Forbes 100 spot! The food was amazing!!!! The best cheese lasagna I've ever had. The serving was huge and yet after I swallowed it all, I did not feel gross! It was truly life changing. Can't eat Stouffers anymore! The location I believe was either a jail back in the day, or at least is was an administrative office for a jail. I think. It had a dungeon feel to it, but a pretty cool one though. The service was great! Very attentive and very easy to communicate with. It is off the main sites path but it's worth it and close enough to walk off the food to get to next major site. If I make it back to this place I'm for sure coming back. read more

We absolutely adored the surprise entrance, cozy atmosphere and wall antiquities- we decided to eat here based on a locals recommendation and reserved ahead. Our table was crowded for the four of us and overall the quarters were tight, we could hear every word of multiple conversations. There were a bunch fruit flies near our table. Food was large portions, the four Roman pasta dishes served everywhere: carbonara, cacio e pepe, amartriciana and gricia. We ordered deep fried eggplant, meatballs, carbonara, and burrata stuffed ravioli. It all seemed over salted, but we'd recommend the artichoke and the burrata stuffed ravioli. In hindsight sight, I think the local recommended the place due to its many "best of" stickers. However, no way can the urban legend that Anthony Bourdain dined here be true! read more

I found this restaurant on google maps. We were lucky enough to get the only available table during lunch. We were seated right away. There were several large parties of 8-18. It seems like a hidden gem known only by the locals. I opted for the Burette with Ricotta and honey. The cheese was creamy and flavorful and worked well on the homemade bread. I thought the cut of meat with Parmesan cheese was excellent, but the steak was a tad chewy. The ravioli with ricotta with basil best I have ever tasted. The flavors are hard to describe, but an orgasmic experience comes to mind. read more

Rude male host, who profiled our family. With an empty restaurant, the host said they didn't have a table "unless we had a reservation" however, since were staying nearby and were looking for a place within walking distance after long days of travel/touring, we thought we'd give it a try. On the first occasion, we stopped in for a table. There were several families were, out front, discussing trying them. None had reservations -we overheard from their conversations. They were seated yet we were told no tables. The second time we tried, a few days later, the place had zero diners and the host said again they had no tables unless we had a reservation. It was 9p local time. Stay away from this place if you visit Rome! Awful. read more

Our family of four (including two teens, 17 & 15) enjoyed a phenomenal dinner at La Gattabuia. There were so many excellent choices so we ordered a variety of dishes to share. Our absolute favorites, which we'd return to Rome solely to enjoy again, were the Ricotta & Honey Bruschetta and the Tiramisu. Along with a bottle of Brunello Di Montalcino, we also ordered the Cheese Plate, Cold Cuts and Warm Focaccia as starters, then had Grandma Lilli's Meatballs, Rigatoni Carbonara, Burrata Ravioli, and Rigatoni with Vaccinara Coa (Oxtail) from the first course options, then Sliced Beef with Colonnade Lard from the grill. For dessert, we shared the Tiramisu and the Pistachio Tiramisu. The Pistachio Tiramisu was interesting but paled in comparison to the Tiramisu. The Tiramisu was very creamy and was not overpowered by coffee at all. My husband can't stand Tiramisu because he hates coffee, but he even loved this amazing dessert. The only plate we unanimously disliked was the Sliced Beef; it was very tough and the Colonnade Lard looked like large pieces of thinly sliced & melted white cheese, only it was a very gross blob of lard fat. The service was excellent and the folks we interacted with were multi-lingual, speaking English easily. The atmosphere was also fantastic - the restaurant offered indoor & outdoor seating. We ate inside, within one of the many rustic-Italian decorated rooms. We will absolutely return and give this place 10/10. read more

After seeing the super high reviews for La Gattabuia on TripAdvisor we decided to come here for dinner. After the meal I am a bit skeptical of the review there since the overall dinner was alright. To set some context I've been to Italy multiple times so I've been accustomed to the food here. We ordered a variety of dishes from the salad to the spaghetti to the beef tripes. First and foremost my favorite part of the meal aka the bread was served last - this was a bit disappointing as it took a while to receive any food and we were sitting without anything to munch on. The flavours were alright some of the dishes were a bit overpowered with cheese. Maybe it's my taste buds but it was too cheesy at times. The service was great though our server was very friendly and tried to accommodate us thoroughly throughout the meal. read more

We were leaving Rome early the next day and I wanted to have cacio de pepe one final time. Our Uber driver recommended this place in Trastevere and we were not disappointed. Unfortunately, it was raining, so we couldn't eat outside, but the ambiance inside was just as wonderful. Our waiter explained our options well and made a good wine recommendation for my daughter as well as a recommendation for a beer for my son. The cacio de pepe was very tasty, but I also wanted to try the tripe, which was also good. I recommend this place. read more

Definitely for the tourists! We ate here our last night in Rome and it was a decent, if forgettable meal. I had my perennial favorite, cacio e pepe and it was respectable. My friend had carbonara - mistake. The version here was fairly slimy and the bacon was pretty fatty/gristly. Everyone agreed that the main dishes were salty. The fagioli beans antipasto was one if the best things we ate on the trip and was far better than the main dishes we tried.The staff was fairly indifferent but I left a bag here by mistake and they had thoughtfully set it aside when I came back (panicked!) 15 minutes later. It's not the greatest spot in the area, but the wine is reasonable and that helps. read more

Interestingly enough I'm very surprised that this restaurant only had 3 stars. The food and wine was incredible. The waiter we had was very informative and we loved the choices on the menu. They had a great wine selection and even the low end selections were fabulous tasting. Dessert was phenomenal. It was a very cozy somewhat rustic feel to the restaurant. We ended up there late and there were quite a bit of patrons still eating there. I highly recommend this restaurant. It was much better than others we ate at in Trastevere. But when you travel you want to try other places, this one is a hidden gem. There weren't many tourists there mostly locals. It has been our favorite restaurant in Italy. read more

A huge waste of time. 15 minutes for the waiter to come to the table. 25 minutes to get water. 45 minutes to get appetizers. 2 hours to get pasta. 2.5 hours for a two course meal. Food was somewhere between mediocre and bad: bruschetta with honey and ricotta was good, eggplant parmigiana appetizer was ok (tasty, but very oily, way too much cheese, I love cheese), pasta (oxtail sauce, cacio e pepe) was about what you'd expect from a crap tourist joint. Honestly, I've almost never seen a restaurant in such a bad state. At the end of the meal, the manager said, "I don't need to ask how it was." And yet he neither apologized nor comped anything. read more

TRUAMATIZING experience. I took one bite out of the food that i had ordered. It tasted absolutely awful. It was a veggie pasta dish with only one kind of vegetable. The noodles were undercooked. i sent the food back to the kitchen. The waiter asked why i wanted to send it back and i said i didnt like it. He didnt ask me if i wanted something else instead. I didnt even try to order something else because that dish completely put me off my appetite. I waited a couple minutes for my friend to finish eating her food which said was mediocre at best. We asked for the check. When it arrived they had charged me for the food I HAD NOT eaten. i told the waiter i would only be paying for the bottle of water that i had drank.THEY THREATENED TO CALL THE POLICE. We found out this place after we left another restaurant right next to La Gattabuia and it was a very smart choose . The taxi driver who suggested the first place thought we are regular Asian tourist so she introduced us the first place ( I Will not tell you the name of this place ) but if you are Japanese and you do not know anything about Pasta then it is fine so we left and leave some tips on the table without ordering anything . We ate here our first night in Rome after a long trip from California, October 2011. The food was excellent and the staff very helpful. No one in our group knew much Italian, but the waiter (I can't remember his name) was very patient and accommodating. We had a mixed green salad with vine ripened tomatoes and several pizzas with different ingredients. The cheese and toppings were fresh and delicious. Very different than the thick gloppy pizza we often get in the U.S. No institutional restaurant supply food here. The price was also very reasonable, about €20 per person. read more

The food was just too oily. Everyone in my party had a different dish, but nobody finished their portion and we all agreed the meal was pretty disappointing compared to other meals we had in Trastevere. read more
