Went on a Friday mid-afternoon (second time), and there was a line about 20-25 deep (and soon about 20 deep behind me). Moved really quickly, though! There is an option for call-in & pickup. Service is always impeccable and super friendly, here, so big kudos to all the staff. Very much a team effort! Ambiance is whatever's going on outside, since it's an outside walk-up to order place. Sadly, I can't recommend the ice cream cones. I got the vanilla butterscotch dipped waffle cone. The waffle cones have too much a gooey texture and starchy flavor. Ditto for the ice cream--too goopy and the additives negatively affected the flavor and aftertaste of the simple vanilla cone. The butterscotch coating coated the inside of my mouth in a plasticky, unpalatable way. Maybe the storms (the blended shakes) are better--only one of our kids got one, but he slurped his Oreo/chocolate/fudge storm down super fast and said he enjoyed it. The cheese curds and hamburgers are decent, though. I got a simple, just-a-burger with mustard and ketchup. The meat isn't the highest quality (I got a couple small bone pieces), but the flavor and cooking is good. The bun was similarly simple, and good. If you're looking for a beefy sandwich, this isn't a bad stop. Just chew lightly... The breading on the cheese curds is pretty light, so the cheese takes center stage, but it's oddly granular in a somewhat uncomfortable way. They're nicely salty, too. Perfect without any dipping sauce. Both times I got the curds, the fry oil was fresh. Always appreciated. The ambiance is the star at Dairy Chef, both the environs and the staff: 5/5!!! But the ice cream is what I really wanted to enjoy, here, and that misses the mark: 2/5. Overall, 3/5.
My favorite place to stop after a long day at the pool. Their hand cut fries are delicious, but the star of the show is their ice cream. It's smooth and rich, and they have a variety of mix ins you can get in their Storms (their version of a Blizzard). If you pull up and it's busy, don't worry - the line moves fast and the food comes out even faster!
On a hot day, ice cream was the perfect choice to cool off. We had seen reviews of this place and had always wanted to try, though it was a little far from where we live. This place reminds me a lot of Dairy Queen, but a better version, of course. The food was simple, not super sophisticated, but very tasty. We had their Jalapeño burger, chicken nuggets, and fries. Their fries are phenomenal and taking me back to my in-n-out days in LA! Their ice cream soft serves are so creamy and delicious. Highly recommend!
It is called Dairy chef because it sells ice cream products and also grilled beef burger , onion rings , chicken burger , foot long hot dog, Buffalo dots , pork tenderloins and many more . We got the bacon and cheese burger double ( double meat ) , mushrooms and cheese double burger and regular cheese burger with fries. We had. Also gotten one big box of jalapeños with cheese dots . The burger tastes absolutely delicious. It is most inside with tiny slices of cooked onion , pickles , lettuce , melted Swiss cheese , tomatoes and lettuce ! You can add your own ketchup, horseradish or mustard sauce . I have this a 10 . It is amazing of this small local business with so many choices of burgers and fries . Plus all the ice creams . Highway recommended .
Checked out this location on Saturday. It was a very hot day so this place was perfect for ice cream. while there I also tried a cheeseburger combo with onion rings with a strawberry shake and it was very good. The service was fast and the employees were patient while I ordered. This place does get crowded on weekends so plan on standing in longlines outside. I wish there were an inside space to eat because the heat made it hard to enjoy eating outside at the picnic tables. Only two of the tables had umbrellas attached to block the sun and I would recommend they add umbrellas to all of their outside tables. Overall good spot to enjoy some Ice cream or other treats and I will be going back.
Worth the wait and the drive! I live ~20 mins away from here and it is worth it every time. The line can get pretty long but moves at a reasonable pace. For sure do not wait until you are starving to get in line . This is something I always crave this after a long day at the pool. Their storms are a good size at $4.50 for a mini. I never need more than a mini to fill me up! My favorite flavors are s'mores storm and a breakup storm. I normally get a side of their hand cut their fries which are thick and crispy! They have a new patio with umbrellas which is great! A bit more room to hang out while enjoying. Much needed improvement!
There's definitely a reason there's always a line. The ice cream and friendly staff are worth the wait. We love trying the new featured flavors, today they had raspberry and pineapple, (soy free, dairy free) as well as sticking to the traditional cherry dipped cone. Make sure you ask about the sizes because a medium is still mammoth size! There's plenty of picnic tables to sit outside. Can't wait to try the food menu sometime soon! They have cheese curds.
On a super hot day, there is nothing better than ice cream! I just recently moved to the Elkhorn area so I felt like I needed to try Dairy Chef. I've gotten a lot of mixed reviews from friends so I was a little nervous. Their menu is massive!! They have food, drinks, ice cream, and other frozen treats! Went with a family of four and only spent $20 so that was pretty nice and the service was pretty fast too! I got a "Storm" mixer that was amazing. The rest of my family got a kids dish, ice cream sammie, and another storm. Be warned: they give you A LOT of ice cream!!! I will be back soon to hopefully try some more classics!

What's better than ice cream on a blazing hot day? Got to check out this place today and man do they have options!!! So many neat and creative ice cream creations to choose from. I got an ice cream sandwich rolled in M&Ms. And their portion sizes are huge! We got minis and they piled it on! It was great! They also have classic summer food! To top it all off, the place has the neatest vibe with its walk up window and tables/benches outside so you really get the whole summer experience. 10/10 would recommend!
Dairy chef is my "go to" summer spot. I am currently counting down the days until they reopen for the season. Whether you're going for dinner or just a sweet treat, you won't be disappointed. There is always a line (understandably) but workers are always kind, helpful, and efficient. read more

I've been to Dairy Chef a bunch for ice cream but this was my 1st time having their food. Ordered the extreme cheddar burger and it did not disappoint. It came with a crispy edge of cheese around the burger. I got it with everything and I think next time I would ask for it without the mustard, ketchup, and mayo and put it on myself bc it was way too saucy for my taste. The fries were delicious as well! Of course had to end with a chocolate dipped cone. It gets busy here so either come early but the lines always seem to go pretty quickly. read more

It was a very hot day so this place was perfect for ice cream. while there I also tried a cheeseburger combo with onion rings with a strawberry shake and it was very good. For sure do not wait until you are starving to get in line . This is something I always crave this after a long day at the pool. Their storms are a good size at $4.50 for a mini. I never need more than a mini to fill me up! My favorite flavors are s'mores storm and a breakup storm. I normally get a side of their hand cut their fries which are thick and crispy! This place is definitely worth the drive to Elkhorn. I had the pumpkin pie shake, which was so delicious and perfect for a nice fall day. They have a good amount of seating and the food/ice cream service was prompt. I hope to make it back next spring/summer when they open up again. read more

I came here on a random weekday in the middle of the afternoon, hoping to beat the long lines, and I did just that! Ordered the Rancher burger and fries, and a storm for dessert. Food came out faster than the ice cream! Burger was cooked perfectly, and the fries were very good and a huge portion! I wouldn't say its the BEST burger, fries, and ice cream I've ever had (not good enough to wait in LONG lines for) but it was very good, and if I'm in the area during an off time again, I will definitely stop and try more of their menu. read more
Dairy Chef has the perfect nostalgic touch. Lots to choose from on the menu and very efficient and fast wait time. I got the Uleman Malt which had fudge and marshmallow fluff. Would have loved to have a little more malt flavor but was still good on a hot day. We also got a burger which was delicious and an Andes mint ice cream sandwich. Family and pet friendly and lots of tables. read more

I've heard rave reviews of Dairy Chef for years, and as an Omaha native, I can't believe I haven't tried it sooner! We went on a colder weekend, so the wait wasn't too long but they were still fairly busy despite the colder weather. Regardless, it's worth the wait. Since I hadn't been there before, they helped me decide on the best option based on my likes and preferences. It didn't fail! I got a small vanilla cone with caramel. The sizes are off the charts, they give you so much for your money! This was a small, but I almost wish I would've got a kid size, ha! The ice cream itself was creamy, smooth, and caramel was the perfect addition. They also have butterscotch, which I was told isn't available many places but they have it and it's also fantastic! Go here if you're looking for a local ice cream shop that will give you all the bang for your buck. read more
I feel like everybody has heard of Dairy Chef. Eating here is almost a rite of passage for Nebraskans. My son was playing in a baseball tournament right down the street at Mount Michael, and I had some time to kill before the game started so I thought I'd give it a try when I saw that the line wasn't very big (I drove by the previous day, and the line was wrapped around the parking lot) The menu is pretty extensive - lots of choices for both food and ice cream - including ice cream cookie sandwiches, burgers, fries, tots, shaved beef sandwiches, and much more. I was all set to order a small butterscotch dip cone, but when I got closer I saw they had a new peanut butter shell - and I never pass on peanut butter, so I went with that instead. I was expecting Dairy Queen sizes so I was a little shocked at the size of my cone... it was GIANT. It was delicious though! Next time I'll make sure to just order one, and share it with my husband. The single jalapeño burger came with pepper Jack cheese and jalapeño, and was also pretty big and tasted great. The total for my burger and cone was just over ten dollars, which I thought was extremely reasonable. They do take cards (I wasn't sure about this) so that is nice. There were lots of picnic tables to sit at outside, and once my order was placed my food came out EXTREMELY fast. I'd definitely come back again! read more

This neighborhood gem is THE PLACE! There is a chain ice cream place in town, but you won't find people in line. Dairy Chef has the lines, employees the teens in town (and has for decades), and is inexpensive. Expect a line and be happy if you don't have to wait in it. Dairy Chef will be the most busy on summertime evenings or during Friday football games, but with a newly added second cashier window the line is quicker. If you want a challenge, and want every waiting person to stare, order The Tower. The Tower, at the root, is nothing special as it's just a soft serve cone. BUT it sits a foot above the cone. Any child's (or child at heart's) dream. Any soft serve you order won't be small! Go hungry! read more

If you're ever out in Elkhorn, here is where you stop for lunch! One stop shop for burgers and soft serve ice cream! You will definitely leave with a happy belly! You can't go wrong with a simple cheese burger, but they also have several other options for lunch! Make sure to try a soft serve! They have your classic vanilla, chocolate, swirl, but also has featured flavors like pineapple & raspberry! Parking in their lot is small, but plenty parking in surrounding areas, just be respectful of other businesses and park responsibly. Lines can be long, but their service is efficient and pretty fast with getting your orders at the window and serving your orders! Bathrooms available for customers inside. Also outdoor bench seating available! We will definitely be back! read more
Looking for quality soft serve and generous portion sizes? Look no further than Dairy Chef. I was very satisfied with my choice, the peanut butter cup storm with fudge and peanut butter sauce. The ice cream itself was rich and creamy and the portions of peanut butter cup were plentiful. Disclaimer, if you decide to go on the weekend like we did (and perhaps a week day?) there will be a line and wait for your ice cream. read more

Dairy Chef in my opinion is the best ice cream in the Omaha area! Absolutely delicious and even though it was insanely busy the service is quick! Hardly any wait! I love their storms. They put blizzards to shame with the amount of toppings they put in there! The break up storm was so so chocolatey on the best way! read more

If you want to find a walk down memory lane, a slice of Americana and the BEST ice cream in the Midwest. There is always a line to the order window, but the service is always polite and prompt. It is truly a destination stop for anyone regardless of where you're from - visiting Omaha or live here. Family owned and their passion shows in the quality of their food and service. The ice cream is amazing, but their food is a "best kept" secret, great burgers and wraps and more! read more

This is the BEST ice store in the Midwest! We drove 3 hours from Kansas to Omaha and had to make the drive over to Dairy Chef. They have very low prices for the amount of ice cream they provide and the best flavors. Very fast service. They always have a line. But it moves quickly. read more
If you're looking for some of the best ice cream, look no further than Dairy Chef. It's creamy, thick, and the toppings are plentiful. Come early because the lines are wrapped around the the front of the building most nights. Most of those from Elkhorn know about Dairy Chef because it's been a staple in the community for years. However, Something I have never tried until this week is their hot food. I decided to give their burger and onion rings a try since I have loved their ice cream for years. I ordered their Extreme Cheddar burger which as you can imagine has a ton of melted cheddar on it. What I didn't expect was the fried cheese that had spilled off the side included with the burger. It truly was the cheesiest burger I've ever had. But the burger itself also was very flavorful and not very greasy at all. Their onion rings were crispy deliciousness. If you like extra crispy, these are worth a try! Both were such a nice surprise for what I always thought to be just an ice cream shop. Next time you're in Elkhorn, give Dairy Chef a try for more than just ice cream! read more
