My family and I are new to this area. Since we moved here, we've been trying to find a pizza place that is hopefully close to those in New Haven. The pizza wasn't fully cooked. In this corner is the last Chef Salad I reviewed, hailing from Granby CT, let's hear it for Gio's Brick Oven Pizzeria & Pub. And in the far corner is this week's challenger, hailing from Torrington, CT, let's hear it for Anthony's Restaurant. Anthony's sells their Chef Salad in two sizes -$9.95 and $13.95. We went for the "small" at $9.95.and the word "small" is an understatement. Their small is LOADED with 11 ounces of ham, turkey, roast beef, and provolone. I know it was 11 ounces, because that thick log of deli was so huge, I couldn't believe it, so I weighed it on my food scale. That's more than 2/3 of a pound of stuff, over a big salad of lettuce, cucumber, big tomato slices, shredded carrots, and a full hard boiled egg. Oh, and it comes with two big slices of fresh Italian bread, so the "small" easily gave us two big portions. So how does last week's Gio's salad compare. Well, if this was a boxing match the referee would have stopped the contest. Gio's cost $10.99, didn't include bread, and the serving of cold cuts paled in comparison to what we got at Anthony's. So Anthony's Chef Salad cost less than Gio's and gave us a ton of more stuff. Anthony's is a very cool little family restaurant with seafood, pasta, veal, chicken, and steak entrees, along with grinders, paninis, pizzas, and the salads. If I lived in Torrington, I'd sure be a regular. read more

The food is very good. I love the Chicken Marsala, the appetizers are great. For a Italian restaurant I wish they would carry Pellegrino Sparkling Water. I Used to know the original owner and still see him occasionally as I believe he still cooks there but the new owners you hardly see as I think he hardly comes out of the kitchen. I would say, however that's the only downfall. I think he should come out and meet the guests. The restaurant seating is small. read more

Dined in w/ the wife last weekend. Waiter seemed very inexperienced, but friendly. My wife ordered the chicken parm dinner, I went with a small sausage pizza w/ extra cheese. Meals were good, pizza was excellent, as always. Big problem was the portion size with my wife's chicken parm -- small overall, only one patty, but still tasty. And they charged us $20 for it. Felt a bit ripped-off, but didn't say anything to the waiter at the time. Talked to a co-worker who frequents Anthony's often, he said we must have be given the lunch portion, and we were charged for a dinner. That makes sense, most likely it was the waiter's fault and we just didn't catch it at the time. There was only one other table occupied when we had been there, and we overheard that they had a problem with their order also. Still love their pizza, I won't let one sub-par experience keep me from coming back in the future. read more

We've been coming here for over 30 years. I know Anthony & Cadia retired but they passed down their recipes. Tonight we had our favorite Ciaciorra pizza. Thin, crispy crust! Just as delicious as always. Jason, our server was gracious, as is all the staff. Whether we have pizza or a meal, it's always great! I usually order from North End Two Guys Pizzeria but they dropped the ball game so I was checking around and I realized I never ordered from Anthony's before, and I am glad I did. In their antipasta salad you get huge slices of meat and cheese with lettuce, cucumbers,tomatoes and carrots. Probably the best pizza I have had so far in the Northwest corner of CT. I grew up on New Haven pizza so I'm a bit of a pizza snob.

Under New Ownership. Noooo! Bread is still delicious, but The large pizza shrunk and was actually a medium at best at the same price and was double cut and had very little sauce which gave it little taste. Fries were double fried so we're dried out crispy and burger roll was seasoned with something like "everything spices" like you find on an everything bagel. Was also overcharged a $1 for my cocktail, but after everything else , that wasn't important Waitress had no mask, but other waitress did. I like being served by masked waitresses Vaccine or not. Think all wait staff should be masked. An hour and twenty minutes for a burger and pie and had to bring our own check up. Missing the old Anthony's! read more

Pizza, by it's very nature, is subjective. That said, Anthony's has always been my favorite pie. Thin crust, but with a nice level of char. Dough is stellar, buttery and bubbly along the perimeter. The Ciociara is a highlight - chicken, cherry peppers, tomatoes and pesto (available as a red or white pie). An extensive selection of traditional Italian-American fare rounds out the menu. The interior, while relatively small, is clean and the service consistently on point. Highly recommend, and I dare say, a well-kept secret. read more

we order pizza from there every week, sometimes a few times during the week, we ordered on doordash. half mushroom, pizza arrived all mushroom, this is the 3rd time it has happened, I call Anthony's they say there sending me another pizza. I receive a call 2 mins later saying that the owner needs me to call DoorDash to call the restaurant. I can't get in contact from anyone at DoorDash to make that happen. anthinys said there tablet said my order did say half mushroom but the ticket came out all mushroom. He took back the pizza he was going to give me for the mistake back and told me there was nothing he can do, for a mistake that wasn't made by me. very poor customer service from a owner. sad to say we will not be ordering from Anthony's anymore. read more

This was my second visit to Anthony's and I brought my son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. From the start, it was a great experience. Our waiter, Jason, had a great personality which made the evening more fun. He also was able answer any question we had about the food and drink. We all enjoyed our entrees which were prepared very well. I had pasta with a fra diavolo sauce and it was the best I have ever had. Usually the sauce is either not spicy enough or so spicy you can't taste the sauce. Anthony's sauce was very spicy, which I like, but not so spicy that it killed my taste buds. The sauce was very favorable. The restaurant itself had a very cosy, casual feel. I would definitely recommend it to anyone. read more

I gave this wonderful spot five stars last year because the pizza was just superb, and if there's one thing I know as a 567-year-old born and bred Yorker, it's pizza. Then I saw that some very strange man recently posted some really rude stuff about the pizza, so I had to go back...to discover that, like last year, and the year before, Anthony's pizza was GREAT. Is GREAT. Tomato sauce not sweet; cheese terrific, crust the kind that if, like me, you don't eat it first time in, you can dip what's left of it into olive oil (salt, pepper, oregano). Very disappointed with our experience here last night. We generally enjoy Anthony's, however, the last couple of times we have ordered, it's been awful. Last night, we called at 4:50pm to place a delivery order. The young woman who answered was very rude and kept putting us on hold. The order didn't arrive until 6:30 (almost 2 hours), and when we called to find out the status of the delivery, that same young woman put us on hold and then hung up. The order finally arrived and both of the burgers we ordered were incorrect and undercooked. We called back one final time and were told that the manager is "too busy to come to the phone." It seems like this restaurant doesn't know how to perform correctly at peak hours and they become very flustered. Not sure if we will return. read more

This restaurant looks like an ordinary pizza place, but the Italian dishes taste like something from a high-end Italian restaurant. We've sampled some different and interesting dishes, along with the standards and they are all just delicious. The manager is also the bartender and she makes a strong drink. My husband and I decided to try Anthony's for lunch today and enjoy their outside dining area due to the virus and not feeling too comfortable eating inside just yet. Our waitress was very nice, she Informed us that we were her first table and this was her first waitressing job. My husband ordered the half eggplant parm/ side salad lunch combo and I had the lunch chicken Francese. The salads were crisp and fresh, bread was tasty. My chicken could've been a bit more lemony but it was overall pretty good, I've had better and I've had worse. My husband said the eggplant grinder was ok. While it was a bit humid out, the outdoor area was nice and private. Maybe a couple fans would've been helpful to make the area a bit more breezy but overall it was nice. We probably wouldn't t go out of our way to goto Anthony's again but I am curious to try their pizza since every review says how good it is. read more

How can a place this good that has been around this long have so few reviews? If you can find a better parm grinder or calzone (basically two meals for the price of one) I'd like to hear of it. The pizza here is IMO underrated, or probably just taken for granted. Just don't load it up too much; 3 toppings max or you risk overwhelming the delicate flavor of the sauce or the toasty texture of the crust (slightly chewy center.) Anthony's is a great example of a place where they have the basics down better than anywhere else. Best sauce, best bread! I really like this place. I don't come often as I can't really afford to go out often, both from the pocket standpoint and waistline standpoint, but if I want authentic Italian food, this is where I go. It is worth every single penny. The decor is not much to write home about, but it gets the job done. The food does all the talking. I have loved everything I have had here, including the lasagna, fettuchine alfredo, or just the straight up spaghetti and meatballs. I don't typically review restaurants as I know it's a tough business but I can't let this experience go. We have eaten here before and the food was good but last night it was a nightmare. Our waitress was great when she wasn't being berated by the other one which just added to the experience. The bread was good and our hot antipasto was ok but then all bets where off. My wife ordered the manicotti and it came out cold. The top cheese was brown and crisp like it had been cooked, refrigerated, heated up then cooled down. The cheese was coagulated and cold and the pasta alternated between crunchy and soggy. Needless to say she left most of it, yummy! I had the Zuppa Di Pesce Fra Di avolo which I can't even describe. The fish was ok but the flavor was nothing I have experienced, let's just say not good. My daughter was the smart one, she ordered pasta with olive oil and Italian sausage. The pasta was fine, it's hard to mess that up but do not eat the sausage. It looked bad from the start and she tried to take a bite but the smell stopped her and she put it down. I cut a piece off and smelled it. It was like it had been cooked a week before, refrigerated uncovered then put out in a bowl with some cold sauce. I don't think my dog would eat it and he eats soap. Needless to say we won't be back. read more

Ah yes, another childhood favorite. I'll be fair though. Yes, fair through birthdays, occasional kids trying to dine and dash, gooey cheese... But really. I admit, prices have went up and quality down. But it's still relatively good pizza, which isn't hard to say because Connecticut has so much of it, I should know, I don't live there. It's good fresh and still holds up in reheated leftovers (which is the real test of time). The mussels too. It's just a good, cozy family restaurant where you can grab a booth and enjoy a night out. I am reviewing based solely on picking up pizza for take out. Love it! The crust has just the right char and chew. It's a crust on the thinner side that holds up well. Not soggy! While the toppings are generous, they are applied with a light hand so they don't weigh the pie down. No grease dripping down your arm! We are new to Torrington and have picked up twice and it looks like there is consistency in quality. We look forward to dining in soon and expanding our Anthony's experience. read more
