Dairy Chef has the perfect nostalgic touch. Lots to choose from on the menu and very efficient and fast wait time. I got the Uleman Malt which had fudge and marshmallow fluff. Would have loved to have a little more malt flavor but was still good on a hot day. We also got a burger which was delicious and an Andes mint ice cream sandwich. Family and pet friendly and lots of tables. read more

First time being there and it was as good as everyone says! Staff is friendly and extremely busy lol, bringing out ice cream so much! I had the chicken sandwich and it was really good, cheeseburgers are good, fries are hand cut and very good especially with cheese drizzled over it! The s'mores shake was delicious and the cookie on the cookie sandwich was so good. It's all outside sitting, but I would suggest calling your order in before going otherwise you will have to wait about 30 mins to get your food, ice cream comes out very quick so if you don't want your ice cream first wait to order it and call in an order while sitting there so you don't have to stand in that line! read more

I've heard rave reviews of Dairy Chef for years, and as an Omaha native, I can't believe I haven't tried it sooner! We went on a colder weekend, so the wait wasn't too long but they were still fairly busy despite the colder weather. Regardless, it's worth the wait. Since I hadn't been there before, they helped me decide on the best option based on my likes and preferences. It didn't fail! I got a small vanilla cone with caramel. The sizes are off the charts, they give you so much for your money! This was a small, but I almost wish I would've got a kid size, ha! The ice cream itself was creamy, smooth, and caramel was the perfect addition. They also have butterscotch, which I was told isn't available many places but they have it and it's also fantastic! Go here if you're looking for a local ice cream shop that will give you all the bang for your buck. read more

Dairy Chef has the best soft serve I have ever had in my life. I love getting a chocolate shake with fresh strawberries (my go to) and their food is also amazing! They have great burgers, chicken strips, popcorn chicken, yummy tots, and fries. I have never craved ice cream like I crave Dairy Chef. read more

I feel like everybody has heard of Dairy Chef. Eating here is almost a rite of passage for Nebraskans. My son was playing in a baseball tournament right down the street at Mount Michael, and I had some time to kill before the game started so I thought I'd give it a try when I saw that the line wasn't very big (I drove by the previous day, and the line was wrapped around the parking lot) The menu is pretty extensive - lots of choices for both food and ice cream - including ice cream cookie sandwiches, burgers, fries, tots, shaved beef sandwiches, and much more. I was all set to order a small butterscotch dip cone, but when I got closer I saw they had a new peanut butter shell - and I never pass on peanut butter, so I went with that instead. I was expecting Dairy Queen sizes so I was a little shocked at the size of my cone... it was GIANT. It was delicious though! Next time I'll make sure to just order one, and share it with my husband. The single jalapeño burger came with pepper Jack cheese and jalapeño, and was also pretty big and tasted great. The total for my burger and cone was just over ten dollars, which I thought was extremely reasonable. They do take cards (I wasn't sure about this) so that is nice. There were lots of picnic tables to sit at outside, and once my order was placed my food came out EXTREMELY fast. I'd definitely come back again! read more

This neighborhood gem is THE PLACE! There is a chain ice cream place in town, but you won't find people in line. Dairy Chef has the lines, employees the teens in town (and has for decades), and is inexpensive. Expect a line and be happy if you don't have to wait in it. Dairy Chef will be the most busy on summertime evenings or during Friday football games, but with a newly added second cashier window the line is quicker. If you want a challenge, and want every waiting person to stare, order The Tower. The Tower, at the root, is nothing special as it's just a soft serve cone. BUT it sits a foot above the cone. Any child's (or child at heart's) dream. Any soft serve you order won't be small! Go hungry! read more

Looking for quality soft serve and generous portion sizes? Look no further than Dairy Chef. I was very satisfied with my choice, the peanut butter cup storm with fudge and peanut butter sauce. The ice cream itself was rich and creamy and the portions of peanut butter cup were plentiful. Disclaimer, if you decide to go on the weekend like we did (and perhaps a week day?) there will be a line and wait for your ice cream. read more

If you're ever out in Elkhorn, here is where you stop for lunch! One stop shop for burgers and soft serve ice cream! You will definitely leave with a happy belly! You can't go wrong with a simple cheese burger, but they also have several other options for lunch! Make sure to try a soft serve! They have your classic vanilla, chocolate, swirl, but also has featured flavors like pineapple & raspberry! Parking in their lot is small, but plenty parking in surrounding areas, just be respectful of other businesses and park responsibly. Lines can be long, but their service is efficient and pretty fast with getting your orders at the window and serving your orders! Bathrooms available for customers inside. Also outdoor bench seating available! We will definitely be back! read more

I stopped here twice during a cross country roadtrip and was so glad I did. The ice cream is perfection and a very fair price. A lot of different options to choose from. Kind of reminded me of a local (and better) Dairy Queen. The food was also pretty tasty. The fries in particular stand out in my mind. Next time I'm passing through, I'll make sure to stop here! read more

Dairy Chef in my opinion is the best ice cream in the Omaha area! Absolutely delicious and even though it was insanely busy the service is quick! Hardly any wait! I love their storms. My kids and I were out in west Omaha and wanted to get some lunch on a hot summer day. We got a couple kids hot dog meals and I got a burger and fries. My burger had Jalapeño cream cheese on it no it was amazing! The burger was perfectly done and juicy. The jalapeño cream cheese perfectly accompanied the burger. Be advised this place gets packed. When we ordered food there wasn't a line so we thought we'd get ice cream after. It took about 45 minutes to get our food and the line was so long after we ate we couldn't get ice cream. This place would be 5 stars if it wasn't for the length of time it takes to get food after ordering. With that being said they are clearly doing something right. read more

If you're looking for some of the best ice cream, look no further than Dairy Chef. It's creamy, thick, and the toppings are plentiful. Come early because the lines are wrapped around the the front of the building most nights. Most of those from Elkhorn know about Dairy Chef because it's been a staple in the community for years. However, Something I have never tried until this week is their hot food. I decided to give their burger and onion rings a try since I have loved their ice cream for years. I ordered their Extreme Cheddar burger which as you can imagine has a ton of melted cheddar on it. What I didn't expect was the fried cheese that had spilled off the side included with the burger. It truly was the cheesiest burger I've ever had. But the burger itself also was very flavorful and not very greasy at all. Their onion rings were crispy deliciousness. If you like extra crispy, these are worth a try! Both were such a nice surprise for what I always thought to be just an ice cream shop. I'm actually incapable of passing an ice cream shop without stopping for a cone, so naturally, I had to stop and try out Dairy Chef. It's like a local version of a Dairy Queen! They had soft serve ice cream and various savory snacks and hot food items. I got a vanilla cone with crunch coat and it was honestly identical to Dairy Queen's soft serve, which doesn't really impress me too much. It was good but not the BEST ice cream I've ever had. The atmosphere was nice and I can see why it's a hot spot for locals. The prices were fair and there are plenty of options. I might try it out again, but overall, it was pretty average. read more

My sister saw this place on Facebook being advertised and was dying for some of the ice cream for her birthday - she called to ask and they even had a lactose free flavor every week. So we ventured out there and while we were initially overwhelmed by the crowd - it's funny because the line really wasn't that bad. It seems like this is kind of a local family hang out for the area. The line got long but they opened another window and it went quickly. Our biggest disappointment, was that they were out of the lactose free ice cream. However, the ice cream treats we got were great - if I had one suggestion to make it would be that they figure out the way to mark something when you ask for extra - I had purchased extra hot fudge for one of the hot fudge sundae's and we did not know which had the extra and it did not end up in mine as I hoped, but I learned that the next time we go (and I'm sure we will) I make sure and ask that question if it's not marked. read more

My only feedback is I just wish someone would make vegan vanilla and chocolate soft serve. My lactose intolerance has made that a difficult transition. That being said, their flavor of the week is great and they have gluten free options too. Quick service, inexpensive, and large portions. A family favorite. My son dropped his ice cream once and they remade it, no questions asked. We always have a good time here. It's no frills. Get there early. read more

Dairy Chef - Our last stop before he head home to San Diego! Great Ice Cream!! - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Elkhorn, Nebraska

Great little neighborhood ice cream shack. Like Dairy Queen but better. Their soft serve is creamy and not too sweet. They have about a million toppings and several types of shell that gets poured on the ice cream then hardens. Malts, shakes, "storms" (their version of blizzard), sundaes, it's all good. In the summer there's always a line, which should tell you it's pretty darn good. I've never had any of their savory food but it looks to be pretty standard fare: chicken strips, fries, onion rings, etc. The main issue is the lack of parking. There are only a handful of stalls, and you kind of just have to finagle your way off the road and onto some pavement between the shack and the gas station next door. There is a small inside area to sit, but I don't suggest it. It's is serious disrepair. Old, worn, dirty, just needs an overhaul. read more

First soft serve in awhile and super impressed with this place! Very neighborhood, old school feels coming here. One of the big things they're known for here is the Tower. Imagine a 1 ft high amount of soft serve ice cream. By far the largest single ice cream cone I've ever had. They have a little holder you can keep the ice cream in but if you truly want the real experience you gotta hold it by the small sugar cone bottom portion. For an old school ice cream shop feel definitely recommend this place!! read more

My husband and I absolutely love this place. The price is right and the Ice cream is ever better! It's a simple shack with a lot of flavors. My husband snd I always get a milkshake. I usually get raspberry and pineapple and be strawberry. The line is usually pretty long but don't worry it will go fast. They have food too that we haven't tried but they have a variety. It's what you would expect for a stand variety. We drive 30 minutes from our house to elk horn. Trust me you've got to try it at least once. read more

Came once an it was amazing just left an my burger is fry nothing what I asked for is on it very pregnant an emotional so I'm super disappointed to drive 45 mins for a craving that left me in a horrible mood with no appetite waste of money an they weren't even busy like the first time we went read more

This place has real ice cream for super cheap. Most places just have a thinner ice milk type ice cream, but they make the real stuff here. It's super rich and delicious. Plus, the price you pay here is nothing compared to other places. They have vanilla, chocolate and a special flavor each day, plus mix-ins if you want a sundae or blizzard type treat. I've had the garbage burger, which is really just a regular burger but with an egg on it. Honestly, not my favorite burger. They overcooked it and it needed more seasoning. Plus, there was way too much bun compared to the meat and veggies. Despite the burger not being so good, the ice cream is great and service is quick. I highly recommend coming here and trying it out. read more

Great place for a burger, shake, or ice cream... they give dairy queen a real run for the money, with their offerings similar to what you would get at the DQ but much larger portions. Amazing burger and ice cream. Definitely a place to go in the summer. I'd recommend this place to anyone.
