Had a good rating on yelp, so thought we would try it. I ordered the local breakfast with spam. My partner ordered a side of French fries. I like my eggs over easy, and not broken because then it is no longer easy, is it? The yolk gets cooked. So one of my eggs was broken. Also the spam was not hot or even freshly cooked. So our family from Seattle loved our first visit so much we visited on the way back to the airport. My sister and I loved the chicken including the Daddy O which included a broasted piece of juicy chicken, and some Honey Garlic and Pepper Chili chicken. A little greasy but delicious and perfect comfort food. The macaroni salad is delicious and the tossed greens have a yummy Asian dressing. The kids loved loved love the pancakes! Like many food spots in Kauai, Daddy O's is very unassuming and unpretentious. Driving by I wouldn't give it a second look. But everyone I asked about fried chicken could not stop recommending this place. Now, to be fair I don't know if broasted chicken qualifies as "fried," I'm not a scientist. But what I do know is that you can hear the crunch when you bite into it across the state. It is unreal, it's perfectly crunchy and yet somehow perfectly moist. I'm not quite sure why this place has so many great reviews. Maybe we just didn't order the right stuff. Got a veggie omelette with hash browns. The omelette was ok, not much flavor and a bit more oily than necessary. The hash brown were awful. Hard, cold, dry and zero flavor. Perhaps it was because we had to go find out own utensils to eat with though, so maybe it was hot when we got it. We also got a side of small pancakes which were pretty good, but quite sweet pancakes on their own without syrup. Last, we got a bowl of chili which was also sweet but overall not terrible. Morning of a busy day on Kauai, and we needed some energy. I had the Ono Omelet ($11.50 at the time of writing) and my friend had the Not So Early Bird ($5.99, available from 7 - 10 a.m.). Time constraints meant we had to do take-out. The restaurant is located in the Rice Shopping Center, which is also home to one of my favorite places in Lihue, Rob's Good Time Grill. There's a good-sized parking lot, and the Kauai bus (70, "Lihue Shuttle") stops in front on Rice Street. Inside was laid-back, local Kauai style. After I paid for our order, my friend noticed a $3 overcharge on the Not So Early Bird. A mistake had been made; if I understand correctly, if you order this outside of the timeframe, the price is higher. Something about the name too. It was a bit confusing. We had ordered during the timeframe. They refunded the money. Like every place, make sure you check your order for completeness and your receipt for correctness. The breakfasts were good. The Ono Omelet was large (three eggs), but I conquered it. The eggs were not prepared in any special way but they didn't skimp on the fillings (Spam, Portuguese sausage, ham, spinach, mushrooms, onion, bell peppers, tomatoes, and cheese) and there was a nice balance to the contents. It can be customized; I'm not a bell pepper fan, so I opted out of them. My friend enjoyed the Not So Early Bird. It's basically a mini breakfast combo of two eggs made to order with choice of bacon, Spam, or Portuguese or link sausage. It was good to have a big hit of protein to get me through the long day. Someday I hope to be able to come back and enjoy other breakfast and lunch items. read more

Wish I could leave a 0 star review honestly... It was my husband and I's first time going to daddy o's. We're locals, lived kauai our whole lives, born and raised and instead of going to tip top we decided to go and finally try daddy o's. When we first got in there was a little bit of a wait which is totally normal so we didn't mind at all. It took about 10 minutes to get seated... again, no problem at all. When we got in we looked through our menus and decided what we wanted after about 5 minutes... we waited about 10 minutes for our order to be taken. We waited another 15 minutes.. still no one. So I took the initiative to go up to the counter and ask the waitress if we could put our orders in. I stood at the counter for a couple minutes before she even acknowledged me, and then gave me attitude and told me she'd be at my table soon. We finally got our order and it was definitely even more disappointing than the service. I got the loco moco and the patty was weird and crunchy... the rice was extremely mushy. My husband got the oxtail. There was about 5 pieces of noodles, only the fatty parts of the oxtail, and maybe half of the bowl was soup. Also the owner made his rounds around the whole entire place, making small talk with customers and offering them their special pie of the day. Not ONCE did he come over to us, it seemed like he purposely avoided us actually. (By the way we're sitting in the middle of everyone in the restaurant) It was extremely disappointing, especially because it was our first time there. We had high hopes with reading previous reviews. Wasn't very pleased with Daddy Os. Although the service was good, the food was below average and it's pretty bad when you get below average breakfast. Take note of the Costco freezer foods, like the waffle boxes they have laying around cause that's what you're a eating... an already prepared frozen waffle straight out the toaster. read more

We had Dinner at most of the 4-5 stars restaurants in Kauai, and then we took a chance on having a very affordable 9- course dinner at Daddy O's restaurant near the airport. Wow, by far the best dinner we had in Kauai. Harry the owner served us and we couldn't believe the quality of the 3 different steaks, lobster, appetizers and the dessert (a Korean shaved ice). We were here 2 days ago with my fellow nurses. We came from Oahu and decided to have a 1 day break with all the craziness that is happening in the hospital so we are so famished and decided to ask around which place serve good food. We waited outside for 30mins and thought why is it taking too long so we ask the Asian lady we talked to and she was like:" You have to wait for your sit! I had the stuffed shrimp Benedict. It was delicious and more than I could finish. A half order would have been perfect. The homemade hollandaise sauce was scrumptious. Woould definitely order it again. Unfortunately our waitress was unattatentive. No water refills or coffee top offs. For the cost of the food, (which I understand these days) service should be better. Because I used to be in food service, I still left a 20% tip. Mainly for the cooks etc..
