WOW. This place is AMAZING. Family owned and Veteran operated, this place bleeds "Local". I ordered the Jerk Chick Flatbread and Mac N Chz. The flatbread that was packed with Flavor. I wish I would of ordered two. The chicken was juicy and tender. The Mac N Chz was better than any I've ever had before, and I'm from Texas. Will definitely be back! This spot is great. I got the shrimp jerk bowl. The meal is at least two servings. The veggies were sautéed to perfection and the flavor is delicious. Omg, where to begin?! I was really wanting to try the chicken quarter plate (leg/thigh) but they sold out, so I decided on the chicken wing plate. These were some of the most flavorful wings I've had! The flavor is so well-balanced. Just the right amount of sweetness, perfect amount of salt, a little bit of spice, and a bit of tanginess. SO GOOD! They gave me 3 large wings, a generous portion of red beans and rice, and a few good-sized pieces of these sweet, soft, delicious plantains. Everything complimented each other so well. Visited a place in Eagle River called 'Da J3rk Spot'. Very friendly and helpful staff member? at the register. Unfortunately that's as good as it got. We felt the food was expensive for what we ordered and what we received. The food wasn't that good. My chicken sandwich was dry and chewy with too much sauce. I ordered a side of rice & peas? Apparently thats what the menu says now? Anyway it looks and tasted like rice and beans to my wife and myself. Unfortunately they were also dry and tasted old maybe a little burned? Tried the food here and it was really good. Had the Shrimp Pasta and I had to do a little dance as I ate it. It does have a kick to it, which makes it better to me! Food is amazing! The meals are cooked to order so you will never get any cold food unless you take forever to pick it up. Service was great and courteous. Nice to have an option other than Mexican and Asian food. My only gripe is the food is a little costly but then again this is Alaska so everything is expensive. My second time here and WOW - every bite I was Mmmm, mmmm, mmmm'ing. My roommate said it sounded like I was in taste bud heaven! I got the oxtail dinner. The meat was cooked with intense flavor. I usually am not a fan of some gristle, but I literally found myself sucking on the bones it was sooooo good that I didn't mind the gristle at all. It wasn't an overwhelming amount either. It went great with the rice, cabbage and plantain. I also got the jerk chicken salad. Super fresh ingredients, the chicken was seasoned well and then this creamy, mildly spicy dressing to marry all the flavors. This was great with the dinner. For dessert the fried, sweet plantains rock my world. I split everything in 1/2 and will eat the leftovers for lunch tomorrow. This was a HIGHLY SATISFYING experience! First time going. I love when there is beautiful local artwork on display at a local restaurant. It's a we support each other kind of thing. The cashier was very nice, respectful, and very helpful. She let me know how long it takes for food to cook without me asking, and helped me pick out something I would love. We got 2 jerkchknmelts and it was made to perfection. I had one made spicy and it was just enough to still taste all the delicious flavors. I ordered Mac and cheese for my 2YO daughter and it was tad bit spicy but she is trained already in the spicy food field so it was just right for her. Also I have never tasted better plantain chips. First let me say it is hard to find good food in Alaska beyond a hamburger or pizza. We stayed in the Chugiak area for about 10 days and tried the spot three times. I tried three different dishes, jerk chicken, shrimp bowl and the chicken wings. All great! My wife couldn't get past the chicken wings!!! The wings are great, with a choice of sauces but these are the whole wing so order half as many your used to eating. Oh and the cooked plantains and plantain chips are a must try. Great Food I tried here for the first time over the weekend. I am from the Caribbean and I can say the food here is authentic. The jerk was spot on! I got scammed. Set up my birthday dinner here and agreed to 25 percent gratuity. I stayed until the end and made sure everything was paid and they said everything was good to go. I call back to get my deposit back and she said they didn't get the the whole 25% tip. I asked how that could be since we checked out at the end and we were told everything was taken care of. Then she said she would check her paper work for the credit card charges but there is no way they can tell how much cash tip they got because they did not clean out the tip jar previously. Now they don't want to give me my deposit back. I told the owner I didnt think this was right and I was told my deposit would be taken of my food total but since I forgot to request it I should get my money back. She refused. Started talking about how she spent $60 on balloons ( that I didn't ask for) and we received items we didn't pay for, and they removed the service fee for credit card use. I told her i didn't need $60 ballons nor did i ask for them so I shouldnt be charged for them and the service fee was not removed and we paid it everytime we placed an order.. She said regardless she was not giving me my deposit back. she then said she could send me a gift card but I couldn't come back to her store after I used it. Had take out after a friend's recommendation. Oxtail and rice with peas was my favorite. Also tried the jerk chicken, mac and cheese, and plantains. The thigh served for the jerk chicken was on the smaller side and a bit less spiced than expected but delicious. The fried plantains were savory and sweet with great flavor. Had the bread pudding for desert. Great consistency with that cinnamon sweetness expected. We would order all of these items again and try other menu options. Well first I'd like to say that my boyfriend tried this place first and fell in love with their food. We decided to get some again tonight since I haven't tried it, and they said they closed at 7 but still offered to take our order at 7:40, as they still had plenty of food for the day. They put in an order for us and were extremely friendly and accommodating, and even remembered my bf stopping by that week. So far the favorites are the mac and cheese and jerk chicken flatbread but their plantain chips are also amazing and fresh. Seriously, hard to come across a place like this!
