I saw their sign for a Black Garlic ramen and thought it would make me feel better. It sure did, that ramen was so full of garlicky goodness that I could feel the germs dying with every swallow haha. Felt yucky yesterday and had a sudden craving for this soup, so I went and again was not disappointed. They have a "happy hour" special of free gyoza from 2:30 to 5 I believe (sorry, should have photographed the sign - see the part where I said I was sick) but I arrived at 2 and wasn't willing to wait. They do have a cool combo special on the back of the menu (not sure if it's new from the last time I went and yes I've attached photos of the menu from the first time but I can't see that small) so I got my soup (udon noodles this time) and gyoza. You can get your choice of soup and one or two sides that range from gyoza to a variety of fried foods. Paired with a Diet Coke, my meal with tip came to about $20, which I thought was very reasonable for the quality and amount of food. I've been here twice now with my sister. The restaurant hasn't been super busy so we're able to be seated and served super quick, which is awesome for my hungry self. We've been served in under 15 minutes with piping hot dishes, I'm not sure how many other sit down restaurants can deliver that quickly. Got the big bowl ramen after being assured that it came with tonkatsu broth...take a look at my photo. Does that look like tonkatsu? Thin, watery broth lacking in depth and flavor. Asked to add black garlic oil, but didn't detect the flavor. So good! I ordered from Uber eats so not sure how the place actually looks on the inside, but I got their spicy beef ramen and that was pretty good! Beef isn't my favorite, I would've rather had chicken but I was still impressed and the spice level was just enough kick! Had lunch here today with my family. Service was friendly and food came out quickly. Was surprised how big the restaurant was, from the outside it didn't seem too large. Although we went during Saturday lunchtime, it wasn't very busy at all which is kind of odd as a felt they should be busier on the weekend. Maybe they are busier at dinner? Second visit to Daiichi. Nice staff and nice decor. Enjoyed the ramen. Had a Tan Tan and the flavors were good. Gyoza was tasty too. Didn't care for the chasiu, it wasn't melt in your mouth tender, and didn't have much flavor. But an even sadder part of the meal was the egg. Either it wasn't cooked that day, or it was over cooked. I really look forward to soft boiled runny ramen eggs. Mine was hard boiled to the point that it had the gray ring around the yolk like Easter eggs someone cooked too long. New Daiichi Ramen spot open! We went around 3PM so we got a free order of gyoza with our full order of ramen. We didn't have any issues finding parking. This spot is roomy compared to the other Daiichi spots I've been to. A lot of tables spaced out. Our server was polite and filled our water constantly and wrapped up our left overs for us. The ramen is full of umami and I can't describe just how good their fried rice is. It's seriously the best I've ever had with the flufflyness of the rice and the right amount of seasoning. I tried this place because I saw it on a social media page that someone had posted how good it was and the picture looked perfect. So I ordered it via a delivery app and it is a very generous amount. I got the beef with noodles. It was deep fried Chow Mein noodles with thickened beef vegetables Chinese style almost. I did like how for takeout the noodles and the gravy were all kept separate because generally the noodles will get soggy even if it was crispy to begin with. I I also ordered the gyoza. The pictures look wonderful. However when I took my first bite I was shocked to find out it was sweet. Now I haven't had every Japanese and Chinese noodle dish but they generally are not sweet. I was trying to wrap my brain thinking what kind of noodles are sweetened and I could not come up with anything. I kept eating hoping that it would get better but it didn't. That sweetness just destroyed the entire meal. Imagine if you were eating a Chinese beef with vegetable stir fry. But it had sugar inside, how freaked out you would be. It was very disturbing as it fit no flavor profile with noodles I am familiar with. It was like the recipe called for half a teaspoon of sugar and they put in one tablespoon of it instead. The sugar overwhelmed everything else and I was just eating sweet gravy. So weird. Very disturbing especially when your taste buds are expecting one thing and to get completely something else. It came with generous portions that I think local eaters who just love big servings would enjoy. The plate that you see was only covered with half the gravy. And just one handful of the deep fried min noodles. I think I have another one and a half meals out of the leftovers. I ordered the gyoza and it's good and I enjoyed that because it wasn't sweet. I honestly don't know if I will really eat the leftovers or throw them away because it's not enjoyable. I hope the rest of their ramen are not sweet because I can't imagine tonkotsu Ramen being sweet it's just abhorrent. This is the fastest I've written a review because I had to put down my disgust as soon as I could. What a disappointment. The beef was kind of stringy and chewy and they should learn the Chinese technique of velveting the meat. However the vegetables was very fresh. And again the picture looks great too bad it doesn't taste as good as it looks. The green onions in the picture are mines that I added. UPDATE. They have all kinds of ramens with diff toppings and also curry, chicken katsu, mochiko chicken, fried calamari etc and they also have side orders and kids menu. To me it's not the best but their service is good, clean atmosphere and it's never too busy when I go granted the times were like not the lunch or dinner rush times lol. I ordered the black garlic ramen and chicken katsu and the ramen was very flavorful and garlicky and you can add more garlic chips that's already on your table with the other condiments. I do wish the noodles were more al dente. The chicken katsu pieces are pretty small but I'm guessing if you get the full size entree plate it's bigger. Daiichi Ramen has another location now open and it's in the New Ku'ono Marketplace in Kahala. Located next to Lanikai Juice, I just happened to stumble upon their Grand Opening. Wouldn't you know it, it's lunch time and I'm craving me some curry!. We decided on takeout instead of eating in, but I did have a look inside and they do have quite a bit of seating. I took advantage of the 15% off flyer locate next to the door before I entered and decided on the Gyoza Curry Rice and my other half not being a big eater the Kids Chicken Katsu. I really enjoyed the Curry which had a little spicy/heat to it and the Gyoza was plump and juicy inside. That plate was Ono and hit the spot, I'm a fan of their curry now. Finally was able to stop in this spot tonight with the boys for dinner. We were automatically greeted upon entering and seated immediately. The hostess and waitress was very attentive and very hospitable. I ordered one of there combination meals which included Shoyu Misu, Fried rice and (4) piece Gyoza. My older one ordered a Shrimp Tempura Ramen and the younger wanted a Miso soup and some Gyoza. The hostess ended up providing us a complimentary side of Katsu, probably because we informed her that he had allergies to eggs and there was egg in the Gyoza. I ordered the tan tan ramen and my friend ordered the set with one choice. It was shoyu udon and mochiko chicken. It didn't take long for the food to arrive. The chicken had about 4 small pieces to it and the udon and ramen seemed to be the same size. My tan tan noodles were cooked perfectly but the char siu was thin and dry. There wasn't much flavor to the broth but it was rather on the saltier side. I guess how I can best describe the flavor as flat. It didn't have depth to it. The udon didn't seem to have much flavor but the chicken looked good. I didn't try my friend's food but she said it was just ok. One of my go-to places for a tasty and affordable meal. Every time we've gone, service has been pretty quick and the bill for 2 people is about $30 plus a tip. So, decent prices, especially since we can usually take home some leftovers for tomorrow's lunch. I always get a set, which is 2 sides and a mini ramen. Fried rice is my go-to side, and the katsu and gyoza are also good choices. As for the ramen, it's light and satisfying, but nothing exceptional. The most recent time, I got the curry udon with mochiko chicken and fried rice as my sides. They give a good portion and a "mini" udon but it is really big for me! My boyfriend and his friends love it when they're hungry. They finally opened a location closer to town! They are located in the new shopping center on Waialae with the new foodland. I love their combos. You get ramen and get to pick 2 sides for 12.75! I got the black garlic ramen, with takoyaki and 4 piece gyoza. Extra charge for the black garlic ramen upgrade. It was well worth it and I left stuffed! My parents loved their dishes as well. I was ono for ramen and have been wanting to try this place. They have done everything right as far as following covid guidelines. In fact they've surpassed it, going over and beyond. I ordered the wakame ramen with miso broth and hubby had the chicken katsu curry. The katsu curry was generously portioned. Rarely does hubby not finish and we went home with leftovers.
