I came by myself on a Saturday morning and sat at the bar. From my vantage point I had the absolute pleasure of eavesdropping on the staff. They all appeared to genuinely enjoy each other. I want to call out Tammy in particular for her attentiveness and encouragement to the rest of the staff. It's one of my favourite places for brunch in Calgary. I like the atmosphere and the customer service is awesome. The best time to get there on weekends is 12 and after. Before that it can be very busy and you may experience a long wait time. Since it's located in a trendy area and close to downtown, parking may be a little challenging and hard. I personally recommend walking there if you're close to the area or it's possible. The quality of the food is pretty awesome and my favourite dish is the "Red's Big Breakfast" I always pick the blueberry pancake and recommend it! You won't regret your choice! :) read more

Lovely diner in Kensington village with nice waitresses. I ordered the blueberry, basil and goat cheese French toast while my bf ordered the regular French toast. The hot chocolate and mocha was nice! I liked his better as mine was too sweet, I could not taste the French toast since it was doused in balsamic sauce and blueberry. I also did not like how brown the edges were, it appeared to be burnt as it had that burnt flavor so I cut off the edges before eating. Will try something else on the menu next time, I don't think I will order French toast again. read more

Went to this place for brunch on a Sunday. That was a BAD idea! We were waiting for over 30 mins. We were on waiting list from Yelp and were supposed to be admitted between 10:50 and 11:05. However, we only got the table at 11:30. I thought I was going to be late because I had trouble finding parking, but when I got there, I still had to wait for a while, which means my friends were waiting for even longer. 2 Eggs your way with bacon or breakfast sausage $15.95. I don't think it's very complicated to prepare to eggs and then either add bacon or a breakfast sausage. I feel the food is a little pricey and nothing extraordinary. Not recommended to go for brunch on a weekend unless you want to wait for a long time. read more

A pretty decent place for brunch! Very convenient as it is located in the heart of Kensington and close enough to walk to from the train station. I usually come here on the odd weekday that I have off to catch up with friends and haven't had to wait, but for the weekend you can use the NoWait app to your advantage. The service here is attentive and friendly. I've had the Inglewood Omelette before and while the ingredients were very tasty the egg tasted overcooked. I've had better luck with the Pacific Benny ($18.95). The price is close to other brunch places. I've heard many good things about the Kensington Benny (spinach, goat cheese, sundried tomato pesto). I would have liked to see a bit more fruit on the plate as there were lots of potatoes! read more

This was a very good excursion. The salmon Benedict was perfectly prepared and even the potatoes were on point. The pancake wasn't the best pancake I've ever had, but it was very good and I'd gladly order again. I also tried the French toast. Very unpleasant experience. Don't bother joining the wait list through yelp or just generally being a considerate person. We did, waited for our place in line and checked in by the specified time. We requested to sit on the patio, and when we got to the restaurant the hostess told us the spot had just opened up and they were clearing the table for us. Before she could come back and seat us, they let two people sitting at the bar just walk out and take the table. We were told we'd have to wait at the bar for another table to open up for an unspecified wait time. Saturday afternoon at 1:30pm, we were greeted as soon as we entered by a very friendly guy who seated us by the window. The waitresses are full of smiles and helpful tips on the menu items. I had a tasty specialty latte with almond milk and blueberry basil goat cheese French toast. Hubby had Red's Original brekky with eggs, toast, sausage and hash browns. Generous portions and constant coffee refills through attentive service and a relaxed atmosphere made this a great experience. We will be back for dinner as the burgers sound fantastic with a half pound of sirloin and a variety of toppings to choose from...I'm so happy that Kensington is growing and taking hold of its identity with places like this one! read more

Just to get it out of the way since you all know my animosity towards long queues for brunch: even though this place has the "NoWait" app, YOU STILL HAVE TO WAIT. Instead of the 30 mins (from when we put ourselves on the wait list), we shuffled awkwardly side to side at the entrance for 15 mins until we got seated. I'll take that as a win. I'm kinda of surprised at how spacious this venue is. Bright natural light shines in from the big surrounding windows and there's ample distances between the tables so you can comfortably converse yet still food stalk. I got a tad overly excited that I was able to have my morning tea in a periodic table mug (yes, I am a science nerd lol). Looking for something savoury yet sweet, I went with the Crepes la Quebecoise: bacon, apple and brie cheese. I was expecting cut up chunks of fresh apple, but it was more of a poached apple pie filling which was even better! Service was pretty adequate considering it was prime brunch time, and prices are what you'd expect for Kensington ($15-$20ish/entree). I wouldn't be opposed to checking Red's out again, obviously wait time permitting :) read more

I just went with my two friends for a birthday brunch meal and the free coffee is super great! some of the staff were super nice which made everything so much better but their soup was one of the best i've had lately i got the roasted red pepper and lentil and a salad with my friends getting omlettes and french toast. the french toast wasn't filling and felt a tad overpriced compared to the omelette plate being the same price but the hash browns i got to try we're great. plus i had a house salad and it was super fresh and deliciously refreshing!! i love being in kensington so i'll definitely be back. read more

Love the vibe of this place. But to be honest what brings me back here is the KENSINGTON BENNY. The sundried tomato pesto and homemade hollandaise is finger licking delicious! And to add to the goodness you have goats cheese. Being a dessert person, we always order the Blueberry, basil and goats cheese stuffed French toast which is served with a balsamic drizzle and blueberry coulee. This dish is the best of both worlds, a wonderful combination of sweet and salty. The goats cheese compliments the berries so well and the balsamic drizzle makes it even more divine. Was very excited to try a new breakfast joint. The food was delicious. We had the 54Ave benny, coffee and tea. The atmosphere is great! Only downside is that the place is extremely loud. I wish I could give this place zero stars.. My boyfriend and his mom wanted to take my mom and I out for brunch. The location is good, the look of the diner itself was nice to look at. But omg the food was absolutely disgusting. It's been three hours since I ate and my stomach has NOT stopped turning, I've been trying to throw up because I cannot stand this food being inside of me. I feel like it's burning a whole through my stomach We got Reds big breakfast. First off, there was no seasoning whatsoever. The eggs tasted weird, the "hash browns" were like half mashed and burnt. And the beef sausages were the worst part. I watched as my mom was too embarrassed to spit her chewed up piece of sausage, forced herself to swallow it and chugged her coffee to down it. It also came with hash brown. - Kensington Benny - different take on eggs benny - soft poached eggs on top of spinach and English muffin. The muffin was slightly tough to cut through. The hollandaise sauce has pesto. Different but tasty. The sprinkle of balsamic vinegar on my Kensignton Benny tasted good. Also came with hash brown - I liked the hash brown but found the burnt bits a bit tough to eat through. Coffee was quite dark and I needed more Stevia to sweeten the coffee. Wait service was good.
