I'm reluctant posting this as it seems to be a well kept secret. But here it is.........fantastic luncheon spot with small beach club. Reserve chairs and parasol if you intend on staying after lunch. If you come by your own craft, they will send tender to you. Menu is typical regional fare and done to perfection. Acceptable wine selection at very reasonable prices. As best I can tell, this is boat in/out which reduces day-trippers. I must add, this is best for adults. A few here with kids and that seems troublesome. I think a lot of people, myself included, are drawn to this restaurant because of its very exclusive, VIP feel. You'll hear the same story over and over again about how it's impossible to make a reservation by yourself and how you need to find someone who possesses the special phone number to call for you. You then have to take a private boat, which they run to and from Positano, to their remote location, further adding to the uniqueness of the experience. What's more, you get to lounge around at their private beach. It's all a very clever gimmick, and it worked on me. People who tell you this is the freshest fish of their lives are perhaps being biased by what they've heard and read and by the overall very pleasant experience. It must be the freshest seafood if it's impossible to get a reservation, right? Sure, it's fresh, but so is the seafood at literally every decent restaurant on the Amalfi Coast. The food comes from the same sea. Cons included a very salty spaghetti with clams, very small lobsters with practically no meat, very oily food, and mediocre pasta. Oh, and there's also the fact that you are literally stranded until their boat shows up unless you want to pay for a water taxi. My impression was that the lemon was not worth the squeeze. Getting here was a huge ordeal, and our time and money probably could have been better spent elsewhere. read more

Catching a boat ride to this restaurant is a pain in the ass. At the end of the day, it wasn't really that worth it. 1. There is no queue since they pick up in different parts of the dock. Which means you can be in front of the line or the back depending where you stand. 2. If you decide to dine, they will not bring you back before 3:30pm. Anytime before that, you'll likely pay €10 a head to get back from another taxi boat. I think the point is too stay on the beach, which we didn't do. 3. The food isn't THAT great. Fresh seafood. Yes. Cooked well. Yes. Delicious? I mean, it's just fresh seafood with garlic, olive oil and salt. I'm sure we could have found that in many other places. Just a pain in the @ss getting there. read more

This place is a sleeping gem. It is rsvp only, but it becomes a day experience and not just lunch. Their boat picks you up in Positano (no charge) and takes you to their private beach about 15 minutes away. If you make a reservation you also are reserving beach chair for €15 each, this is a must due to the surf and rocks. Lunch is on their covered deck and the food is fantastic. Very fresh and reasonably priced. Lunch for 3 with a bottle of Prosecco and a shard caprese salad was only €100. read more

Hellllo Da Adolfo! I'm coming back for you as swiftly as possible! Making reservations here is pretty much impossible. We called for days, AMEX concierge called for days, nope. It wasn't until we had made it to our hotel in Positano that our wonderful concierge, Paolo, made us reservations. And bless him for doing so!! Best lunch experience and top seafood I've ever had.  1. You arrive by a cute boat with a fish on the front from Positano dock. No other way to arrive.  2. Everyone will be rushing to eat and leave but if you want to relax just let them know you're in no rush.  3. Must get the octopus salad and the grilled Mozzerella on lemon leaves and eat them together, the mussels, if they have the salt and pepper prawns (omg get 2 orders! You've never had such succulent melt in your mouth shrimp). All of the seas food is caught in the Mediterranean that is  right in front of you.  4. Drinks: white peach sangria and the rose both musts.  We def had an amazing lunch. We're there for 2.5 hours and met a couple next to us who had been coming there for years. We all laughed, ate, shared drinks and relaxed; as one should do in Amalfi! Afterwards while waiting on the boat we cooled down by jumping in the Sea! Highlight of the trip! read more

The bartender behaved as if it was an inconvenience to serve the guests or answer any questions. You might order seafood for a main dish but expect an arrogant attitude as a side. If I wanted attitude, I would have gone to France or Germany. Dude was miserable, which is hard to believe with such a beautiful ambiance and view. Can't imagine having that pathetic of an attitude. Best food experience in Positano! My advice is to make a trip to Da Adolfo a day day trip. Go there at about 11 am, put your name on the list, get a sun chair and enjoy the beautiful private beach with cleanest water. When your table is ready, try as many dishes as possible :) Everything is good and fresh!!! MY favorites were octopus salad, mussel soup, bream fish,speghetti pesto with green chili peppers. Just FYI they do not have prices on their menu, but everything I reasonably priced and they will tell you if you ask. After your have lunch go back to the beach and enjoy the rest fo the day there, until you are ready for the boat to take you back to Positano's main beach. P.S. I've heard about difficulties getting reservations at this place. I personally called them too and no one ever answers. So you have to be creative and adventirous if you really want to try this place. My advice : boat comes every 30 min or so, get in line, and when the boat comes and they ask you if you have a reservation, confidently say "Yes". Once you get there, go straight to the restaurant, find Sergio ( who is the owner and the tallest guy in there) and put your name on the wait list. I heard so much about this place and absolutely can't get a reservation like everybody said. I was fortunate enough to ask my Airbnb local host happen get us a table. The boat leave from the main marina from 10am. I think it runs every hour or half and an hour. They also check if you have a reservation before they let you on board. Once you get there there's a private beach. Lunch all start at 1pm and 3pm. Boat back to the Positano start again around 3.30pm. So, plan to spend the whole day there. The water there is not as nice or clear as some other beaches. There's a lot of debris in the water. Maybe because of the boat traffic. I've seen so many boats dropping off and pick up guests for lunch. This restaurant is definitely busy. There's no price on the menu. But I can assure you it's not as pricey as mainland. Seafood is fresh and delicious. Probably best seafood I had in two weeks while we were there. Highly recommend Grilled prawn and mussel. read more

When we arrived in Positano looking for a place to chill at the beach, everything was completely FULL! After speaking Englian (English/Italian) someone mentioned if we want a private beach we must go eat at a restaurant. . . the catch?? This restaurant can be accessed by boat only unless you know the mountains of Positano well. Off we go with the Captain in his dingy towards Da Adolfo! The ambiance is very relaxed, servers running around bare foot. I decided to be adventurous and ordered the tuna tartar, when the plate arrived at first I was hesitant, because it was literally raw and flavored with olive oil and seasalt and some cilantro as garnish, but it was DELISH! I think the seafood is literally caught on that beach right before it's served. The seafood tasted so FRESH and Yummers! And if you ordered the Limoncello, be ready becuz that is STRONG! Here's the download: You need a reservation and getting one takes dedication aka calling every day until they pick up. Put Amex or Chase to work for this one. Getting there is part of the Da Adolfo experience. You wait on the Positano beach dock for your ride an Italian man in a little wooden boat with a red fish on the top. A 5 minutes boat ride later, you arrive to a little rock beach nestled between the cliffs with two restaurants and their beaches. You eat lunch by ordering off a board which consists of the freshest seafood options on the planet. After your meal you lay out on the lounges for the rest of the day and enjoy the sea. One of the easiest five-star reviews I'll ever write. This was one of the best experiences we've had in Italy, both for the food and for the beach. The dish that I can't get out of my mind was the mussels marinara, which were absolutely incredible -- I didn't even like mussels going into this meal, and this was one of my favorite dishes in all of Italy. The spaghetti with clams was great as well, and the mozzarella on the lemon leaf was interesting, but it's the mussels that I'll always remember. We have heard from numerous people to make sure we grab lunch at Da Adolfo. They definitely don't make it easy! You HAVE to call and make a reservation, but you have to be lucky that they answer their phone. We were staying at a hotel in Positano for our honeymoon, so the hotel ended up calling for us and making the reservation. Then you have to wait on the dock where their boat comes and picks you up. They run every 30 minutes and I believe the last boat out is 4:30 or 5pm. It is a well run machine that restaurant. The service was great! An epic and delicious take on the "hole-in-the-wall" concept. Holy excellent. On our first day in Positano, we wanted something super low-key and laid back, we were pretty damn exhausted. I had heard a smattering of enthusiastic buzz surrounding one little restaurant in particular via the internet and a favorite blogger, so I was determined to try and find it. Turns out, a great deal of luck and timing was involved in our successful venture to this idyllic restaurant/beach. We happened to be on the right pier, at just about the right time (11:30am), as the little Da Adolfo boat, with its signature red fish sign, was making its appearance on the horizon. We scrambled to get two seats on board and were whisked away along the Amalfi Coast to what we were sure would be an epic and delicious meal. We were correct. We got a table right away, although reservations are hiiiiiighly recommended, and wandered over to the chalkboard with that day's specials. With some rough translation, we ordered the fresh calamari, mussels, roasted daily fish, and fresh mozzarella grilled on lemon leaves, with the house white wine & peaches to wash everything down. Holy tasty. Everything was so fresh--some of the best seafood we've ever had--and the tomatoes and mozzarella were out of control delicious. There was something so quintessentially Italian about this little place--with the chalkboard, waiters running around yelling at each other, the little kitchen turning out wondrous meals, and the beautiful Mediterranean Sea lapping at the private beach just a few meters away. Yup, that worked just fine for us. Later in our adventures, companions on our boat told us they had been hunting for Da Adolfo too, so we made a date to escort them there again. We had nearly the same dishes, plus linguini with clams and Caprese. The chorus of happy eating noms was as boisterous and enthusiastic as ever. You can't beat this reasonable and delicious option. So this is a great day trip: the boat w the red fish on the mast picks you up at the Positano dock for free, drives you a few coves over to the restaurant, where you enjoy a spectacular long lunch, with apps, salad, pasta and fish or seafood, ending with lemon cello and macchiato. All very reasonably priced. Afterwards, you go lay in the sun in their nice chairs, and swim on the beach, until the boat takes you back. It takes an entire afternoon, which is fabulous. I was excited to get a last minute reservation (which are hard to come by) based on all the hype I've heard about this place. Yes the food was lovely but the rest was very "no frills". The loungers were squished together and in poor shape, no towels were available, the bathrooms were two small portapotties next to the bar and the staff seemed annoyed that we were there. You take a boat ride to get there in the morning and the rides back to Positano don't begin until 4:30pm. Frankly, I felt stranded. I'd recommend stopping by via car or motorbike just for lunch but the full day "beach club" aspect was something I could've done without. read more

If you ever meet someone who says Da Adolfo in Positano isn't the best seafood they've had, they're lying. This place is unreal. As you pull up by boat, they restaurant is unassuming but has a beautiful private beach shared with only one hotel and lounge chairs lined up out front. The day we had lunch here, the lobster pasta was the special and the best lobster I've had. It was cooked in a tomato and garlic sauce rather than butter. The pasta was fresh and complimented the lobster. For appetizers, try the mozzarella grilled on olive leaf, muscles and tuna tartare - all of these dishes were outstanding. As for the pesto pasta, we thought we would give it a taste since it was homemade, but was quite different since it wasn't basil based but instead green pepper. Next time I would probably have to order another seafood dish rather than pesto pasta. As for reservations, this place is tough. We had a concierge call every day for about 2 months before we could get in. They do not answer their phone when they are fully booked (which is all the time). Apparently a few locals and small hotels have the owner's cell number so that is another option or you can take the first boat out at 10am and when you arrive see if anyone cancelled. The food is well worth the hassle of making a reservation! We will definitely be visiting this restaurant again next time we are on the Amalfi Coast! @thesfcouple read more

Had a great meal here probably one of our best meals in Positano. We started with the mozzarella grilled on lemon leafed. I had the mussels (amazing) and my wife had the vongole, we finished with the tiramisu. Some things to note: you must reserve in advance. We did this a week before through the hotel. You need to take a boat there and is all outside. Your packed in pretty good in the Resteraunt and on a small beach with chairs you can rent for 10 Euro each, extra 5 for an umbrella. which is a good idea as it gets hot and shade is limited. Return boats leave approximately every 30-45 min so keep an eye out and get in line as they don't hold a ton of people on each trip. I believe there is also an optional 10 Euro taxi you can take which I did consider as at a certain point I was ready to go. read more

It does not get any more local or any fresher than Da Adolfo. The entire experience is so unique and enjoyable. You take a 7-8 minute ride on a tiny boat with a Red Fish, from Positano. The boat ride consists of bonding with your local driver while enjoying the incredible views of the Amalfi Coast. Once you get there, it's even more secluded than you'd have imagined - which makes it so much better. Our concierge said she hasn't been able to reach them via phone for three months but luckily got us on the waiting list. This was sold to us as a restaurant and beach club. We get there and the beach club was booked. We planned our afternoon there and didn't bring towels, so that was unfortunate. We waited on the beach nearby for check-in. We end up sitting front row, great, but overpriced Rose and basic Italian dishes was not enough to win us over. Sergio and Pepe are great. They have a good thing going but it's a total tourist trap. My party of 3 girls got here at 11AM via the first boat from Positano. Blah blah blah they couldn't find our res that we thought our hotel placed for us but Serge (not the friendliest i must advise) said promptly you didn't reserve, youre now on the waiting list check back in a hour maybe i can got you in at 2-230pm. We decided to wait and wait and wait on the private beach they have which is lovely and was 40£ for 3 chairs and 2 umbrellas. BE PERSISTENT and like us, you'll get in about 4 hours later...maybe! But the food is worth it and the best i've ever had in my entire trip of Amalfi Coast and Naples. That's saying a lot because all the authentic food of Italy is heaven. The owner is a hard ass but he can back it up! His food is delicious, I was about ready to kiss his feet when I was leaving when upon getting there I was ready to fight him and whoever for not being able to find my name on the list. But nonetheless you must come to Da Adolfo and FIGHT your way to a table, it's worth it and was the most memorable visit of my Positano visit. read more

disappointing waste of time. first of all, the only way to get there is by boat. sounds like a scenic ride right? wrong. at the pier tons of people gathered around to get on a tiny boat from the restaurant. I got there half an hour before the scheduled boat pick up and still people shoved infront of me and my family. the boat captain would only let on my mother and sister. when i finally got on, they would not let my father and brother on board. Once we asked them many times to let them on, they proceeded to tell us that another boat would soon arrive to pick them up. this was not the case. while the boat arrive later, it arrived to the other side of that pier so that people who were not waiting. could skip the line and take the place of those patiently waiting for up to hours before them in sweltering heat. eventually, my father and brother gave up on the water way transportation and ate at one of the many other restaurants in Positano. After hearing this my family that was at the restaurant asked to leave and were told that the restaurant boat would no longer take us back to reunite with the rest of our family. Finally, we were told we could pay for a water taxi, or hike the 400 stairs back up to the main road, and then walk 2 miles to our hotel. we left, however, with no regret because of the disgraceful service, and very limited menu containing only a couple of variations of spaghetti. Da Adolfo is one of the best restaurants on the Amalfi Coast. There is so much hype surrounding this restaurant and I feel like most hyped up restaurants never live up to their lofty reputations. Da Adolfo does and anyone who says otherwise is lying/bitter that they didn't get a chance to eat here. My party and I didn't have a reservation but we rented beach chairs at the restaurant's private beach and enjoyed copious amounts of their perfect peach wine. Yeah - it would have been nice to get to the restaurant and sit down and eat instead of waiting on eggshells hoping to snag a seat but enjoying delicious wine on a beautiful beach was an awesome way to spend the morning/afternoon. You can't come here to expect to be part of the staff's family. They are polite but no one is overly warm/friendly especially the owner who has a tough exterior but really, is a nice and accommodating guy. He, and the rest of the staff, are there to work! We loved the food so much that we went back again during our six day trip on the Amalfi Coast and next year, when I return to vacation, I will be eating here again. Nasty people. Don't go. Never had a bad italian experience nor rude people. There were 15 empty beds and when we asked for 5 in a row, they said they needed to separate them 4 and 1. Why? Why was that necessary. Then we had a lunch reservation and on the early side, there was no one seated. They gave us a table in the corner near the bathroom. BEST SEAFOOD I HAVE EVER HAD! Hands down. I have never had better seafood than at Da Adolfo. It can be tough to reserve a table since it is very popular for lunch, but it is definitely worth the shot. The food is as fresh as you can get, with the fish usually being caught on the same day and in limited quantities (first come, first serve pretty much). Da Adolfo has a water taxi that travels back and forth from the restaurant to the dock in Positano. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone that loves seafood. The service, food and view are excellent. It is nice to have a bite to eat, lay out on the beach chairs and go for a swim and then come back for more. read more

You have probably heard of this place before ... Da-A-Don't Go! Me and my lady like many others have heard of this place through social media and the YouTube videos and reviews. Now you can hear a true honest review. The best part was the boat ride there and the view. The food was average, we had much much better food at other places in the area. I am from NYC so I know rude people and unprofessionals so I'm not a sensitive person so believe me when I say that the service at this place is by far the worst I have ever had in my entire life !! They don't care at all!! They know tourists pour in all day and that the name is what brings them. So they act like cold careless people. Everyone ignores you and good luck getting the attention of a waiter which is never in sight they are too busy hanging at the bar talking to the locals. Tourists are almost impossible to get a reservation but I am Italian but played silly and every time a local walked in they were asked when do you want to eat now? , 230,245,545? Anytime they wanted to sit they would be seated. ALSO Very important , the free boat ride is only one way!!!!! Our reservation was for 1200 pm we finished about 100 pm then rushed out and guess what?
