This little hole in the wall cafe is so cute and cozy. We went for breakfast and sat on the patio. The food was delicious and the perfect serving size to not be too full. The staff were very friendly and efficient with their service. Will definitely be going back to try one of their dinner specials.

A neighborhood gem! Great coffee and tasty breakfast eats-we had the tostadas and baked oatmeal with berries. The team is friendly and welcoming. We were able to enjoy some lovely weather sitting at one of their tables outside. We look forward to coming back!

a burger and fries on a plate

Great food ! we ordered the DL burger, kids grilled cheese( which was really good and sized large despite being for kids), and tostadas! All we're really good. We also ordered the creamsicle and strawberry milkshake, but these weren't that good, on the watery side and artificial tasting. Great service otherwise and would def come back for the good eats!

Cute diner located off the beaten path in Kensington. My fried chicken sandwich was excellent but the French Fries were rather soggy. My lunch partner loved his chicken naanwich! The reason for only 4 stars is that the restaurant is tiny and doesn't take reservations so you really take your chances coming here that there will be an available table.

Green tea - nice touch with the real flowers on the table

Great place for Sunday brunch. Outdoor seating today was available in the beautiful summer weather. Indoors is noisy but still good. I had the "All in" omelette - a little dry but good to have it made. Maybe I should have asked specifically to not have it cooked so thoroughly. My friend had the French toast - blueberry sweet version (there's also a saltier/savoury version. "Bottomless coffee" is offered for $3.50 which is interesting. I prefer green tea and it's great they had "mighty leaf" green tea. For water, they have you drink out of those glass mason jars, which is different. Lineup started happening at 10;30, place opens at 10, which is when we arrived. So if you want to grab a spot, it's good practice to be there earlier rather than later. Overall, nice little place for a brunch.

The food is good but not as good as the prices charged - fountain drinks especially pricey. Nice atmosphere.

This past Saturday night, a group of us visited Free House after a busy day with family, in-laws,…read moreand friends (none of us are fussy eaters and every one of us enjoys exploring new and unique restaurants). The experience was incredibly disappointing owing to a bewildering change in the menu. Gone from the menu are the delicious flatbreads, most sandwiches and other pub fare that they did so well. Also gone are the traditional side dishes that you would expect to find any pub restaurant. Quite disappointingly, we were shocked to find that a new "sharables" menu, which was disjointed, massively overpriced, and by some measure insulting (i.e. see the $11 dollar Pringles and onion dip appetizer, which is an unopened small can of pringles and a bowl of uninspiring dip that tastes about the same as the store bought plastic containers). The only recognizable menu items were the hamburger and a Ruben ($18 dollars each) that come with no sides or garnish and, as I've noted you can't even order fries or anything reasonable on the side. Literally a hamburger on a side plate. There are some more eclectic menu items that might be appropriate if you went to (and were in the mood for) a modern fusion tapas restaurant, but if you're in the mood for a relaxed pub atmosphere, most of these will miss the mark. The food itself is okay at best, but certainly not worth the exorbitant prices. It seems to me that management decided to go this sharables route to increase revenue (higher prices) and decrease costs (because there is fractionally less on your plate). The problem with this new income model is that I will never (ever) go to Free Houseagain with this clown-car of a menu, so any early increase in revenue will be short lived as I don't expect there would be many return customers. From what I can discern, management seems to be targeting $50 or $60 per customer for a meal and a drink, so expect to pay about that much or more if you are looking to walk away relatively satiated. We chose Free Housefor a relaxed dinner with family after an important and busy day. The menu is absurd and none of us plan on returning. Overall, I do not recommend Free Housewith the menu in its current state - it is RIDICULOUS. When I am in the mood for spending this kind of money on this kind of food I will go to a restaurant where they know how to do it and do it better. A can of pringles? Really? Talk about mailing it in.

Cold cuts, sardines and cheese served, the place is full of young young, smiling people listening to unobtrusive music. Make sure you find the stairs from the street level to get here. Oh, and they have Les Robarts by Suenen. I had to visit four wine stores in Champagne to get two bottles of that. Good luck finding that anywhere else.

We were greeted by a group of bartenders (who all happened to be wearing toques) when we walked in, and I felt both welcomed and slightly out of place (no toque). The cocktails were meticulously crafted--priced at $15-20 a drink, it's on par with bigger cities like Vancouver and Toronto, but they also live up to the standard. Honestly, the highlight of our visit to Missy's was the Missy's This That charcuterie board. Each piece of cured meat was sliced impossibly thin, the olives were meaty and delicious, and the cheeses were carefully selected to complement everything. I loved that it also came with a side of thick cut bread and pickled vegetables. One of the best charcuterie boards I've had at a restaurant for sure. Not cheap but worth the pretty penny on a slightly fancy night out.
