Went here with the wife a few days ago, and let me be the first to say, this place ROCKS! I got a delicious gyro and the wife got pastitio. The food tasted as if we were in Greece! The ambiance was also wonderful and the prices were very reasonable. No surprise we went here since it was my wife's turn to pay and she is very cheap. Our waitress was great, very attentive and friendly. She looked to be in her mid 50's and had no wedding ring, which was very concerning. What was wrong with her and how has she not found a nice man to settle down with? After about 5 minutes our concerns have disappeared and we're sure that she hasn't found a husband out of pure bad luck. We will be back here soon the next time it's my wife's turn to pay. read more

I have never eaten food here, although I have gone for cocktails many times before (I used to live just a couple blocks a way, and re-visited the old haunt last night, prompting this review). This is a cocktail-lover's cocktail bar. A little gem in a seeming-dead zone of the outskirts of Somerville, near Medford. Although the drink menu they present seems relatively limited, they will make you basically anything you ask for, and are quick to suggest favorites or try new things with a little prompting. The lighting is a little dark, reminiscent of bars like Drink in South Boston, but it makes for a great late-night date, or a place to stop by after dinner. read more

Daddy Jones is one of my favorite places in Somerville. I've had my birthday here, and the staff are really nice. The Chris's burger with a side of sweet potato feta fries is my favorite order. The sausage sandwich I had was bizarre- the bread all too doughy and the fries were, I don't have other words for it - other than strange. Love Daddy Jones! The cocktails are excellent, and the food is absolutely delicious. The staff is absolutely wonderful, especially Dimitra. My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner at Daddy Jones. We couldn't think of a better place. It feels like an extension of home, and Dimitra was amazing about helping us settle on food for our guests. When everyone was running so late because of traffic (leave it to me to have a rehearsal dinner at 5 on a Friday in the Boston area!), she didn't sweat it at all and made me feel so much better. Pretty confused bar. A couple of times I've been the one bartender has been super moody. Sadly, this place is almost always empty which I think is half their problem because it makes people reluctant to go in. I've dined in before and the service is terrible. They hardly check on tables and I just left cash because they never came back to check on us. They try with the drinks but they are made poorly. For what's it's worth, the few times I've had food it is quite good and I always notice people picking up takeout. For a hipster ish type bar with a roof deck and in a busy spot, it's totally confusing why this place isn't packed every night like a highland kitchen type of bar is. There is something really odd about the equation and I hope they address it soon. Some welcoming bartenders with experience in the industry and area would be a great start. Sincerely want this place to stay in my neighborhood so I hope they do some soul searching soon. read more

Omg definitely do not miss Daddy Jones! We have had quite a few things on the menu (loved them all) but our go-to order is the DJ Dinner Plate with chicken thighs or falafel and the fried zucchini. The dinner plate always has super fresh greens and the chicken thighs are moist and tasty. The falafel is seriously some of the best I've ever had - it's very crispy on the outside but somehow not dry at all and flavorful. The zucchini is crispy with a nice crunch and is great as a starter because it's not too heavy/filling. Also icing on the cake is that you definitely get bang for your buck with drinks here! and finally, they have clearly taken COVID super seriously and I have no hesitations about eating outside here - feels very safe. But yeah seriously can't recommend this place enough!! read more

But I have been here 3 times and my burger has been completely well done every time (even though they make a point to ask you how you want it and then recommend it medium). This most recent time they lost several drink orders and a sandwich order and it took one hour to rectify the missed food order. The server seemed unconcerned and also never brought water for half the table. The flavours and the atmosphere are happening but a lot of other things are not and in a saturated Somerville market that's a problem. read more

I'll echo everyone's sentiment about slow service, however, the staff is always very friendly in my opinion. Came here last night with a friend and was lucky enough to score seats on the patio... one of Boston's hidden gems, this patio is unique because the way they have it set up, it feels like you're in someone's back yard, even though you're really just on the other side of a fence along busy Broadway. Drinks are excellent, and the food is excellent. I've had the pita and roasted red pepper dip several times in the past... still same ol' delicious last night. Also had the gyro-- that was some of the best pork I've had in memorable history. Would highly recommend it!!! Their homemade tzatziki is delicious too... and omg the sweet potato fries w/ honey and feta... delicious, potatoes were perfectly fried... only thing I would have liked was more cheese, otherwise, amazing. read more

I will come here one my own and have an few drinks and sides, and other times my wife, 5 year daughter and and I will come for diner. Tonight i came by , just me and my daughter they were out of ginger ale which is my little girls favorite when we go out, the manger went out of her go across the street and get ginger ale for her, completely on her own. I was going to wait to review Daddy Jones until I'd been a few times, but I feel like I have to combat the one star review left here. As a Magoun Square native, I've been waiting for this place to open for quite some time. Though I was surprised to see how small the space is (looks bigger from the outside), I think it's laid out well. I love the decor and chill atmosphere. Oh and the music is super fun. I came with 4 other people and the staff was very accomodating, letting us smoosh around a table probably intended for two. We ordered several drinks (Grey Hound-yum! Wine cooler-yummier!) and just about everything on the food menu. The food was all AMAZING. I've been dreaming about the phyllo triangles ever since! And don't miss the mac & cheese-so good. Was the service perfect? No. Was it their first night? Yes. Everybody had a smile on their face and apologized when anything was slower than it should have been. We even got some free bread and olive oil since it was kind of slow. I suspect in a week or so they'll have the service glitches ironed out. I'm really glad to see a fun, laid back place like Daddy Jones move into my neighborhood. I can't wait to become a regular. read more

Really disappointed with this place. To start with our server took his time coming over and seemed to have a chip on his shoulder right off the bat. Really weird. Then we had to endure listening to a loud bartender express her opinions to the entire nearly empty place (she thinks it was OK for Adrian Peterson to hit his kids in case you were wondering). The drinks were OK, but nothing special. The food however was not good. Tasted like it had been frozen, just really bland and boring, bordering on being bad. The hamburgers were very good. But I asked for medium rare and there was no pink. Still good though. We'd been done eating with empty glasses for 30 minutes until finally my friend got up and got the waiter. We paid entirely in cash so we could leave as soon as possible. I want to love Daddy Jones. In my opinion, they serve the best burger in the neighborhood. The food is really great, but on every occasion that I have dined there, the service has been mediocre to poor. Last night's experience was the saddest showing yet. Despite calling and asking what the wait was for 2 and being told that there wasn't one, we were told it would be 30 minutes to be seated after the short walk to the restaurant. No big deal, it was a Saturday night. Since we had to wait anyway, we opted to sit on the patio. When it was our turn, the hostess told us the only thing that was currently open was a lower coffee table seat. Having never sat on the patio we reluctantly agreed. I regretted saying yes as soon as we saw the table; not only was it low, but there was only a bench on one side, and it very awkwardly faced the rest of the diners on the patio, making it feel like you were there for some people watching dinner theater. If this seat is ever offered to you, don't take it. The one thing they did right was allow us to move to another table once one freed up. Unfortunately after that the experience really went downhill. No one came to greet us at the awkward table for at least 10 minutes. No water, no offer to take a drink order. When that did happen, it took another long wait to have a beer and a glass of wine delivered, just as we moved to a new table. We ordered spanakopita for satiating our now out of control hunger monsters, and it was dropped off without any utensils or napkins. When we asked for some, it took a good 5 minutes for them to be brought over, despite that the cabinet for these items was right across the patio. I should have just grabbed them myself. The burgers we ordered took what seemed like forever to arrive. At the very least, we got to listen to the saga of the table next to us while we waited; their party of 8 was able to eat all of their meals while one poor guy waited for his lost order to arrive. It came 25 minutes after the party alerted the server that one entree was missing. By the time he got his meal, everyone else had finished. My second drink, which I ordered when my burger was (finally) delivered, came after I had finished my meal. At that point it really didn't want it but it wasn't worth the wait to complain about it. We were seated at the first table around 8, and didn't leave the restaurant until 9:40. We were not at all intending to have a long, drawn out meal. They could have had at least one more party our table if the service hasn't been such a mess. Our server was working the entire patio alone, but seemed to have 0% sense of urgency. I don't think he realized the impact this had on his or Daddy Jones' ability to to make money on a Saturday night. I wish this was a one off experience, but sadly every time I eat at Daddy Jones something like this happens. My take is that they have a combination of an inexperienced and apathetic staff, and they don't really care about what happens in the front of house. If you would like to taste Daddy Jones' delicious fare, I would suggest ordering takeout. read more

My (extended) neighborhood needed a place like this and I'm sorry I haven't been earlier . Getting a seat was easy for a Friday night. Service was great. We were directed to a table as soon as we walked through the door and our server (Christopher from the receipt) was super great about refilling the water glass I was downing. He had good commentary on the drinks my friend and I were debating ordering, and the Old Fashioned with the carrot juice talked up was wonderful. (Who knew? But this is how I will get my intake of carrot juice in the future.) They were even attentive enough to give us extra bread for the mussel sauce, and extra napkins when I took out my stress from my terrible, horrible, no-good, rotten business week on the one provided and it ended up a torn, crumpled up mess on my lap. Food was delicious. Mussels, yum. Pita and dip, also very good. Sweet potato fries are more my friend's deal, but she was very pleased. Also, LADIES, I noticed from my seat that there are hooks on the wall under the bar for your purses. I don't think guys understand this, but this is a huge deal at crowded bars. They cost almost nothing, so good on Daddy Jones for being smart about it. I'm tired of walking into bars that didn't want to spend $15 on stupid hooks. Finally, when one drink took more than, I don't know, 3 minutes to be made, they left it off the bill. Nice job. I'll be back. read more

The patio is great and the food is tasty. With that said the bartending/mixology skills are greatly lacking recently. I really think this place is missing out on maximizing business particularly due to the TERRIBLE quality of the mixed drinks on the patio. I've tried the sangria and the punch. The sangria was watered down and not flavorful, and the punch had zero punch. It was simply a vodka soda. The whole point of a punch is for it to hit you with a blast of fruity flavor, and this hit me with a smack of nail polish remover quality tasting vodka. If this place can improve the drinks of the patio then I'm in. If not I have Greek friends. read more

THIS PLACE IS AWESOME! Without fail this is always one of my stops every time I go out....and most of the time I just stay there the whole night. The music is fun( 90's!), the staff is upbeat and very obviously love to work there and the owner is the sweetest person ever. Not only that, the food is soooooo good. Try the marinated olives, stuffed eggplant or the fried zucchini. You won't be disappointed. Now on to the drinks. I forget what it's called, but my favorite is a drink with apple cider, prosecco and other goodies and it's served in a little bottle. It's like an adult juice box with a hot pink straw. YUM! I love how the place is decorated. It is a space that makes you want to have a great time. With funny signs up on the walls and cool little knick knacks all over. Very welcoming. Boyfriend is moving to Magoun Square and we've been checking out the various local restaurants and bars. Daddy Jones is the gem of the Square. The menu is small, but concise. The Greek influence on traditional dishes is unique and well done. The cocktail menu takes classic concoctions, adds a twist and delivers. And they were totally able to accommodate my gluten allergy without difficulty. And for fun, they add a few games scattered about and The Cosby Show on continuous loop on one of the televisions. Don't worry though, football was playing on the other on the Sunday night we were there. All in all, it was a great meal and I can't wait to come back and try more dishes. read more

This is one of my favorite places in Magoun Square. Somehow they manage to pull off "dim speakeasy", "neighborhood watering hole", and "gastropub" all at the same time. There's Hip-Hop in the speakers, Star Wars posters on the wall, and Greek food on the menu. In the warm seasons, there's an outdoor patio semi-hidden from view for privacy, and there's board games to be had or bingo to be played. Perfect for a first date or a business meeting. It's not trying to be everything to everyone, but it seems to appeal to a cross-section of ages and patrons. The bar in the evening is great; the brunch can be a little slow with service. read more
