We were at the hotel and we wanted a place that is close with great food and we decided to go there! I absolutely loved the decoration and interior design. The jazz music was great add to the atmosphere! The staff were all awesome. They took us to the patio with a great view of downtown. The food and drinks were all amazing and we absolutely loved our experience there. This is definitely going to be a spot for us for our special occasions and I highly recommend this amazing restaurant! We made reservations for The Tasting Menu at The Wilde on 27. The whole experience, from when we stepped off the elevator onto the rooftop dining space was incredible. The staff were exceptionally attentive without being overbearing and explained in detail each of the 9 courses that we were having. Each course was exquisite in taste and a work of art to look at. I had a night of layover in Calgary and just decided to have dinner in downtown area. I didn't do any research, kinda just google for dinner as the plane landed. Found this restaurant and thought that the menu was interesting, so I decided to give it a try. Upon arrival, I was seated immediately. The server came by and introduced her name and mentioned about the availability of oysters. I ordered the oysters and saw the tasting menu which I asked about; I learned that the tasting menu was by reservation only, but she offered to ask the chef to see if the kitchen can make that happen since I am just one person. She came back and said there was no problem, so I went with the tasting menu. As each dish is being served, the server would describe and explain what each dish is... forgive me that my memory could not remember what the ingredients each dish they described. Each dish has a very unique flavor; the scallop and fish were cooked perfectly, the bison was super tender... Think it was about the third dish, the chef personally ran the food to my table and introduced himself. All the food tastes very wonderful with appealing presentation. For service, aside from having the knowledge about each dish, they take care of the table to another level. For example, after about every 2 dishes, my fork and knife would be replaced with table wiping all clean before continuing food serving. They would continue to check on me about the pace of food serving, and how each dish tastes. As I took a sip of the water below half of the glass, they would come forward and refill my water. At the end of the meal, the manager on duty came up and introduced himself; and we chatted for a bit. Had high expectations for this dinner. Sadly, they were not met. For a $1,000 meal, I did not expect burnt fish, inconsistently cooked meat, no tap water, inexperienced and forgetful service. We left disappointed. Still looking for that Michelin level restaurant in YYC... Right away the meal service began on a weak note. The sommelier, Jason, was conspicuously surly when he came to our table. Even my kids noticed it. After that I returned the surliness with single word replies and decided not to deal with him beyond that. I got the sense he didn't have a lot of experience at this level of dining - got more the Keg vibe / experience from him. Our server gave us wrong information from the beginning re POET happy hour drinks - hey, it happens. No biggie. Unfortunately, the cycle of errors and forgetfulness continued throughout the evening. At a lower price point, you would ignore this service. But the Wilde sells themselves as a higher end restaurant (and with prices to match). That's fine. But they need to execute. They did not. Re the food - Inconsistent is the most apt description. The scallops course was too salty but the pork dish was bland and required more seasoning. The fish dish was burnt black - see the attached picture. The beef on 1 plate was cooked to a different level to the beef on another plate (this is the same course) - see the picture (I have placed the beef from the different plates side by side for comparison). How this food was allowed out of the kitchen shocked me. Jason and the server did not seem to care. Not even sure they understood the issues. The dessert course was plated a la 1980 - giant plate with a tiny dessert that seemed out of place. Where do get these chefs?? At the end of the meal, we had finished our bottled water and we did not want to get another bottle. We asked for tap water. Our server informed us the restaurant did not serve tap water due to the ongoing water restrictions. Huh? I get that some nicer restaurants may not want to serve tap water but don't blame it on the City. Cowardly and stupid. Here's an interesting point - they changed their tasting menu courses online but did not update their increased cost for that menu. Either dodgy practice or no attention to detail. Which is worse... I am in the process of writing to various culinary publications / platforms so they are aware of the poor experience I encountered at Wilde on 27. If Michelin every comes to YYC, there is no way they should even be considered for a Bib Gourmand let alone a coveted star. At least until they make some substantive changes both front of house and in the kitchen. read more

The Wilde Rooftop is an upscale bar at the top of The Dorian Hotel downtown. The cocktail menu is imaginative and it's hard to choose which drink to try (I tried A Trip to Banff, and it was excellent). There are beer, wine and spirit choices too. Seating is comfortable and the vibe is relaxing. Service is friendly and attentive. Great spot for an after dinner, after work or night out drink with friends drink. read more

Went for supper & even with a reservation we waited half an hour for service. The place was pretty empty so this was unacceptable!! Finally got our food & I had to return the duck because it was very chewy! The server went to the chef & his response was, "it's the way I'm cutting it"!! What?!!! Unbelievable! For $55 this meat is supposed to melt in your mouth! Then at 10:30, the manger started flushing the lights I suppose to hint we should leave & have the excuse that she doesn't know how to work the lights!! I guess after being open for 17 days she still hasn't figured it out?! I will give this place one more try before I completely rule it out. The view is gorgeous though! read more

Our group of friends loved our dining experience! We enjoyed the halibut, bison, beef and vegetarian entrees. My entree, the Haida Gwaii halibut, was absolutely delicious. The halibut was perfectly prepared, the presentation was marvelous and mix of flavors was spectacular. The entire staff were extremely friendly, particularly Mita and Elaine who made us feel like family. We greatly enjoyed the sweeping view of Calgary. Our dessert options, the Modern and the Classic, were beautifully presented and thoroughly enjoyed by the table. A surprise visit from the chef made the evening! I'm from San Francisco and we're pretty blessed with our food choices, but this meal absolutely would shine there as well. Definitely try out this new gem! read more

This is a brand new restaurant and one of the best in Calgary... If you are into delicious delicious mouthwatering fancy food that looks like artwork on your plate I highly highly recommend it. Let's start by saying the food was excellent. The service however for a fine dining experience was terrible. It took forever to receive our drinks. This is an absolute faux pas as it sets the tone for the entire meal. Very disjointed service overall with second drink order also delayed. My husband actually went to the bar to see what the delay was. The room is quite nice but as more diners arrived, it became very loud. This was a one and done for us. We will not be returning. Wow. This place rocks. Literally swept off our feet with the fabulous dinner feast st The Wilde last night. Started off with a surprise amuse bouche of Alberta's finest beef ala tartare which EVERYBODY loved hands down. Next, a succession of gustatory deliciousness - a delicate scallop-spring peas bowl and a refreshing elk tartare on a crispy lavash cracker (-!: it was never-ending). Of course, I had to get a sevond glass of my BFF drink for the night - The Bosie (apparently named for Oscar Wilde's girlfriend). The entrees were drop dead top caliber plates of perfection which pictures can only try and capture - I had the beef entree with potatoes, others the fall-off the bone bison cooked 12-14 hours ahead, and the Haida Gwaii halibut. Best of all, are the deaserts which rightfullly deserve its own post - ah! what a yummy duo of sweet but not too sweet plates - a fruit plate wrapped ina cloud almond cream and white chocolate, and a wild lavender panna cotta with generous white chocolate sprinkles. You just have to taste it to believe it, but YES IT WAS AWESOMENESS. As a card carrying member of Foodies Anonymous, this restaurant gets top marks!!! I am Sooo Glad We Ate Here! read more
