This is the first time we are in Italy. The restaurant was huge. We were a large tour group so we were put in a room. We we're immediately served bread and sauce which was good. Then we had a decent salad. My entree was a little sad. The sea bass was decent but the cubed potatoes and vegetables were bland. The entertainment was a lot of fun and the wine was flowing. Where to begin Hmmm.. On a Tour and it includes dinner tonight with the group, so we shuffle off via bus to this little side street where we enter to the atypical look of an Italian tourist trap. Place is huge, loud and based on the number of groups walking in 40 plus in each this looks like a mass-produced meal to get everyone fed in our 2-hour time slot. Wine is on the table to enjoy which was palatable & they filled it with new bottles with no hesitation. Menu is preset with a small salad bland, followed by an Antipasto platter that included Burrata, another cheese (HARD AS A ROCK), Bruschetta tasty, and a soggy zucchini flower. Bread for the table was 2-day old stale bread that they brought bowls of marinara to dip in or you were not eating it. Choices of Entrees were diverse something for everyone. The Rigatoni with pancetta & spicy marinara was same sauce used to kill the 2-day old bread and ice cold. I sent back my veal meatballs Ice cold as the person to my right sent back the seabass also cold. The winner on the table was the Cannelloni. Desert was a hard piece of ricotta cheesecake. Service was brisk and quite good, and the ambiance was 5 stars with singing persons & players doing Italian numbers throughout the night. It is loud not your quiet at home dinner for sure. All and all the food was average at best, but the ambiance was top shelf, and unlimited wine was actually pretty good. They even corked up some bottles for us to take with us since they were already opened. Bottom line would not eat here again, but certainly fit the bill of the Tour. read more

I stumbled upon this gem after trying to get in (the line looked liked a 2 hour wait...) to another highly rated local restaurant on Yelp. So glad I did. The ambiance is perfect for Rome. I wondered whether I found a gem or a tourist trap. The fact there is very little English spoken here confirms the former. House wine? Wonderful. Menu selections? Traditional Italian with plenty of options. Food? I had grilled lamb chops only because they weren't serving my choice of Roman fried lamb chops with a side of an orange based salad. Dessert - tiramisu was solid. My favorite parts of the evening were the restaurant itself - felt a lot like a similar gem (5 Flies) we stumbled on in Amsterdam. Just lovely. The ambience is wonderful. Lots of outdoor seating with twinkle lights and foliage all around. It was truest romantic and a lovely place to be. Parking was difficult, even on the Vespa so good luck trying to find car parking. The food was ok-- it didn't match the excellence of the ambience. Everything needed salt-- a theme we soon discovered in Rome. The portions were quite large. I think if you are eating meat it's a good option. My first night in Roma would not have been nearly as magical or memorable without dining at Da Meo Patacca. Tucked away in Piazza del Mercanti, this taverna set the scene for what I pictured as an ideal, peaceful dinner, away from the rush of the city. Here, I had my first round of authentic Italian cuisine, with the typical antipasto including an array of Italian cheeses, prosciutto, an assortment of vegetables, etcetera. We dined outside in a tent-like room, which was absolutely adorable, clean, and, might I add, ambient. Of course, the staff was kinder than one could ever ask for, and the service was immaculate! Like most places in Italy, the staff is professional and laid back all at once. They do their job, making sure you have everything you need and more, but most cease to hold back on striking up a conversation. I witnessed this for the first time at Da Meo Patacca, as I devoured what I would consider a top-tier meal and danced in my seat to the live music brought in for the night. The menu was fit to serve all sorts of eaters with its plethora of options, and the prices- compared to other establishments I dined at in Rome- were quite reasonable! 5 stars simply isn't enough for this ristorante. I'm visiting Rome for the first time had to have dinner here 40 years after my grandparents. Their menu is framed in my kitchen. It did not disappoint. Pasta dishes we had were good along with the steak and pork with roasted potatoes. Servers were attentive and friendly and the ambiance was fun with live musical entertainment. We stayed at an Air BnB just around the corner from Da Mel Patacca. The pasta was amazing and the service was impeccable. My older daughter had a broken foot, and the staff was overwhelming helpful. We ended up coming back several times throughout the week. The lead waiter remembered us from our previous visit which was a nice touch. Might be the worst place to get pasta in Rome and definitely in Trastevere, where you usually find some of the best restaurants. The staff wore funny clothes, kind of medieval, so it immediately looked like a tourist trap. The Carbonara was really soggy and cooked with a trillion eggs that was close to scrambled. My girlfriend had a bucatini Amatriciana which also had too much sauce on and tasted like a pasta you make at home when your tired from work, when it doesn't turn out that well. In addition the sodas were 4€ each for only 20cl, plus bread for 4€. We were really disappointed and told the waiter who gave us 50% off, thank god. Food was horrendous. By far the worst food I've had in Rome. The artichoke was served half-warm half-refrigerator-cold. The main dish (pasta with porcini mushrooms) literally tasted like it had been cooked in bath water. (This flavor was confirmed by all at the table.). It is not hard to find delicious food here in Rome, but I have been hard-pressed to find anything half as bad. So, food, is definitely one star. This place seems to be a place where tour companies dump large groups. We were here for an after wedding dinner/reception, it was setup by the wedding coordinator, which he was thorough and good and can understand if he doesn't know the group personally til the day of the wedding. There were 11 of us, they were definitely hurrying us as customers, we got there at 7:30pm just at the time they opened. They took our antipasti order & wine order and came back about 20 minutes later. They somewhat threw plates out and we were second guessing our orders and they brought out wrong things and had to take some back after we were insistent we hadn't ordered them, though they were adamant that we did. We also ordered our dinner entrees with our antipasto. When other people in our party asked about certain entrees they seemed to not answer the question and interpret they wanted the item. I get it, language barrier. I will say the meat & cheese antipasti was good. When they entrees were brought out they just sat plates down and when a person would ask "Is this the beef" the servers would say the entree name in Italian and walk off. No real guidance or explanation. We ordered a side vegetable dish and we never got it, we tried to ask about it and again blew us off. I personally understand enough Italian, as a native Spanish speaker, to know when someone is being insulting and rude to people. Which these guys were. There was a musical group that went around table to table offering to play very kitschy songs to everyone. The accordion player was not a very happy looking. We were unimpressed with the food. After some wait we received the menu and decided reluctantly (since we were getting very hungry) what we would order in a possible future reality. It was clearly more expensive than seemed appropriate as we waited and WAITED, and then decided to just leave. Haha. An easy decision. Found the Sette Oche just around the corner - go there! - and didn't give it another thought until this review later in the evening. Help. Tourist trap. Paid for as part of our tour package. Food was about on the level of Olive Garden without the amazing breadsticks and bottomless salad. My pasta maker at home makes better pasta. Seems like it could be good if you order off the menu but not as part as a package with set courses. We had a four course meal: 1) boxed penne and ravioli (cold and tough) 2) salad that group had max of 2 bites of 3) veal?? in an unknown sauce (no flavor and bleeding) with potatoes (all cold) 4) tiramisu...ehhh Wine was by far the worst we have ever had. I will always remember the experience at Da Meo Patacca, because it was easily the worst service I have ever received at a restaurant. It was sad because I had been very excited to dine at the same restaurant my father did when he was in the Navy during the 1960's. We were obviously stereotyped negatively as Americans right away. Instead of being seated in the main dining room, where there was lively music and other guests, we were put alone in a second room. When I asked if we could be seated in the other room, the host who are seating us annoyingly asked "What you dont like this room?!". I said "No of course the other room is more fun." He then angrily grabbed our menus and led us back to the main room. Then for the rest of the night we noticed that he and other servers would laugh at us and point from the kitchen. I could hear them say "...Americanos..." Our new waiter was not friendly at all and barely would talk to us. I noticed halfway through our meal that everyone else in the restaurant had been brought water and we had not been. I asked if we too could have water in our waiter took an extra 30 minutes to bring it, again he was obviously annoyed. The food was okay, but I was now so annoyed that I barely wanted to wanted. When we finally went to pay we had someone else come and deliver the bill. This new gentleman asked if my credit card would go through. It was like he was assuming I did not have enough money to pay. Basically every chance that the restaurant employees had a chance to be rude to us, they were. Now I'm sure there are tourists that dine at the restaurant and are sometimes rude themselves, too loud etc. However this was not us, we were friendly polite and did nothing to encourage such poor service. The food was just okay. Such a shame that this had to be one of our few interactions with the people of Roma. read more

This was part of our tour group. Visually it was everything i pictured an Italian restaurant to look like. Greenery and flowers everywhere but we sat outside. I went to the bathroom and it did not feel the same way with the look inside. Oh and the bathroom is very weird. Its male and female with several stalls and a urinal right outside the door of a stall. So you open the door and a guy is standing there doing his business. The food was very tasty. The wine was dry but thats what it is all over Italy. I like a sweeter wine but you wont find that in Italy. They have live music which gave this place a real old time Italian feel. Da Meo Patacca is right next to the famous Anthony Bourdain Mystery X location (Roma Sparita) and is just as good and much easier to get a seat now a days. The overall food we (myself and my wife) 4 stars, we both had Cacio e Pepe. It was good, I wouldn't feel comfortable saying it was as good as "Location X" but as the sauce thickened up as it cool down it got even better. That being said I would give this Location 5 STARS!!!!! The waiting staff was amazing and spoke several languages, they were attentive and very personal. The staff also put on a romantic comedy show during the evening, I don't want to give it away but suffice to say that even only speaking a few words in Italian, me and my wife were able to understand the show and enjoyed it immensely. It was quite funny and very Intimate/romantic which was a great cap on our dinner. read more

One if the most charming places we saw in Rome. The building alone is reason enough to go here. Original building 1700 restaurant opened 1959. Building is so interesting, full of antiques, and interesting features. We sat outside but it's a must to go inside and take a little tour. I ate here with my strings (violin, viola, cello) group and we had a set meal. everything that was brought to us I and my bff ate every last bite. Even though we were absolutely full. We went to this restaurant on our last night in Rome on the suggestion of a coworker who had lived here for a few years. It is a great place to take the family, with old time Roman costumes and table side musicians. The outdoor seating feels very homey and nice. My 13 year old son said "This is what I thought Italy would be like the whole time." My husband said I should have asked my coworker for advice sooner. My son and husband enjoyed pasta dishes while my husband and I shared the beef filet. I typically prefer a ribeye for flavor, but this was the most flavorful tenderloin I'd ever had. The roasted potatoes were delicious as well. The house red wine, some gelato and torta rounded out our experience. Service was wonderful. We'd definitely come back if in Rome. read more
