I've been a regular at this Valvoline for over 10 years but yesterday (06-15-24) I am almost sure…read morewas my last visit. I brought in my 2015 Kia Sportage which just recently had a new engine put into it by my local Kia Dealer. I had been to this Valvoline location 2 previous times for oil changes with the same exact vehicle after the replacement engine. To my surprise, the tech that was checking under the hood said that the oil was "Sludgy". That's practically impossible on an a new engine that has 6000 miles with 2 previous oil changes. So I questioned him. He showed me the dipstick that he claimed was sludge. It was not. So I'm trying to figure out why they are doing this. I asked them not to touch the vehicle anymore. After I left, I reached the following conclusions or assumptions: 1- The techs are not properly trained to identify what oil "sludge" is. 2 - Valvoline oil is of unbelievably poor quality and thus sludges up and should no longer be used. Or 3rd (Most likely) they are trying to upsell more expensive oil claiming the vehicle is high mileage (remember - new engine) and they are saying the oil sludgy in an effort to scare me into a more expensive product. Keeping in mind that I told the Valvoline techs that the motor has less than 6,000 miles. I took the vehicle to the dealer and did the oil change there. I asked the service manager to ask the tech working on my car if the oil was indeed sludgy. He basically confirmed what I said before. It's virtually impossible for an engine to have sludgy oil after only 1 year and 6000 miles of service with two previous oil changes. I was lied to in order to sell a more expensive product. To the staff and management at this (and all) Valvoline locations: Guys come on. This is not the way to do business. Please train your staff not to lie to your loyal (10 years) customers. Please give your customers a reason to keep coming back. They likely would have gotten away with upselling me had I not known a thing about how car engines work. In either case, I no longer trust Valvoline. The techs are probably pushed to upsell more expensive products while at the same time lying about the condition of your vehicle in doing so. Little did they know that am very familiar with the mechanics of a vehicle. Buyer beware.

He always is polite, knowledgable, and willing to patiently talk through my vehicle reports/diagnostics with me. He recently went out of his way to find a really economical alternator replacement for me (which isn't easy to find). I've also had other great interactions with the employees here, but I'll note that I usually drop off early in the morning or when I'm not in a rush (because they are often busy and there can be lines). Overall though, lines are a sign of regular customers which is a testament in itself. Also, Pep Boys has been easy and quick on replacing any parts under warranty that I've had issues with. I personally would recommend them.

I have always been a loyal customer to the Pep Boys located at 261 Mclean Blvd, Paterson, NJ 07504 . I have been taking my vehicle for years to this location for oil changes. I never had a bad experience until now. On Thursday 02/27/25 I went in a little after 5pm to get a normal oil change. I waited like usual and was actually very happy on that day. Then, the shift manager by the name of Kenny called me up to the register for some reason. I really thought it was because my car was ready, however that was not the case. He actually stated that something was wrong with my Audi A4. He took me where my car was located. He got inside my car and pointed out that my transmission light was on. I asked what was this all about? Due to the fact that my car did not have this problem before. He stated that he did not know the reason either. Due to this reason my car was not drivable. I had to leave my car at the shop until the next day. I had to call a towing truck so they can take my car to Jack Daniels Audi Paramus - Service. There they analyzed my car and gave me the reason why my car was in this condition. The Tech stated that the car was not drivable because it seems that someone at Pep boys drain out the transmission fluids form my car. Now, I don't know if this was a mistake on their part or was done purposely. I was really upset and called your corporate office and file a complaint. I also have the report from Audi that states this information. Now, Audi is charging me almost $900.00 for this mistake. I do not believe is fair that I have to pay for something that was not my fault. This has put me through hell. I also spoke to the general manager by the name of Frankie and he was very unprofessional. I will never go back to this location ever again. This is very sad that they have to put customers through so much stress. This is also time consuming for me due to the fact that I have a full time job and go to school after that. Unfortunately, if this is not resolved I will take it to a higher level. This was unjustified, and should not happen to anyone. I hope you can help me with this situation and can be resolved in an amicable manner.
