A couple of glitches that the "Wonderful Server" took care of. Salmon entree with fingerling potatoes and spinach was very good, but the Faroe Island Salmon portion was a bit small. Broccoli Rabe was bitter and under cooked. Meatballs and sauce were tasty but served "warm". The Waitress was sweet, caring, attentive......she saved the day. Menu is extensive, prices are friendly. We had our shift Christmas Party at De Capo this evening. We were given the room where the bar is located to have our party. We learned the staff had decorated the room for us which was a really nice touch. The food was excellent including the chicken parm, spaghetti and meatballs, penne alla vodka, Caesar salad, calamari, as well as the cannoli and chocolate mousse cake. The service was excellent. Shout out to Keisha for doing such a wonderful job waiting on a bunch of firefighters and our wives. My family and I spent our Easter lunch this past year at Da Capo. They have a wide selection of food, which is why we chose to come here. Everyone was able to order what they wanted and was more than happy! I ordered the Butternut Squash Soup and the Sea Scallops with Pork Belly and Risotto. Both were delicious! It's a great restaurant when everything goes well. They do seem to increasingly have operational issues, though - on multiple occasions I've ordered for take-out and they've taken twice as long as they said they would to hand over the food (like they said it would take 35 minutes and we waited in the parking lot for an additional 45 minutes to get our meal). They've blamed kitchen issues (a fire, something broke, etc.) each time but it's happened enough times that I am really nervous about ordering from there as I don't feel confident I will get my meal in a remotely timely manner. Might be time for them to think about seriously upgrading their kitchen equipment. read more

Ordered a to go salad last night and was very specific as to what I wanted added to it. I didn't ask what the additional cost was and didn't care. It took quite some time to get and left a 20% tip for the $50 bill but when I got home I noticed 3 of the additional items that I had asked for, and paid for, NOT there at all and there was barely any of the other toppings I requested or that were supposed to be in it. Stopped in for a quick lunch looking for a tasty salad. Well, look no further. Da Capo has a lot of salad options and they a great size to share with two people. After our salad, we had two vegetarian entrees: the special pumpkin ravioli and the eggplant rollatini. Both were delicious. I've come in here twice with a bunch of people, and both times we've left satisfied. The main room is attractive without being fancy. but almost cavernous, which can result in a lot of noise when it's busy. There's a deck outside, facing some pretty plantings, but overall this doesn't strike me as a date place. Better for dinner with friends or a group. The food is usually tasty, and the servings are huge. An "individual" salad (baby greens, beets, goat cheese, walnuts) can be a starter for 3-4 people; the cheese was lovely, but the beets were MIA. The app of "chips" (battered zucchini and eggplant slices with a yummy yogurt dip) could have fed a cocktail party. It was, by the way, a little greasy, a little salty, and completely delicious. I tasted the penne a la vodka, which was cooked properly and nicely sauced, but the pizza is the thing. It's thin-crust but handles toppings well. (The dough is also used to make the addictive rolls, I think. If you don't eat them all, for God's sake, take them home with you.) The beer list is not that interesting, with only three offerings on tap, but the desserts are surprisingly good. The mousse cake and the cheesecake are creamy and flavorful. The servers are friendly and eager to please. When our pizza took a long time coming, we were told apologetically that they were one pizza-maker short for the evening. And four servers delivered dessert and sang "Happy Birthday" to the lucky guy in our party as if they were as pleased as we were. read more

It is with sadness that I write this mostly negative review. We've been to this location about 15+ times in the last few years and have watched a slow, but sure decline on several fronts. Last night was our last visit. The food here is good (for the area) and affordably priced (considering the large portions) - just don't order any alcohol because it is outrageous (last night I ordered a glass of house wine... it was $9 - that's just crazy). My husband has very specific food allergies. At a quality establishment, we have no problems, but at daCapo, the last three times we've had to send things back due to failure of the waitstaff to communicate to the chef. We decided to try one more time and ordered him a cheese-less pizza. We even went to the extreme of saying no parmesan, no romano, no mozzarella... and out came his pizza covered in cheese. It also came about 10 minutes after my meal, making a re-do out of the question. They were nice enough not to charge us, but it is clear they just can't take a specific order. If you order off the menu, no alterations, you're probably going to be fine. The restaurant is always busy and loud, so if you're looking for a romantic night out - don't bother. See ya, daCapo. I was looking forward to a great Italian meal. Instead we got rather bland meatballs, lasagna without flavor and just plain low cost ingredients. I'm a huge fan. The place is very casual and the staff incredibly efficient and kind. It's the best pizza we encountered in the 20 minute radius from us and it's definitely worth a trip. Don't fill up on the delicious home made rolls (served warm) they bring out before your meal. They're amazing. Dipped in olive oil, parmesan and red pepper flakes - perfection. Love their salads but I do ask to go light on the dressing or get it on the side. Also, keep in mind when there is two of you, the salads are HUGE and one is plenty to share. Great outdoor space during high season, too. Their specials are worth considering as once they had ravioli with asiago and pepperoni with scallions, which sounded amazing and came with tomato sauce. I asked for alfredo instead and it was beyond. Sick! Da Capo's prices are very affordable, the portions very generous and the ambiance is great. Their chianti is fabulous, too! read more

This place is under rated on Yelp. We had a great waiter who was very attentive. The Caesar salads were fresh and good sized. I had the gnocchi in gorgonzola cream sauce which was very good. Another meal was the rigatoni which came in a huge portion size and was also delicious. The meals had a lot of flavor and were presented well. I've been to Da Capo several times and have never been disappointed. The atmosphere is warm and inviting - the brick ovens and pizza makers are on full display in the main dining room which is fun to watch while you wait for your food. I've had pizza, pasta and meat entrees here - all have been delicious - with huge portions! Definitely the kind of restaurant you go to and not only get dinner, but lunch for the next day. I highly recommend the 'Chips' appetizer - thinly sliced and fried eggplant and zucchini chips with yogurt dipping sauce. The breading is light and crispy and it's not overly fried or greasy. This place is fabulous! I have been here several times and each time it is a delight. As someone who worked in the hospitality field for several years, and a self-proclaimed foodie in constant search of delectable thin-crust pizza, I love coming here whenever I am in town. The portions are huge, with a family-sized salad large enough to feed a large brood. I have also tried the calamari and zucchini appetizers and loved them both. And the pizza, as I mentioned, is some of the best I have ever had. Not greasy at all, with fresh ingredients and the chewy-crispy crust consistency that can only come out of an authentic brick oven. They also have a stellar wine list and do great coffees and desserts - the latter of which, I have never had to pay for, a really nice touch in my opinion! I can also attest to the warmth of the owner and the staff he hires on any given night. I am always greeted personally, even if there is a line and I am in the middle of it and hard to notice. My husband and I had dinner here tonight. We've always enjoyed the place, but tonight was exceptional. We were celebrating my husband's promotion, and, when the waiter asked us if we wanted a second round of drinks, we said "Why not, we're celebrating!" Our waiter, Erald, was attentive and seemed to genuinely care that we were enjoying ourselves. So much so, that when we finished our entrees, he brought us a complimentary dessert! Had an early dinner here today with my boyfriend on our mini getaway. the service here was amazing, everybody is so nice. The food was really good and very fresh. The best part is that my boyfriend forgot his Ray-Ban glasses on the table and when he was running back from the car to go grab them one of the workers was already on his way out of the door to return them I found that really nice and we really appreciated that. if we're ever back in town we will definitely return for the fresh yummy food and the great service read more

My brothers' and I recently hosted a birthday celebration at Da Capo for our mother with approximately 30 or so guests. We were extremely pleased with the experience all around. The staff made everything so easy for us including...working out the menu details (including the cake), set up on the day of the celebration, how our guests were treated, and the quantity and quality of the food that was served was phenomenal! Yesterday was my first experience at Da Capo and I look forward to returning! Angela, who I believe is the manager, was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and service-oriented. She went above and beyond to accommodate our party of 4 - as did our server, Alyssa B. There were a couple of times when they both needed to exercise some real patience with us and they did so, graciously and with humor. They were also really great about helping me surprise one of my friends with a vegan birthday cake I'd baked and brought from home. I dropped it off early. They sliced it and, following our meal, delivered it to the table, while singing, having placed a candle in the birthday girl's slice. In addition to the great service, we all enjoyed our meals immensely! Everything was delicious, including my vegan pizza, which was the best I've had. The crust, the sauce,. . .delicious! I highly recommend Da Capo. Wow. What an impressive eatery tucked into a grassy nook on the road between Torrington and Litchfield! Da Capo is a friendly, authentic feeling Italian restaurant with a gorgeous patio surrounded by manicured gardens. They boast simple and delicious Italian fare: Huge salads, home made soups and appetizers (you should see the plate of steamed muscles- holy cow!), brick oven pizzas, and hearty, beautiful Italian entrees. They use fresh, local ingredients whenever possible and have an excellent wine list! My friend and i split an amazing salad (big enough for three, by the way) which consisted of field greens, olives, roasted red pepper, artichokes, local, fresh mozzarella, and polenta croutons in a white balsamic vinaigrette. It was absolutely delicious and the portion was HUGE. The croutons were a real treat, crispy on the outside, melt-in-your-mouth tender on the inside. Such a cool concept and the best crouton I have ever had! In addition to the salad, I also had a cup of their pasta fagioli- one of my favorite foods. Let me start by saying that the "cup" was bigger than most "bowls" of soup I have ordered. I cannot imagine how big the soup bowl must be! It was a delicious tomato-based broth chuck full of white beans, carrots, tomato, ditalini, and chunks of panchetta. It was heavenly delicious with a generous sprinkling of Parmesan! We had some wine and a round of iced teas to boot- and the whole bill was less than $25.00. I was shocked at how delicious the food was and how inexpensively priced it was! Had a lovely dinner here with my husband. From start to finish the food and service was great. We started with the Mussels Fra Diavlo and requested the spicy sauce. It might be too spicy for some, but we loved it. The rolls were warm and we sopped up what we could of the sauce. The "individual" salad was more than enough for both my husband and I. I had the Chicken Milanese, with arugula over linguini. Everything was perfect and very flavorful. My husband raved about the thin crust brick oven pizza. There was no room for dessert, but we'll be back. I would definitely recommend Da Capo for a lovely Italian dinner in a casual and comfortable atmosphere that won't break the bank...our bill with a beer and a glass of cabernet was $60. We've eaten here and have gotten take out probably over half a dozen times. A bit pricey for some meals.Had buccatini with meatballs. Meatballs TOTALLY lacked ANY seasoning. It's still Covid 19 time period. I have been ordering from local restaurants to help keep them in business. I placed a De Capo order at 4:45 on Sunday (via Dine in Connecticut). By 6:00- no food. I tried calling Da capo but they would not answer. I called Dine in Connecticut who explained that they having been having "trouble" with De Capo, but would try calling Da capo and get back to me. 6:30 and still no food and Da Capo would still not answer their phone. Dine-in-Connecticut apologized and order was canceled. Bottom line- l would suggest you pass on ordering from Da Capo. If they can't handle the business- don't accept orders. This place has a je ne sais quoi about it. Love love love their food. The environment inside is about family and has an little Italy feel to it. The outside view from the patio area in the back brings you to a whole different world. Seating arrangements are good with wooden chairs, tables and booths. They make really good apple martini hence why, this time, I had no photos and got a little carried away. I had the steak with veggies and mash. I like my steak rare and they cooked it perfectly. My husband safe zoned it and had the chicken parmigiana but wished the pasta was a little bit more al dente. Large portion and family friendly. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Be advised if you never been in the area, coming from route 8, the neighborhood was a little questionable to point that we thought we were going the wrong way. But nope right way indeed. We were so happy with our dinner tonight! I got the carbonara and my boyfriend got the scallops risotto. First off the pasta was awesome the bacon in it wasn't under or over cook. I could have ate boyfriends whole meal because the risotto was cooked perfectly and the scallops were not slimy or chewy, which I often worry about when ordering them. Both cocktails I ordered, the limonada I'm hoping will stay on the summer menu and my night cap drink was an espresso martini that was a glass of fresh breweries espresso and smooth vodka that tasted like they could have distilled it there. The best part about our night was our sweet waitress Keisha, as soon as we walked in and was standing around waiting for our table she offered to put drinks in and luckily enough she was our waitress for the night when we got seated. I have been here many times it's the only half way decent eating establishment near Torrington and I often refer business associated here. Saturday we stopped with a party of 5 after a day long basketball tournament. When we arrived there were a number of open tables including more than 3 large party tables. The hostess said she would check and started to prep for seating us but after a whispered conversation with the manager started ignoring us. While we were waiting the hostesses started bustling along to all the open tables and placed menus at all the large tables. I went to use the restroom and after more than 15 min and several parties being sat (no reservations) the manager approached us and asked if we had a reservation and when I said no he said that they had no room for us. When I asked how long the wait was he literally responded "a very, very long time". So I'm not sure what caused this man to decide that we (an older couple, Mom, 20 something, and a kid in basketball uniform) were not worthy of eating in his "mediocre" "only decent thing in town" establishment but I will never be back. I have eaten in actual fine dining restaurants on many occasions and never been treated like this before. This is not how it works. I will no longer refer any of my business contacts traveling to the area here as a lunch option. read more
