I almost don't want to review Gil's so I can keep them a secret but Gil's is by far the most reliable and genuine auto shop I've been to. My family has been going to Gil's for years. They're super accommodating and James even offered to help me out over a holiday weekend when the shop was closed! I've been having issues with my tire and tried many spots in the area. I've even tried Tire and Wheel Performance on Route 17 and they couldn't find the issue. Gil's found the leak and plugged my tire in a few minutes. *edit/update: I just came back from the Lexus dealership after spending $3000+ because I had to redo the timing belt work done at Gil's after 40k miles, plus some damages that were caused by the improper installation of the parts by Gil's according to the dealership. They tell me that it could have caused catastrophic damage to my engine, and that it was due to the previous mechanic's faulty installation of the camshaft pulley which almost completely came off because it wasn't tightened properly when the timing belt was done. I had paid $2000+ for the timing belt replacement originally at Gil's. Anyway I hope this doesn't happen to you when you go to Gil's Auto repair, but I wouldn't chance it if I were you. read more

The owners are brothers who bought out long gone Gil. So there is no Gil. Tried them after years of nasty and questionable work from a Ho Ho Sunoco guy. These guys are not cheaper. But do good work. All I want is a one time repair n I'm done. Not repeat visits to an incompetent mechanic. So far on my brakes been great. Only issue is expensive full synthetic oil but change every 3000 like cheap stuff. Makes no sense! read more

I have lived in Ridgewood most of my life and used Gil's many years ago.But when my cars needed servicing during the years I would always bring them back to the dealerships and just accepted whatever they claimed was wrong and paid dearly for their repairs.Those days are over! Recently my car had a coolant problem and I decided to go back to Gil's. Not onyl did they give me an accurate estimate but fixed the problem within hours.When they called me to tell me my car was ready, they did not just shove a bill in my face and hustle me out. They showed me what parts had been replaced and why it had to be done! This experience was so new to me, I was almost speechless!!! Hopefully, I will not need any major repairs any time soon. I brought my Vehicle in to gils out of convenience of distance to my job. I spoke to gill and told him what the problem i was having with the Vehicle. It sat there for over a month without being looked at. I had to constantly call and stop in to nudge him to look at it. I was even asked what my top end was ,before it was diagnosed. I also had another issue that I thought was going to be an expensive fix so I was going to hold off on fixing it. It turned out to be a very inexpensive fix so I had it taken care of. What a relief. I took that print out to Gil's and they gave it to me straight, fixing what actually needed work, saving me $1k in fake dealer repairs. You can trust them to do it right and fast. This is a review overdue. I have a couple of vehicles that my new insurance company requires pictures taken but I forgot it till a Friday evening close to 5pm. These guys are the absolute best! I called them for advice when I felt like I was being taken for a ride by my dealer. They took the time to tell me what sounded necessary over the phone. It's a tucked away service and repair shop. You wouldn't find it unless you look for it! Jim and Gary who runs the shop is quick, gets it done, and you can always bring it back to them if you have questions about the service repair. I wasn't to happy with my prior mechanic. My neighbor suggested Gil's Safety Service. I am very happy that I tried Gil's. Both mechanics/owners Gary and Jim are very knowledgable about cars and thorough with their work. I had my brakes done on my SUV there. That evening I received a call from Gary letting me know that the pads were on sale and was not figured into the bill, he credited my credit card the amount.
